FAST-GROWING CONSUMER MARKET OF "CASUAL GAMERS"
GT Ships in Excess of 500,000 Copies of 3D Sequel to Million-Unit and Top 10 Selling 'Deer Hunter'™ CD ROM

MINNEAPOLIS, October 5, 1998 - In the largest launch ever of a PC game aimed at casual gaming enthusiasts, GT Interactive Software Corp. (NASDAQ: GTIS) today announced its WizardWorks subsidiary has shipped more than 500,000 units of Deer Hunter II™ for the PC. Deer Hunter II is the 3D sequel to Deer Hunter™ which, since its release one year ago, has remained one of the top-ten best-selling PC games in the U.S., generating sales of more than one million units nationwide.

"When we launched Deer Hunter last year we tapped into the vital and growing new market of 'casual gamers'- purchasers of sub-$1,000 PCs who do not traditionally play games, and therefore seek easy-to-learn, moderately priced interactive entertainment," said Ron Chaimowitz, chairman and chief executive officer of GT Interactive. "With over 30 million casual gamers in the U.S., GT Interactive has created a strong, recognizable brand in Deer Hunter II which will enable us to both increase our market share and position ourselves for growth now and in the future."

Deer Hunter II is the newest addition to WizardWorks' Interactive Outdoor Hunting Series, which also includes the top 10 best seller, Rocky Mountain Trophy Hunter™. Other titles in the franchise include: Deer Hunter, Deer Hunter's Extended Season™ (an add-on for Deer Hunter), Deer Hunter Companion™ (a combination strategy guide and add-on for Deer Hunter), Pro Bass Fishing™, Deep Sea Trophy Fishing™, Sporting Clays™ and Bird Hunter Waterfowl Edition™.

"Deer Hunter II brings the PC hunting experience to a whole new level with very realistic 3D graphics, ultra-realistic deer behavior, enhanced weather effects and many powerful new weapons," said Paul Rinde, senior vice president of Product Development and Acquisition at WizardWorks. "We believe Deer Hunter fans will be excited by the challenge this sequel brings to interactive hunting."

Deer Hunter II is endorsed by Wildlife Forever, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit organization dedicated to maintaining America's wildlife heritage. A portion of the sales from this title will be donated to Wildlife Forever.

Priced at $19.99 and developed by Sunstorm Interactive, Deer Hunter II is available nationwide this week.
