We experienced minimal problems with multiplayer Ground Control II. There were times when lag was an issue, but nothing too serious. A small gripe I've got is the fact that Massive Entertainment took the time to create Imperial troops, but didn't see a reason to include them as a playable army in multiplayer. More variety is always a good thing, and I hope that's remedied in a patch. This is a tiny complaint when compared to Ground Control II's total package, however. If you consider yourself an RTS gamer of a more strategic bent, you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy. The graphics are amazing, the single-player mode is entertaining, there are good times to be had online, and the gameplay is deep and rewarding. Not only that, but the game also ships with a level editor, so you should expect some community maps soon. Let go of your base building ways -- you won't miss them.

Ground Control II is an excellent game, one of the better RTS’s out there, and arguably the best entry in its genre so far this year. Despite its stripped down gameplay, Ground Control finds a perfect balance between action and strategy. The result is a game that will appeal to explosion-addicted gamers and tactics fans alike. RTS fans worried that GCII may be too barebones can put their fears to rest. Gamers who avoid the genre due to resource management and oftentimes-repetitive gameplay should give the demo a spin. Ultimately, Ground Control II is an expertly executed game from beginning to end.

IGN (Jun 15, 2004)
The new victory locations, reinforcements, and faster pace of play improved both the single player (both campaign and skirmish) and multiplayer portions of the game. Cooperative play also is a great addition and will add to an already impressive amount of replay value. RTS fans haven't had anything to really be happy about in a long time. Ground Control II will definitely fill the recent void nicely. If you're looking for a new strategy game, definitely give this one a look.

Anno 2000. Vivendi surprised the world with their newest game Ground Control, a real-time strategy title that went against all rules of RTS from those days. Bases were a big no-no ! A limited amount of units that you could select yourself per map and in some maps you could request reinforcements. The graphics you could admire in this game were awesome. The question is whether Vivendi can do justice to the first game with Ground Control 2.

Released four years ago, the original Ground Control was an excellent real-time strategy game set in a sci-fi universe, though it never reached the popularity level of the big-name RTS games like Starcraft or the Command & Conquer series. Nevertheless, it made quite an impact in the genre with its gorgeous 3D engine, which was both powerful and flexible enough to support large maps along with the ability to zoom in to your units to get a look at the action up close. The sequel, Ground Control II: Operation Exodus, keeps this signature element while delivering a stunning presentation coupled with solid gameplay and a lengthy campaign.

Ground Control II: Operation Exodus is a snazzy tactical RTS that breathes some life into the genre without necessarily redefining it. Although much of what's here has been seen in other games (particularly the first Ground Control), Ground Control II profits from great graphics and a play system that works very well online. Just don't expect it to take you where no man has gone before.

Parts of GC2 are too frustrating, and there’s a little too much micromanagement involved, but everything’s good enough that you can easily forgive the faults. Strategists tired of mining gold and whipping peons into shape should consider Ground Control II strongly recommended.

Overall, I got a feeling that some of the problems that had plagued the original were sadly once again evident in the sequel; namely the path finding and other AI issues. Conversely, some of the stuff that amazed me about the first game (how well it all looks and how smoothly it runs on my rig) once again dazzled me while playing the sequel, five years on and with all the latest hardware. Ground Control 2 is often shallow, yet offers a fun strategy ride. The AI routines and its "wealth" of strategy elements are nothing to write home about, but the fun and dynamic mission design as well as its great looking maps and spectacular battle sequences will keep you glued to your screen while it lasts. Ultimately, it all comes down to what type of strategy gaming experience you prefer.

The thought of never seeing a sequel to one of my all time favorites bothered me for a long time. That is until Massive announced the development of a new installment. My emotions shifted from impatience to anticipation and then to fear, because it’s always hard for any successor of a masterpiece to match the quality of the original. Ground Control wasn’t your typical strategy game, having no base/unit building and no resource management, you only had to rely on intelligent decisions and smart tactics (very smart, thanks to the lack of in-game saves, something that has been fixed in the sequel).

Ground Control 2 is unmistakably a superb game in single-player. We missed some of the more intricate aspects of the original, and the ability to carry veteran troops forward between missions is a glaring omission, but despite a few niggling faults, it's still one of the best single-player RTS titles we've ever played, and is well worth the price of entry for that alone - almost certainly a nine out of ten title. Unfortunately, it feels like Massive were forced to rush the multiplayer component of the game; and with multiplayer being a major aspect of any RTS title, that's a pretty large flaw.

Ground Control II (GC2) has some excellent production values. Just take a look at some of the screenshots if you don’t believe me. Having only had a very brief encounter with the demo of the first Ground Control, GC2 surprised me in many ways. It did so both for what I was expecting after the initial wow factor and for what I wasn’t expecting as a newcomer to the series.
