If you choose to start at one of the bookmarked dates, the game provides a description and suggests some interesting countries to play.

Shows the setup for the American War of Independence.

Western Europa at 1508, showing the monarch and advisor screen.

Military leader screen, with already hired generals, admirals, explorers and conquistadors in the list.

Diplomacy map overlay, selected country in bright green, its allies in green, its royal marriages in turquise and countries it is at war against in red.

Holy Roman Empire map overlay, the emperor in bright green, electors in medium green, and all other provinces belonging to the HRE in dark green.

Religion map overlay. The stripes signify the state religion, if the province religion differs.

Current form of government, national ideas and domestic policy sliders, each giving specific bonuses, and in the case of the sliders: penalties.

Here you decide which form of government to use. The number to the right of the government type shows the hit to your stability.

Choose your main type of infantry.

Having your troops get caught in enemy territory during the winter can be disastrous.
