Dead Rising 2 delicately balances wanton destruction with thoughtful objectives. Just about every aspect of this game is entertaining, ensuring that you're having a good time whether you're fighting psychopaths, rescuing survivors, or just trying to find hidden secrets. The weapon-creation system continually rewards you with unique ways to kill your brain-starved foes, but it's the tight structure that provides the main draw. Because you're continually pushed from one objective to the next, you don't have time to dwell on small problems. It would have been nice to be able to put a waypoint on your map, and the driving controls are still horrible, but it's worth putting up with these issues just to experience the brutal joy that is buried within. There are a lot of zombie games out there, but this game proves that killing brain-dead foes can offer more than just mindless fun. Dead Rising 2 is a great sequel to one of the most original open-world games available.

There's no doubt about it, Dead Rising 2 is not only the natural progression from the original, it's a damn fun experience. There are tons to explore and if you want the entire Dead Rising 2 experience, you're sure to enjoy multiple playthroughs. If you're looking for a fun game that you're going to be able to invest a lot of time in, you can't go wrong with Capcom's zombie slashing simulator.

Dead Rising 2 as a whole is a game that’s addictive, frustrating, short, repetitive, and loads of fun when it’s doing everything right. But it’s so unevenly paced that I can’t say that you’re a fool for not buying it. But at the same time I can say you probably won’t regret it. The multiplayer is fun and a nice addition but won’t switch you over from that other multiplayer menagerie of undeath, and the single player game while short, is addictive, and provides enough replay value to justify a purchase. So pick it up if only because it never gets old running through a crowd of zombies wearing a pair of flaming Moose antlers.

After watching an anime that takes place in the United States, you remain in awe. Yeah, the States are their usual westerner selves, but the characters have the reactions, personalities and oriental lines which cause cascades of laughter not unlike the ones Dick Dastardly’s Mutley produces. And if Dead Rising 2 is any example, a mall stands the size of three or four combined stadiums. I don’t really know if this detail is a parable or satire addressed to modern-day consumerism, because frankly I’ve been too busy beheading zombies with gardening tools, toys, garbage bins and improvised rocket launchers to look for a deeper meaning.

Dead Rising 2 comes with a long list of unfortunate problems, but if you're the type to look past those issues and love a good challenge, this game is actually awesome.
Maybe the design for Dead Rising 2 was simply overambitious; I just don’t know how it could have gone so wrong. I can’t recommend this game to anyone unless they’re a fan of the original Dead Rising, or they just love zombie games in general.

It’s far from a classy game, but then it’s a game about punching zombies with nail-covered boxing gloves. Expecting it to be classy would be folly. What it has done, though, is save itself from what might have been a decline into total mindlessness: it’s a serious game, structured and measured as well as freeform and crazed. It’s almost smarter than it has any right to be. Well done, it.
