And finally, if you're paying attention Square Enix, I have some words for you: the battle-based Abyssea add-on scenarios are fantastic. Please do something like this, combine it with a truly worthwhile plot, and make it your next big expansion. And, if you're ambitious enough, offer us new zones instead of re-recycling Quon and Mindartia areas. Otherwise, let FFXI die with grace. Don't throw us anything half-assed: the denizens of Vana'diel have given you too much money to be treated to unfinished ideas.

Of course, as with any massively-multiplayer online RPG, these complaints and concerns are but a few patches away from irrelevance. While early adopters might argue that there's "enough" to chew on while Square puts the finishing touches on the eventual, staggered deluge of content downloads, people who have yet to commit to Wings would do well to wait out the current holding pattern. What's available in-game is, at the least, entertaining enough to while away the hours, but much was left by the wayside in Square Enix's rush to the cash register. CAVEAT: If you're a newcomer picking up the Final Fantasy XI Online: The Vana'diel Collection 2008, however, you might as well jump in, since by the time you get up to speed with the existing game's massive content overload, the Wings portion will have undoubtedly been filled by that point.
