Gameplay (Benelux) (Sep 27, 2007)
Game Vortex (Nov 11, 2007)
The Cold War might actually be over, but it is well kindled in this game. The look and the animation could use some serious work, specifically the animations. The design came through and showed great care to really cover many aspects of the genre that are lacking in other stealth titles. The game is pretty hard, and they could do some things to make it a little easier, especially on the Normal setting, but I felt that attempting to do so may take away from the game as a whole. Death to Spies currently feels like a very niche end of the genre for those who really enjoy stealth games. I look forward to seeing titles from this team as this is a good move for the genre as a whole.
IGN (Nov 26, 2007)
Even with its quirks, Death to Spies is an entertaining, varied, and highly addictive pastime for those who enjoy exercising their brain as much as their trigger finger. It's intelligently delivered, credibly presented, and anything but easy. We need more solid, thoughtful games from independent sources, and this Russian import capably proves why.
Game Over Online (Nov 20, 2007)
I had a reasonable amount of fun while playing Death to Spies. It’s not a game that I’d normally play (I basically received it by mistake), and I have no idea how derivative it might be of other titles, but I can say that the missions are challenging, you get lots of options for how to play through them, and the 10-mission campaign takes about 20-30 hours to complete, which, all-in-all makes Death to Spies a pretty worthwhile purchase at its $30 suggested retail price.
Game Chronicles (Feb 01, 2008)
While it's not a revolutionary game, Death To Spies delivers a compelling stealth experience and is well worth a try for genre fans. It's great fun to play a WW II shooter on the Eastern Front instead of Normandy. This game invites you to slip behind the Iron Curtain and see if you can survive in the brutal Motherland.
Games Finder (Mar 15, 2014)
If you love stealth and want a difficult but enjoyable game that will test you’re spy skills then Death to Spies: Moment of Truth is worth checking out.
GameZone (Nov 09, 2007)
Visually the game looks pretty good. There is plenty of blood to be spilled which is why it carries a M-17 rating. The sound effects and musical score were nicely done and add realism to the game. The game itself is quite a challenge because though guards are predictable they seem to know something is up. You can tell where there looking and the distance they can see by the helpful mini map.
GamingExcellence (Dec 14, 2007)
In all, Death to Spies would be a pretty good title if it just had a little more to it beyond the standard sneak, eliminate and impersonate formula that’s repeated too often. The mechanics of the game make it decent, but with a few irritating aspects like some non-interactive levels and a map you can’t live with or without, show that it could’ve done a lot better. The poor voice-overs and general blandness of the storyline doesn’t help it either. People who’ve enjoyed titles like Hitman are likely to enjoy this title, but the problem is that Death to Spies could’ve been a lot better, and this fact is just a little too obvious. Nonetheless, the game still manages to play well and provide an average, though not great, experience.
GamesRadar (Oct 26, 2007)
Still, Death to Spies offers a rather refreshing take on war-status games. It's nowhere near the excellence of other established stealth games, but it does offer enough innovation and open-endedness to get enough entertainment out of. And even though there's not much in terms of replay value (no multiplayer), the campaign mode is lengthy enough to satisfy for awhile.

GameSpot (Oct 16, 2007)
Even with some missteps, Haggard Games accomplishes a lot with Death to Spies. Deeply difficult and absolutely remorseless, this game isn't for the faint of heart. But it is definitely worth the struggle, as long as you've got the patience to appreciate such a rigorous design.
PC Action (Germany) (Oct 24, 2007)
Out Of Eight (Nov 07, 2007)
Death to Spies has nice core gameplay, but the game is way too tough for general audiences. This problem is pretty easy to fix: remove some of the grouped enemies. While this would reduce the level of realism that Death to Spies is trying to achieve, it would make the title much more playable. The generally linear level design makes you go down one set path, although you are given a bit of freedom regarding which way to approach the objectives once you are close. I like the ability to customize your loadout before each mission, and the vector map that displays the AI’s concern and sigh ranges is a welcome feature. Sadly, all of the spy-like things you could potentially do during gameplay are severely limited by the high enemy count. Sure, it’s realistic, but that doesn’t mean it’s fun. Still, I think people who are familiar with this genre and really like these kinds of games will have fun with Death to Spies, because they will be able to handle the severe difficulty.
Gaming Nexus (Nov 07, 2007)
All in all, Death to Spies is well done, but it will require the right type of player to truly enjoy it. It has a few quirks (particularly in the user interface) that can drive you nuts, but as I said at the beginning: you were warned. Death comes very easily to spies!
Worth Playing (Apr 12, 2008)
I like the stealth-action genre. Every game mentioned in this review is on my shelf and has been played through and thoroughly enjoyed. I even had high hopes for Death to Spies for bringing a new approach to the well-worn WWII setting. Alas, it fails at everything it sets out to do, and it can't even manage to adequately imitate genre progenitors from nearly a decade before it, let alone do anything to surpass them. Stick to your Assassin's Creed, Hitman, Splinter Cell and Thief, and forget you ever heard of Death to Spies.
GameStar (Germany) (Oct 31, 2007)
Armchair Empire, The (Dec 07, 2007)
The idea of WWII espionage and sabotage efforts on the Eastern Front is ripe with possibilities for a game, but Death to Spies bungled the execution on this one.
