I can't really think of any negative aspects to Gobliiins 4. Controlling the three Goblins can be a pain at times. They have a tendency to bunch up everywhere, especially when you need to be able to switch among them quickly. But once you learn to hit the space bar to cycle through them, that's no longer a problem. Also, the load time for each level is rather lengthy. But since there’s zero backtracking, this too is not a serious drawback. Really, this is a cleverly designed and entertaining game. And no hint system! Encroyable. I would say that if you're an adult, it's an A minus (a tad too cutesy in spots). If you're an average or even above average 8-year-old, I'd say it's a straight A.

I admit, I became especially enamoured with Gobliiins 4 during my time with it. Every solution I reached was an achievement, every password I gained was a cause for celebration. The cute, simplistic narrative was expertly weaved to hold together the fiendish and enjoyable puzzle action without encroaching on the focus; to tax your brain. It may not be a big game and it may not be a perfect one. It’s not for everyone; if the idea of a tribute to hard-as-nails adventuring turns you off, then walk away. It may not have the impact or technical prowess of most games on the market nowadays. But it had heart, soul and fun in absolute spades; it reminded me why I enjoy this hobby and why the Adventure genre has always been a favourite. We need more games like Gobliiins 4 and more developers like Pierre Gilhodes and Société Pollene who are prepared to make them.

Gobliiins 4 ist eine kleine Herausforderung für Rätselfreunde, die nicht so großen Wert auf den heutigen technischen Standard legen. Die drei Freunde sind lustig und die durchzuführenden Aktionen oft nicht einfach zu erkennen. 16 kurze, abgeschlossene Level bieten eine Spielzeit mit einiger Kopfarbeit von 10 bis 15 Stunden. Wer die Goblins nicht kennt, muss zwar erst einmal herausfinden, wie sie ticken, doch nach den ersten Kapiteln hat man sich schnell eingelebt. Uns hat es viel Spaß gemacht nach dem kleinen Erdferkel zu suchen und die Abenteuer von Tchoup, Perlius und Stucco zu erleben!

As charming as it is bizarre, Gobliiins 4 is a quality throwback to the beloved twisted humor and weird puzzles of the original games, and one of the most likeable titles this year.

Det er rimelig rart å endelig se et nytt medlem i stjerneserien som slukte barn i tenårene rått tilbake på 90-tallet, og det vil ta litt tid å faktisk fordøye at vi endelig får dra ut på tur med småtrollene igjen. Fans av brutale gåter vil umiddelbart føle seg hjemme, selv om fans av serien vil savne pikselsjarmen. Et høyst standard spill med høy vanskelighetsgrad, svært varierte omgivelser og rundt regnet også givende å spille.

Insgesamt kann ich sagen, dass mir dieses Goblin-Adventure recht gut gefallen hat, auch wenn nach ca. 12 Stunden (vom Hersteller versprochen: 30 Stunden!) die Credits über den Screen laufen. Die meisten Punktabzüge erhält das Spiel wegen der wahnsinnig langen Ladezeiten und der mangelnden Bewegungsfreiheit. Woodruff bleibt für mich die Numero Uno der Reihe, weil es mit einer wesentlich tiefer gehenden und interessanten Story auffährt. Für dieses Game, das mir besser gefiel als Teil 1 aber nicht besser als die darauf folgenden Teile gebe ich eine.

Difficile de donner une note à un titre de cette nature. Dépassé techniquement, emporté par des mécaniques simplissimes, Gobliiins 4 parvient néanmoins à offrir une expérience plaisante, car soutenue par des énigmes intelligentes et un univers délicieusement loufoque. Le mélange passera très bien dans le gosier des fans de la première heure, alors que les jeunes joueurs se contenteront simplement d'un regard de mépris, conséquence inévitable d'une culture vidéoludique différente.

As ostensible as Gobliiins 4's shortcomings are, it's still difficult to denounce it to any large degree. Sure, it's fairly hideous in comparison to most of the multitude of games released recently, the narrative is weak and it has some of most cringe-worthy sound I've ever encountered, but it poses a solid, structured set of challenging puzzles that are light enough as to not timelessly absorb the player, but engaging enough to keep you coming back. It's a superbly casual game, perfect for running in the background for intermittent play. Of course, provided you can get the thing into windowed mode.

Schade, dass niemand das Projekt für so aussichtsreich hielt, dass er Pierre Gilhodes mehr Ressourcen zur Verfügung gestellt hätte. Denn Potenzial hat das Konzept allemal, besonders für Knobelfans. Die beinahe amateurhafte Präsentation und der geringe Umfang schaden dem Endprodukt aber merklich.

Gobliiins 4 spielt sich tatsächlich genauso wie die alten Vorläufer, nur mit schlechterer Grafik. Leider ist die Zeit inzwischen weitergelaufen: auch ein kunterbuntes Slapstick-Abenteuer wie dieses würde von einer echten Handlung, ausgefeilteren Charakteren und Komfortfunktionen profitieren. Gobliiins 4 ist ein sehr eigenwilliges, manchmal originelles, fast durchgehend witziges Spiel. Wer ab und zu ein Stündchen knobeln und schmunzeln will, sollte zugreifen.

Собственно, выход очевиден: вернуть в проект Мюриэль. Ради пятой части «Гоблинов» не грех и оторваться от руководства студией Avantilles. Что-то/кто-то подсказывает, что пятой части быть. Вы уж не подведите, не позвольте закидать легенду снежками.

By the end of the game, I lost patience. I was tired of trial and error failures. I was tired of the repetition. The basic story didn’t give me sufficient incentive to continue to experiment despite being stuck. After a while, if what I needed to do wasn’t obvious, I consulted a walkthrough. I wouldn’t have even come close to finishing the game without one.
Gobliiins 4 is a flawed game, filled with problems, awkward design decisions and a baffling lack of foresight. It’s ugly, clumsy and displays nothing that would push you onwards into the late levels. Except for the puzzles. They’re not your everyday “Use the rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle on the zip line” adventuring fare, and it’s easy to find yourself coming up with theories ranging from logical to zany to try and sidestep your latest puzzle. It’s not fair to say that the huge mound of flaws won’t start annoying you sooner rather than later, but then it’s time to walk away and come back later. I very much doubt this is the effect Societe Pollene was going for but, all things considered, it’s not an awful place to be.

Man kann Gobliiins 4 einen gewissen Charme nicht absprechen, muss aber schon die Retro-Brille aufsetzen, um über all die Mängel hinwegzusehen. Lange Ladezeiten, keine Speichermöglichkeit und umständliches Passwort-System für die Level, wenige Interaktionsmöglichkeiten und vor allem eine Technik auf 90er-Jahre-Niveau kosten viele Wertungspunkte. Retro-Fans können aber ein paar Prozentpunkte draufschlagen.

The only thing that's actually likely to upset fans is the ugly (and very low tech) new 3D graphics and short length. But there's also the fact that the gameplay hasn't changed in 16 years and many will blanche at the low-brow humour and complete lack of action. Still, as a labour of love from original artist Pierre Gilhodes, even new players will feel some of that affection rubbing off.

Im Vergleich zur "großen" Adventure-Konkurrenz wirkt Gobliiins 4 reichlich altbacken - statt hübschen Kulissen oder ausladenden Dialogen beschränkt sich das Spiel auf seine Kopfnüsse. Trotz des sehr schmalen Umfangs kann es aber schon nach kurzer Zeit recht monoton werden: Es gibt schließlich weder eine spannende Geschichte noch das typische Suchtpotential oder den Wiederspielwert eines guten Arcade-Puzzlers. Für den kleinen Knobelhunger zwischendurch eignen sich die kleinen, in sich abgeschlossenen Levels aber trotzdem. Außerdem besitzt das Spiel trotz oder gerade wegen der spartanischen Grafik einen eigenen Charme. Falls euch der arg schmale Umfang und der etwas angestaubt wirkende Spielablauf mit seiner Aneinanderreihung von Rätseln nicht stört, könnt ihr also ruhig einen Blick in die sonderbare Welt der Goblins werfen.
All in all, Gobliiins 4 is not that bad. It preserves the spirit and humor of the series. It’s still fun to play and see how the goblins hurt themselves when they do something wrong. It’s good to feel your brain work-ing on these often abstract, bizarre puzzles. Maybe the authors tried to make more of a tribute to the first games, rather than a true sequel to the series? Most of the game mechanics look like they were taken straight from the first. That wasn’t the best possible idea, but they did it and I’ve decided to pay for it!

Mimo niedoróbek Gobliiins 4 potrafi przykuć do ekranu, ale wartość gry jest przede wszystkim sentymentalna i polecam ją wyłącznie starym fanom. Oldskulowców ucieszy także fakt, że do pudełka z nową częścią serii dorzucono także pierwsze trzy odsłony – zlokalizowane i działające pod Okienkami!
Still, for all the frustration of the puzzles and the simplicity of the story, Gobliiins 4 offers some genuine charm and enjoyment. It is a shame that the developer has chosen to increase the longevity of the game by simply populating the later levels with puzzles that are hard as nails, often to the point of obscurity. Fans of the series may want to check this game out. Sadly, for other adventure game fans, a recommendation cannot be offered with a clear conscience.

Essentially, anyone who was (and indeed, still is) a devoted fan of the first three games, will be pleased that Gobliiins 4 continues the series to good effect. It offers a reasonably satisfying storyline with some occasionally head-scratching tasks. However, anyone new to the series will likely feel a tad puzzled as to where Gobliiins 4 sits in the gaming world of today. The graphics, gameplay and entire look of the package just seem out of a little place when compared to more modern titles. Maybe retirement of the franchise is now a good option while that fond nostalgia still remains.
By filling Gobliiins 4 with antiquated visual and gameplay characteristics, Societe Pollene seems to have forgotten that old saying about the dangers of ignoring the past. The game is a frustrating throwback to days long gone. And sometime soon, it’ll be found where all old and forgotten games end up — in the bargain bin.
