If you’re itching for a good fantasy dungeon crawler then Dungeon Siege 3 should be on your list. It’s not a spectacular game that will wow you from start to finish with its new and exciting mechanics and features, but it’s tried, true and quite polished. Not to mention an entertaining and engaging experience that will keep you busy for a while – even longer if you decide to try all four characters and/or go online. The game has its odd issues such as a frustrating camera and a frame rate that likes to go for the occasional dip, but there aren’t any major issues that should keep you away. This siege expedition has been safely planned and reviewed, to reflect that it’s safe for your time and investment.

While we won't be seeing Dungeon Siege III on anyone's “Best of the Year” lists, it's still a well-made hack-and-slash game, and one of the better examples of the genre on this generation of consoles. Good visual design, evocative lighting, as well as satisfying combat and action are brought down a bit by an overabundance of hard-to-manage loot, some tepid voice work, and rather restricted level design. Dungeon Siege III is not the Next Big Thing in action-RPGs, but it does the Old Thing pretty well.

Softpedia (Jun 23, 2011)
There's nothing groundbreaking in Dungeon Siege III, nothing we have not already seen and likely will see again in the role play and the hack and slash space. This does not mean that the game has nothing to offer or that it's not worth playing, just that those who plan on picking it up should adjust their expectations accordingly. The best part of the game is the actual combat, with its mix of frantic action and strategic choices when it comes to special power deployment but it too could have used a little bit of extra depth. The weakest element is the bad camera, which can make even good battles a chore and often leads to unnecessary death. Dungeon Siege III is a video game that will not break into any Best of 2011 charts and will probably also fail to light the sales charts ablaze but the team at Obsidian has worked carefully and managed to create a solid hack and slash experience that could have done much more on the story front and could have benefited from a better port to the PC.

Dungeon Siege III is a nice addition to the Dungeon Siege franchise but it’s definitely not the best in the series.
GameSpy (Jun 20, 2011)
Trite as it is and pointless as Obsidian's slavish adherence to some of the old standby systems (like loot and leveling) seems, I genuinely hope it gets another crack at Dungeon Siege. The series has never been particularly memorable, but at least under Obsidian's guidance, it's mostly fun.

IGN (Jun 21, 2011)
Obsidian Entertainment's take on the Dungeon Siege franchise has some merit. The core combat system is well-designed, offering a small but useful set of abilities for each character class. The varied enemy encounters encourage the frequent use of abilities and the dodge mechanic, which makes the basic gameplay – whittling down the health bars of enemies – satisfying. But the rest of the game mostly falters, unfortunately, to a degree that overshadows its achievements. Dungeon Siege III is a dungeon crawler with a boring loot table, poorly implemented multiplayer, and little lasting incentive to continue running around the world once the tedious story ends.
Reflecting on this experience I must say that I enjoyed my time with Dungeon Siege III. Perhaps this is due to the fact that I had zero expectations going in. The game shines in some aspects, is unpolished in others, and overall evens out to a something that might be mediocre, yet pleasant. Having beaten it I am not at all inclined to think that my time was wasted, I got a fair dose of reasonably good entertainment, and I have nothing to complain about.
Cheat Happens (Jul 04, 2011)
Dungeon Siege III could have been a rebirth for one of gaming's most storied franchises, but instead it's just a frustrating and mildly fun title that merely resembles the games of the past. Dungeon Siege III suffers from problems in pretty much every aspect of its creation, if you're a fan and desperately need more Dungeon Siege, check it out, otherwise beware.
