Although there is only around five or six hours of gameplay, the sub 拢20 price, edge-of-the-seat atmosphere and genius-like level design make Episode Two a stunning achievement. For fans of the series this is a must, but for those yet to play Half-Life 2, buy into it and you鈥檒l discover a first-person shooter to die for.

I do have some issues with the game, don鈥檛 get me wrong. I think it is bad business to make PC players re-buy the original Half-Life 2 and Episode One as part of the Orange Box package instead of allowing them to simply buy Episode Two, as they should be able to. And the delay between Episodes One and Two was far too long. But after playing the finished product and greatly enjoying it, I can鈥檛 really complain. The game is just too good to be angry about these problems. Episode Two is an absolute must-purchase for any FPS fan. It鈥檚 an amazing experience from beginning to end. I truly cannot think of a way to improve this game.

When viewed as the sum of its parts, ups and downs abound in HL2: Episode 2. To make the inevitable Star Wars comparison, it's definitely the trilogy's "Empire," with bad things happening to good people and thinking we've made headway when we're still the hunted rather than the hunters. If the ending doesn't leave you somber, you'd better see about getting that new heart, Tin Man.

Any way you look at it, Episode Two stands out, even among the Half-Life series, as something special. It may be shorter than the original, but it's a burly experience packed into roughly six hours or so that offers up all the diversity, level design, and thoughtful gameplay we've known while making sure to propel the story forward and leave us wanting more. We definitely think you should pick up Orange Box for Portal (or HL2 and Episode One if you haven't played them) but if you like the series, you need to play this one. This is the addition Half-Life 2 fans have been waiting for. Here's to hoping Valve can keep up the pace and give us Episode Three in the next couple of years.

On its own, Episode Two might not seem like much for its price tag, but as part of the Orange Box package, it becomes an excellent value that's packaged alongside two very different first-person games. Everything in here is top-notch, and while I have a hard time agreeing with the notion that Episode Two is really that innovative or new, the games it comes packaged with in the Orange Boxmost certainly are. Play this one once or twice to enjoy another solid Valve single-player experience, then move on to Portal and Team Fortress 2 to find the real depth.

What keeps Episode Two interesting is what happens between the action. Aside from the intro sequences, there are plenty of scripted events scattered throughout, some expanding on the strange Combine psychic creatures from Episode One (called 'advisors'), others introducing old friends. Also, your questions are finally getting answered, and Freeman continues to grow closer towards Alyx. That in effect means you will grow closer with her, and when a game can invoke any emotions at all, it's a damn good game.

Beginnen wir mal mit den Kontra-Punkten: Auch Episode 2 hat seine L盲ngen und Schw盲chen - besonders das elend lange Finale gegen schier endlos viele heranstapfende Strider samt ihrer Hunter-Scho脽h眉ndchen ist mehr Arbeit als Spa脽. Au脽erdem ist kaum nachzuvollziehen, wieso die deutsche Fassung auf einmal so viele Schnitte vorzuweisen hat, gerade angesichts der Tatsache, dass die Vorg盲nger komplett ungeschnitten auf den Markt kamen. Das war鈥檚 allerdings auch schon an Punkten, die mir sauer aufstie脽en, der Rest ist fantastisch: Die Abkehr vom Taschenlampen-Massaker von Episode 1 kommt mir sehr entgegen, die Frischluft-Levels sehen exzellent aus und er枚ffnen neue spielerische M枚glichkeiten. Allgemein ist die Pr盲sentation eine Wucht; Valve hat es einfach drauf, ihren perfekt animierten Figuren Leben und Emotionen einzuhauchen - und sie in einer glaubw眉rdigen Welt agieren zu lassen, die von der ersten bis zur letzten Spielminute an das Keyboard fesselt wie kaum eine andere.

Dopo avervi, con immenso piacere, illustrato la bellezza di tale gioco, mi accingo a terminare la recensione. Capolavoro, opera d鈥檃rte, termini spesso abusati nel campo video ludico. Tanto abusati che poi, quando si 猫 di fronte ad un vero capolavoro, 猫 difficile coglierlo nella sua essenza. Quindi, a voi giudicare ci貌 che avete davanti, a voi l鈥檜ltimo giudizio sull鈥檜ltima fatica Valve. Tutto questo per dirvi di non farvi del male, di correre a farvi una cultura su Half life se ancora non l鈥檃veste, e di giocare subito a questo 鈥済ioco鈥. Chiudo la review con un personale nota. A mio parere, finch茅 i videogiochi saranno appunto classificati come 鈥渧ideogiochi鈥, non ci si aspetter脿 molto da essi. Vedetelo come il lancio della prima pietra鈥

The Half Life 2 series manages to constantly raise the bar and it does it with such impeccable style that Valve deserve all the praise and commercial success they deserve. While it鈥檚 not exactly long, it鈥檚 by far one of the best games I鈥檝e ever played and it鈥檚 episodic after all. It is unavoidable as a gaming series and the production of the Orange box means that now it鈥檚 available to most. I highly recommend playing it through because you鈥檒l not want to be left out when Episode 3 is finally revealed.

Suas qualidades s茫o tantas que fazem dele um jogo completamente novo, e n茫o apenas um epis贸dio extra do cl谩ssico de 2004, ainda que aproveite os elementos do mesmo. Visualmente, 茅 um grande avan莽o para a s茅rie, sendo inclusive um dos jogos mais bonitos do momento. A a莽茫o e os quebra-cabe莽as est茫o espalhados de forma inteligente, gerando um equil铆brio que poucos jogos do g锚nero conseguem alcan莽ar. 脡 uma jornada intensa e inesquec铆vel, com personagens que esbanjam carisma e emo莽茫o.

When you step back and look at the game as a whole, it is really the ideal expansion pack: new features, upgraded old stuff, new characters, new areas, new enemies, and a good game length. Props to Valve for making these expansion packs stand-alone. They could have EASILY made them require Half-Life 2, especially considering how story-driven they are, but they did not. They chose to make these games as accessible as possible. If you loved Half-Life 2, you will love Episode 2. And the best part is, because it is running the upgraded Source engine, it will run fine on older machines, but look top-notch on gaming rigs. I will be eagerly waiting for Episode 3 the moment it's released.

Valve heeft met Episode Two wederom een puike game afgeleverd. Het spel is een waardig vervolg van het eerste deel en een goede tweede aflevering in de trilogie. De mensen van Valve hebben bewezen dat ze nog altijd in staat zijn om een goed verhaal om een shooter te bouwen. De spanningsboog zit er vanaf het begin goed in: je ziet er naar uit om in de huid van Freeman te kruipen en Combine neer te schieten, terwijl je met een klein oogje naar de mooie Alyx kijkt.

Hopefully we won't have that much longer to wait for Episode Three. In what's now set-up to be an incredible climax to a truly landmark sequence of releases from Valve, Episode Two leaves us in no doubt that is Valve back to its very best, feeling like a happy medium between the mind-blowing excess of its parent game and its somewhat compact Episode One offspring. While initially lacking in gameplay novelty or many truly 'new' elements that fans always hanker for, it more than makes up for this with its consistently engaging narrative tricks, refined set-pieces and a staggering climax. Even as a standalone release at full price, you'd be hard-pressed to give Episode Two less than a 9, but within the confines of the incredible value Orange Box, it's simply an essential game that any shooter fan needs to play - but from start to finish this time please...

To sum it up, the emotion, presentation, story and overall action-packed gameplay cements Episode 2 as an excellent addition in the Half-Life 2 series and PC gaming in general. While playing Episode 2, I never felt detached or alienated from the game. I have to say, it's strange to finally be able to play Episode 2. It's damn enjoyable.

Fine addition to the overall storyline of Gordon Freeman. Fails to stand alone, but I guess that's episodic gaming. Bit on the short side and the weakest link of The Orange Box, but good fun as long as it lasts.

Keine Sekunde habe ich mich bei Episode Two gelangweilt. Immer wieder rei脽en tolle Momente das Ruder herum, bevor das Spiel zum Shooter-Standard zu verkommen droht. Diesmal erwartet Sie auch ein anst盲ndiges Ende, obwohl das Abenteuer noch lange nicht vorbei ist. Viel zu bem盲ngeln gibt es nicht. Gut, die neuen l盲ndlichen Gebiete strotzen nicht gerade vor Bewegungsfreiheit. Eine neue Waffe (die Portal-Kanone) h盲tte ich mir auch gew眉nscht. Dar眉ber hinaus ist Epi颅sode Two aber das bisher gelungenste Kapitel der Saga.

Preisfrage: M枚chten Sie lieber drei Jahre auf ein 18 Stunden langes Half-Life 3 warten oder stattdessen lieber einmal pro Jahr sechs Stunden einer neuen Half-Life 2-Episode spielen? Ich geh枚re ganz klar zur zweiten Gruppe, vor allem, wenn es sich um ein Spiel wie Episode Two handelt. Denn nach der etwas spr枚den ersten Episode zieht Valve wieder alle Register. Ruhige und hektische Passagen wechseln sich im richtigen Verh盲ltnis ab, Schaupl盲tze wie die Antlion-Brutst盲tten gab es so noch nicht zu sehen und gro脽e Kampfsequenzen wie der Kampf um den Raketensilo sind ganz gro脽es Kino. Ich bin sehr auf das Ende der Episoden-Trilogie gespannt 鈥 hoffentlich dauert das nicht noch einmal ein Jahr

Der zweite Teil einer Trilogie muss richtig krachen. Denken Sie nur an "Das Imperium schl盲gt zur眉ck": Han Solo verschleppt, Hand ab, Vaterschaftstest positiv. Abgesehen vom 眉berraschenden [Nein, das verraten wir wirklich nicht!] fehlt in Episode 2 das gro脽e Drama, daf眉r wird die Geschichte von Half-Life 2 sehr gut fortgef眉hrt - viel besser als in Episode 1, deren Ende mich relativ kalt lie脽. Weil Episode 2 au脽erdem einen Bogen zu Portal schl盲gt, bin ich diesmal wirklich gespannt, wie es weitergeht. Vielleicht mit Gordon Freeman und einer Portalkanone? Das wird wild!

Half-Life 2: Episode Two est l'exemple de ce qu'aurait d没 锚tre Half-Life 2: un jeu brillant, ne souffrant d'aucun temps mort, dont l'action est plus que vari茅e, durant lequel on ne s'ennuie jamais et dot茅 d'une r茅alisation exemplaire. Dommage qu'il ne s'agisse que d'un contenu additionnel dont l'originalit茅 laisse finalement un peu 脿 d茅sirer et dont la dur茅e de vie, bien qu'honorable, frustre tant l'aventure est passionnante.

I love Half-Life, and I do so unabashedly. I love the story, nonsensical and clumsy though it is; I love the characters, mute or unexplored though they are; I love the gameplay, which ... well, which, aside from a few hiccups in this episode, is borderline perfect and always has been. So while I鈥檓 disappointed this episode doesn鈥檛 surpass its predecessors, that鈥檚 asking an awful lot. Overall, what you get in Episode Two is worth it, especially considered in the context of the larger whole. For the first time in its history, Valve has produced other than a superlative product. That鈥檚 more disorienting than disappointing, as though the sky had suddenly changed color or cats started speaking. I don鈥檛 dislike Episode Two. I just wish I liked it more.

Episode Two is a worthy, entertaining addition to the Half-Life saga, even if it's a little more inconsistent than its predecessors. It's got plenty of the action, puzzles and set pieces that's made the series so successful to date, and that formula hasn't been tampered with. The question now is: What kind of finale does Valve have in store for Episode Three?

Il en r茅sulte quelques environnements tr猫s impressionnants malgr茅 l'芒ge du moteur, une phase en voiture bien plus passionnante qu'en 2004 et quelques sc猫nes assez 茅piques qui prouvent encore la ma卯trise de la mise en sc猫ne de Valve. Les animations faciales toujours aussi convaincantes de nos co茅quipiers se chargent, quant 脿 elle, de nous immerger dans ce petit monde en pleine apocalypse qui n'a apparemment pas fini de livrer tous ses secrets. La recette Half-Life 2 est donc transcend茅e dans ce chapitre suppl茅mentaire, ce qui fait d'Episode Two un indispensable pour les fans de la s茅rie mais ne risque pas d'attirer les joueurs qui n'accrochent toujours pas au c么t茅 in茅vitable de la narration du FPS de Valve.
