Fashion Apprentice is a hidden object game with highly stylized graphics. Anna, the main protagonist, is a fashion assistant to her aunt, a clothes designer. She must collect things like make-up kits, jewelry, clothing and accessories from a list at the right side of the screen.

Some parts of the scenery, like the doors and lamps, are interactive and must be opened, turned on or pushed aside to reveal concealed objects. Objects sometimes show up inside the television set.

Standard variations of gameplay appear between locations. In some places, the screen is split in two similar images, and the player has to click on the differences. In darkened rooms, the cursor becomes a flashlight spot that illuminates a small portion of the screen. In some locations the player has to find several instances of the same object.

Anna's apartment acts as a game hub, where the player can access the map, the wardrobe and the shop. With the money accumulated from the map sections, Anna can buy new dresses at the shop and change her clothes in the wardrobe.

A hint button sits over the list, besides an energy meter. After being used, it takes about a minute to recharge. Bonus items are hidden on the scenery alongside the regular objects, and are stored underneath the hint button to be spent at any time. Candy makes the hint meter fill faster and hourglasses add time to the clock.
