GEARCRACK Arena is a top-down shooter where you need to survive nine waves fighting against enemy robots in a single screen arena. At the start of the game you choose one of the four available classes: Hardboiled, Rogue, Wired or Wanderer. The gameplay is identical, but they have different statistics based on the amount of armour, PLC cells (ammo) and hacking ability. At wave 3, 5, 7 and 9 the starting abilities are upgraded and are kept when starting over.

Ammo is very scarce, so you need get close to the robots shooting you and melee kill them with the left mouse button. You can also press the space bar for a chance of hacking the robots for a short time. They will continue to move but cannot shoot. Destroyed robots are kept on the screen as they burn. Shooting is done by holding the right mouse button to aim with a laser sight and you shoot with the left mouse button. To destroy a robot you have to aim at the plasma at their centre. When robots shoot you there is a chance they will penetrate your armour and hit you. The wave is over when all robots are destroyed.
