I suppose I am the best possible choice to reviewing this game, being one of the biggest Matrix fans this side of the Mississippi and all. To give you an idea of how much I love the universe created by The Wachowski Brothers, I will tell you that I loved Enter the Matrix simply because it was a Matrix video game. Is it, objectively, a good game? I have no idea. It was a Matrix game, I played it, I loved it.
UOL Jogos (Nov 24, 2005)
"The Matrix: Path of Neo" consegue, em parte, apagar a má impressão deixada por "Enter the Matrix".
Cheat Code Central (Nov 09, 2005)
It's painful to watch a story you love become a victim to a horrible adaptation. I'm sure just looking at the title of this game, and given it's origin, "The Matrix" is enough to frighten you and put you in a frenzy to hit the X button and close this window.

In Path of Neo you don't just take on the role of any old character, which you might have guessed already by looking at the title. It's up to you to save humanity from it's doom and who else is capable of that other than our very own Mr. Anderson! You walk through all three chapters of the trilogy in 25 missions, give or take. However, the game is not always true to the storyline. That being said, you will have to see to it that Neo isn't captured by the agents in one of the early missions by guiding him to the roof of the building he works in. Or you will find yourself protecting a security guard from a horde of SWAT-members in a shabby clock tower. Even the final mission differs from the movie plot, but of course I'm not going to release all to much info on that. I am, however, able to tell you that the final cut scene might well tickle your funny bone and give you a chuckle. It sure did for me!

The Matrix: Path of Neo is obviously based on the film trilogy The Matrix and is a spin-off of The Matrix that was released in 2003. Naturally, the first thing everyone will want to know: is it better? Yes, far better. It plays better and looks better. Path of Neo is much more technologically advanced than most other games even try to be, but then again, in this new generation of games and consoles that is what was expected. It is definitely ahead of its time in lighting, effects, and animation, but Atari may have taken it a little too far this time.
PC Action (Jan 05, 2006)
Aber ich sag Ihnen mal was: Mir hat The Matrix: Path of Neo tatsächlich Spaß bereitet.
TotalVideoGames (TVG) (Nov 14, 2005)
Set in the Matrix universe, The Matrix: Path of Neo, will enable players to actually play as "Neo," the central character, and relive his most important and memorable scenarios from the complete film trilogy, including the original The Matrix.
GameSpot (Nov 10, 2005)
Path of Neo is a good brawler at its core, but the PC version is seriously lacking in comparison to its console counterparts.
GameZone (Dec 09, 2005)
This movie came pretty much out of nowhere and stunned audiences with its story and special effects. The movie I am referring to is the original Matrix. Since that time there have been two lackluster movie sequels, a cartoon movie series (The Animatrix), as well as many less then stellar games that have been produced off this storyline. Hopping to resurrect the franchise is a new game entitled The Matrix: Path of Neo, which offers gamers the chance to go into the shoes of Neo from the very beginning moments of the first movie until the end, as well as having an all-new ending written by the creators of the franchise. Read on to find out if you should rush out and get this game, or just stick with watching the first movie.
Club Skill (Dec 22, 2005)
By the opening menu, I already had two serious concerns about The Matrix: Path of Neo. My first was the Matrix label. The trilogy that kicked off so auspiciously with 1999’s The Matrix never lived up to its initial promise. Additionally, the previous video game effort by Atari, Enter the Matrix, was mediocre even by the low standards for movie games. Did this franchise have any more to give?
IGN (Nov 17, 2005)
We might as well get it out of the way and tell you right from the beginning that The Matrix: Path of Neo is a whole lot better than 2003's spin-off, Enter the Matrix. It looks better, it plays better, and taking control of the former Mr. Anderson is more satisfying than running around as Ghost or Niobe any day of the week. But more than that, Path of Neo tried to do things technologically on consoles that few other titles rarely attempt. Its Windows counterpart, however, doesn't exactly push the limits of its hardware with a surplus of particles, shadows, lighting effects, and animations... regardless of that fact that Path of Neo has a lot to like in just about every element of its production.
ActionTrip (Nov 18, 2005)
Anybody remember "Enter the Matrix?" No? I do. It's an agonizing memory to say the least. I think most of you know why, especially those of you who had the misfortune of playing the PC version. More than two years ago, Atari saw a golden opportunity. They seized the Matrix franchise with the notion of creating a "cool" game just in time for the theatre launch of Matrix Reloaded (how novel). Of course, in addition to employing the top-notch cast from the Matrix movies to play through all the additional cut-scenes, Atari also had to choose a renowned development team that was up to the task of making such a game. Shiny seemed like a good choice. Unfortunately for us, they didn't do a very good job. As a matter of fact, the first game was dreadful (read our review to find out why). So, a few years later, Shiny was offered a decent chance to redeem itself with The Matrix: The Path of Neo.

Shiny developed the previous The Matrix game, Enter the Matrix, which was very costly but not a very satisfactory game. In The Matrix: Path of Neo Shiny made efforts to improve the experience by choosing Neo as the main character, but it was not enough to salvage the game from inadequacy.

Navigating your way to those cool moments can get painful. Camera angles flip between a fixed position and a mouse-look aiming mode, which will have you heaving in short order. Fifteen minutes into the game, the stuttering camera views sent me into fits as I ran down staircases, fending off security guards. And the graphics...I never thought I’d see anything more wooden and flat than Keanu’s acting, but thanks to the forced animations (Neo’s either at a dead stop or a mad sprint, with no in-between) and dated, pasty-faced textures, I stand corrected. This isn’t a terrible game. On the contrary, Path of Neo is the best Matrix game to date. Talk about keeping expectations low.
Playback (Dec, 2005)
Kończąc tą wyjątkowo długą recenzję wiem dokładnie, jak podsumować Matrix: Path of Neo. Jednak…
USA Today (Dec 16, 2005)
After playing The Matrix: Path of Neo, I found myself asking the same question Cypher poses: "Why, oh why, didn't I take the blue pill?" The Wachowski brothers' latest foray into gaming underwhelms, failing to convey the spark and visual appeal of the films.
PC Games (Germany) (Dec 26, 2005)
Gaming Target (Mar 21, 2006)
Is it really necessary to revisit a film franchise that has gone by the wayside since the last film was released more than two years ago? The whole idea behind The Matrix: Path of Neo is that the answer to that question is, "yes." Essentially a movie trilogy companion game, Path of Neo starts off in a rough spot, trying to find relevance in a pop-culture that has essentially put the franchise on the back burner already. From there, the game has to fight an uphill battle.
GameStar (Germany) (Dec, 2005)

Super !
I think Matrix: Path of Neo wasted a lot of potential. It was cool to punch Morpheus through the walls of a dojo in Neo's training. But struggling with the awful controls and trudging through the repetitive, boring levels brings down the experience to a level low enough that I can't recommend buying the game. After every session I had with the game, I felt myself wanting to play the game less and less. I actually think Path of Neo is better than Enter the Matrix, simply because there is potential entertainment to be found here, but I'd recommend a weekend rental at most. Morpheus was wrong, because Neo's not The One.
Absolute Games ( (Apr 12, 2005)
Взял первую — welcome to the real world.
Maximum PC (Feb 23, 2006)
Remember Enter the Matrix? Shiny’s last game, timed to coincide with the launch of the last two Matrix movies, was seriously flawed, but still included moments of fun. Path of Neo addresses the main complaint about the first game—you couldn’t play as Neo—but bugs, bad decisions, and schizophrenic cutscenes leave this game in worse shape than its predecessor.
