Worth Playing (Nov 20, 2004)
'Kult: Heretic Kingdoms' is a 3D isometric RPG, that combines 3D technologies and the traditional ways of isometric RPG's. 'Kult: Heretic Kingdoms' will take you from heroic fights against hideous monsters - using weapons and spells - to seeking wisdom and clues for your quests, while interacting with the many NPC's such as spirits and astral enemies.

Overall Kult is a good game, save for some minor niggles which will hopefully be patched in time. Indeed a patch to version 1.1 is already available that fixes a couple of these minor issues. The only major issue is the long loading times on lower spec machines. In spite of these faults the game plays well, and although the character abilities aren’t particularly original (elemental attacks, etc.) this is more a criticism of the whole genre, and Kult has a refreshing system to learn and use them. The story is a strong point too, which for an RPG is probably the most important aspect for most players. Definitely worth a try.

The year 2004 is not likely to be fondly remembered in the annals of single player role-playing game history. There were no traditional, fantasy turn-based role-playing games released. The genre received a single first-person RPG in the form of Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, and a few action-RPG titles including Beyond Divinity and Sacred. Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition is in the latter category—they are often called Diablo II clones—and is also a product of the emerging Eastern European development community.

If you enjoy playing Role Playing Games, you should definitely check out Kult : Heretic Kingdoms. Though it might appear a little dated, the game offers some innovative features, such as the addition of the Dreamworld, combined with a good story. Although Kult can use some improvement in some areas and lacks multiplayer options, it is one of the better RPG games from the moment.
Game Chronicles (May 13, 2005)
I was pretty excited when Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition arrived on my desk. I had read some good things about it since it had already been previously released under a different name (Kult: Heretic Kingdoms) in Europe, and it had garnered good reviews from most of the press. Heretic Kingdoms is by 3D People, a relatively new Slovakian game developer studio. In the US the game is being published by Got Game Entertainment. Got Game publishes a variety of game styles, from RPG’s to Adventures to Strategy and even Action.
Adventure Lantern (Aug, 2006)
Heretic Kingdoms is a fairly entertaining game that is somewhat lacking in polish. The mouse-driven controls are simple, the graphics are good enough to get the job done, the combat is relatively fluid and very easy to learn. The game takes place in an imaginative setting, offering a fairly engaging plot. The attunement system and the dreamworld make for some interesting dynamics. Players have access to a good amount of customization for their characters. But at the same time, the game has some minor stability issues, somewhat lengthy load times, and an attunement list that becomes difficult to manage. Some of the environments you explore could have been a little more detailed and a number of the quests should have been a little more involved. The decision-making involved could have also been spread throughout the game in a better way. Heretic Kingdoms is not exactly a hallmark RPG experience.
Game Over Online (Apr 28, 2005)
In all, Heretic Kingdoms does more new things in one game than I’ve seen in the last dozen games I’ve played combined. That’s a good thing, and it almost makes up for the game’s technical problems (slow load times, long pauses when adjusting equipment) and missing features (no mini-map, no way to pause and give orders). But, overall, I enjoyed playing Heretic Kingdoms. Its fast pace and effective story-telling won me over, and I’d recommend it to all fans of action role-playing games.

An isometric, 2D RPG? But… why? Is this genre not oversubscribed enough, have we not moved on to 3D? Well yes on both counts, but that hasn’t stopped 3D People from diving into the pit with Kult: Heretic Kingdoms, bringing with them a fair haul of new ideas. It’s just a shame the name is so embarrassing.

In a land where religion has been banned, where an adviser has usurped the throne, you must step forward to put things right. In Got Games's newest game, Heretic Kingdom: the Inquisition, your choices and your path lead to how the world will be changed forever. Taking the role of a mage in a restless era, where the future is uncertain. A deep involving quest and choices will effect on how you choose to change the land, for good or for evil. Your choices and consequences affect everyone around you.

Ever since antiquity, there have been those born with the mark of the Macula, the dead god. Those bearing the mark could ultimately hold the power of magic. Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisitor is the tale of one such woman who bears the mark, but she has been embraced by the ruling power and she is on the path to becoming an Inquisitor, one who stamps out the outbreaks of religion through might of arms.
PC Action (Dec 14, 2004)
Old PC Gaming (Jun 05, 2017)
Balancing issues are one of the major gripes you'll have to deal with, since the difficulty arc seems to be structured ass-backwards. The game will seem very hard at the early parts of the game, will feel about right halfway in, and pretty damn easy towards the end as long as you do a good job building your character. This detail aside though, the game offers a good deal of originality and plenty of action, all bunled in a retro isometric package.

This year, RPG fans are left a bit aside. A couple of games have been released but these hardly deserved the title of "classic" or "very good game". 3D People are trying to change that with Kult: Heretic Kingdoms, although not going the hardcore RPG way. This singleplayer action RPG (hack & slash - ed.) comes on one cd and takes up over 1.9GB after installation. Let's hope that's some well-used space...

Next Level Gaming (Apr 13, 2005)
The big difference is, in Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition, which you are an Inquisitor that is out to crush religion, including all those who believe in it and any divine objects.
Gameplay (Benelux) (Oct 30, 2004)

GameStar (Germany) (Nov, 2004)
