The photos of creepy crawlers in this program, based on Scholastic's best-selling book series and hit television show "The Magic School Bus," are detailed enough to make you squirm. Kids aged 6 to 10 can flip through virtual book reports and then hunt through various environments to expand their bug collections. By constructing their own bugs, kids determine what features best promote survival. The program includes catchy songs and fun language for little kids, and it seamlessly sneaks in advanced vocabulary to challenge older ones.

This bug treasure hunt was a huge success with kid-testers! Unfortunately, only 8 of the 85 bugs get lost so this activity is very limited in its replayability. However, because there are so many other activities to go “buggy” over, it is a title with a lot of value.
This program could easily be used and enjoyed in the classroom setting (K-2 or 3) by students (it is fun) and by teachers (it is educational). Younger children will really appreciate the humor and presentation style found in this microcosm of facts, but most 9-10 year olds are beginning to seek a more sophisticated approach to learning.
