Gli Hopoo Games saranno anche pochi, ma hanno la rara capacità di rimescolare meccaniche già viste in forme nuove ed esaltanti. Il loro Deadbolt è un progetto molto diverso da Risk of Rain, e la sua mancanza di elementi davvero originali, unita a qualche imprecisione tecnica, gli impedisce di eccellere. Eppure l'elevato livello di sfida e la varietà delle situazioni rendono questo titolo un must per chi tra i giochi indipendenti cerca un'esperienza tattica e appagante. State solo attenti alle coronarie mentre ci giocate.

Deadbolt è un piccolo action game che omaggia e trae ispirazione dalla lunga tradizione di sparatorie al fulmicotone riportate in auge da Hotline Miami. Senza diventare mai un puzzle game ma attraverso un design intelligente lascia il giusto spazio di manovra al giocatore, riuscendo a essere estremamente divertente e quasi mai frustrante. La tensione della sparatoria vale più della sparatoria. Una grande regola del cinema che si sposa alla perfezione anche nei videogiochi, e Deadbolt ne è una dimostrazione lampante, riuscita e ottimamente realizzata.

Between the clever level layouts, exciting gunplay, expressive sprite art and animations, and some chill grooves by composer Chris Christodoulou, I was hooked. By the end of Deadbolt, I wasn't nearly ready to leave. The game felt like it was just starting to become truly great.

Throughout my time with Deadbolt, I may have struggled with certain segments and a few nasty shootouts, but it’s hard for me to pinpoint a time I was actually upset with the game. It achieves that perfect balance of punishment and reward. A game that constantly knocks you down, but it’s just such a blast that it keeps you wanting to get back up and give it another shot.

Εν κατακλείδι, η περίπου τρίωρη ενασχόλησή μας με το Deadbolt έγινε με ευχαρίστηση και απολαύσαμε τον υψηλό βαθμό πρόκλησης, εκτιμώντας παράλληλα την εμφανή προσπάθεια της ολιγομελούς ομάδας ανάπτυξης. Παρόλα αυτά, ο παρωχημένος και αδιάφορος οπτικός τομέας, τόσο τεχνικά όσο και εικαστικά, δεν παύει να οδηγεί σε ένα παιχνίδι ικανό να κρατήσει την προσοχή σας έως το τέλος, όμως το πιθανότερο είναι πως θα το ξεχάσετε μερικές ώρες μετά τον τερματισμό του.
