The Playmobil characters in the game are brought to life and combined with an interesting story to make a game that will challenge not only younger players, but more experienced gamers as well. While the game does have more primitive 3D modeling for the world than others of its type, it makes up for it in the cuteness of the character animations. If you've been looking for a game that kids will enjoy, take a look at Hype -- you won't be disappointed.

Die immer freundlichen Figürchen mit den gezackten Deppenfrisuren haben mich mit mehr oder minder großem Erfolg durch die Schrecknisse der Kindheit gelotst. Daher habe ich Hype mit nostalgieschwangerem Herzen gespielt - und geliebt. Dank strenger Kontrolle der Playmobil-Firma Geobra Brandstätter wurde dem Spiel ein originalgetreues Design und eine kinderfreundliche Geschichte verpasst, die dem Charakter der Plastikmännchen genau entsprechen! Dabei sind weder die Kämpfe noch die Hüpfsequenzen läppische Kleinkinderübungen, sondern stellen durchaus eine Herausforderung für die Zielgruppe dar Einzig die Dialoge könnten noch etwas ausgefeilter sein.

If you have children who like computer games, this one is a "can't miss" title. Even if you don't, you might want to pick it up for a charming and fun change of pace.
HYPE: THE TIME QUEST is Ubi Soft’s attempt to produce a version of LEGEND OF ZELDA: THE OCARINA OF TIME for the PC. That’s not a cynical interpretation of the company’s motives; the game’s press kit mentions ZELDA at least as many times as HYPE itself. So let’s cut right to the chase: HYPE is no ZELDA. It’s not as long, not nearly as deep, and less fun. Of course, these same complaints can be lodged against every game that has tried to mimic ZELDA. If we can try to put ZELDA out of our minds and take HYPE on its own terms, HYPE is a polished and enjoyable 3D action/adventure.

These few drawbacks aside, Hype offers a good story combined with first-rate production values. It's a game suitable for children that's sophisticated enough to attract adults. Think of Hype as a Zelda simulation - it's a fun diversion that captures enough of its inspiration's spirit to be worth playing but doesn't match the actual Zelda experience.

And it is simple, amiable fun. I found satisfaction in even the most ordinary of tasks: playing exterminator, climbing the timbers atop the monastery tower, and sorting out the combination for a locked door. Not to mention more complex challenges like the progressively more difficult bosses. Battles with the sumo wrestler in the monastery and the grand magician in the lab kept me well occupied.

Hype tries to be Zelda for the computer, but it doesn't quite make it. It's a fun little game, more reminiscent of the Tomb Raider series than the Zelda games, but it doesn't quite match The Ocarina of Time's playability. Enough of that, though. Let's talk about Hype. In this game, you're a soldier from the future (well, it's all medieval, but it's later medieval), and you're trying to get back to your time. Along the way, you'll encounter baddies and difficult traps and levels and whatnot, and you'll get to learn all sorts of spells and such. You know the drill.

We did it all to ourselves. Ubisoft kept telling us that this was a children's game, but we all kept interrupting and saying "yeah, but it's the next Zelda." It's a good title, but overall it's just too simple to charm most adult gamers. That's fine -- it was never for us. Seeing this through a child's eyes, this game is perfectly crafted, and aimed squarely at a youthful skill level. Things are just simple enough to avoid confusion, but filled with enough challenge to make the average 8 or 9 year old sweat Nerf bullets. There was never a moment when I felt this game was substandard, badly crafted, or shoddily engineered, but there was more than a few times when I thought I was a bit too old.
Hype is een visueel mooi en origineel spel en zou ook voor volwassenen zeer hoog scoren als het wat minder een console- en wat meer een pc-game geworden was.

Visto aos olhos de uma criança, The Time Quest é um título divertido e um bom passatempo, e é exatamente isso que pretende os produtores do jogo. São 80 personagens e 14 mundos diferentes para as crianças viajarem. Aos jogadores mais velhos, não custa nada experimentar um pouco do game. Nem que seja pra relembrar as brincadeiras de criança e encontrar velhos conhecidos de plástico.
Ja - genau so sieht es im Playmobil-Universum aus! Selbst die Bewegungen der Figuren wirken äußerst glaubwürdig - exakt so stakst man durch die Gegend, wenn man mit Playmobil-Stummelbeinchen geschlagen ist. Knifflige Hüpf-Einlagen, Kämpfe und die Zeitreisen machen diesen Titel auch für ausgewachsene Neulinge interessant, wenngleich der Umfang nur für einige spielvergnügte Abende ausreicht. Nun, die eigentliche Zielgruppe dürfte das wenig jucken. Ich wünsche mir, dieses Programmier-Team würde bei Gelegenheit ein Action-Adventure für eine ältere Zielgruppe in Angriff nehmen.

Hype biedt een kinderlijk eenvoudig verhaal, leuke en gevarieerde locaties, opvallend spetterende actie, knappe magische effecten en het typische Playmobil design. Jonge avonturiers die zich geen moer aantrekken van platte bitmaps zullen het ongetwijfeld fantastisch vinden maar aan de oudere avonturiers zou ik toch eerder Drakan aanbevelen.

So lieb Hype auch dreinguckt, Zeldas Link hat deutlich mehr zu bieten. Stimmungsvollere Grafik sowieso, vor allem aber unzählige Bonusspielchen und Subquests. Einige davon wie z.B. die Jagd nach den versteckten Skulltulas (hier Wespennester) wurden zwar übernommen, doch das Nintendo-Original bleibt unerreicht. Außerdem habe ich schon immer lieber mit Lego gespielt...
It's a shame that these awkward interface features mar Hype, it is such a marvelous game. Unfortunately the interface problems are intrinsic, and will not be solved by a patch. Still, it is a charming adventure, and not at all easy to solve. No two ways about it: it's not just for kids.

L'ambiance un peu niaise du jeu ne conviendra pas aux "hardcore Gamers", c'est évident. Ce qui est sûr, c'est que Hype est un jeu suffisemment sérieux techniquement pour qu'on s'y plonge facilement, avec par ailleurs une bonne jouabilité et une grosse richesse globale.

Was Ubisoft mit dem armen Hype gemacht hat, ist wirklich ärgerlich. Denn die Story ist schön und die Atmospähre der Playmobil-Welt gut eingefangen. Doch unpräzise Steuerung und ungenaue Kollisionsabfrage verderben einem gehörig den Spaß. Schöne Stellen wie das nette Wettrennen stimmen zwar versöhnlich, dennoch bleibt Hype ein Fall für Hüpf-und-Spring-erfahrene Plastilin-Freunde mit einer Extraportion Geduld.
