Armchair Empire, The (May 17, 2004)
All in all, Midnight Nowhere is the best title of the year to come for the exciting and morbid horror genre. Midnight Nowhere is a fine and classic example of what gaming should be – stimulating, playable, refreshing and real. A title to be remembered for years to come, and fright the living daylights out of the hardest horror fanatics. Midnight Nowhere is quite simply positively charged, spine-tingling fun!
Igray.ru (Dec 02, 2002)
PGNx Media (Nov 06, 2003)
Midnight Nowhere is not going to be for everyone. While this review is based on final code, it isn’t a boxed copy. I didn’t find Midnight Nowhere on EBGames.com or GameStop.com at all. They don’t even list it. The reason I was looking for it is because I would love to see what the ESRB rates it. If you can find it, and happen to like adventure games, check it out, though.
IGN (Mar 16, 2004)
Waking up in a body bag is not exactly how one might want to start their day. But that is exactly how the story begins in Midnight Nowhere, with the main character waking up, unzipping the bag and crawling out. He looks around and sees he is in a room full of corpses. It is quite cold. After escaping this room, the mission then becomes to learn his identity and discover who is killing everyone around him.
GamersHell.com (Nov 26, 2003)
First of all, if I awoke in a body bag, I would quickly use up my limited oxygen supply by screaming myself hoarse. Secondly, if a game’s going to follow the preset rules for a horror adventure, a little self-deprecation here and there never hurts. In Midnight Nowhere’s quest to discover the bent mind (or minds) that carried out the terrifying destruction presented, it brings with it a cavalier smart-mouth to keep its ego in check. I marked the gameplay a bit lower for the occasionally inscrutable puzzle and persnickety egg hunt for items, but Mr. One-Liner never failed to keep me moving forward a little more, if for no other reason than to see what asinine phrase bubbled from his corny disposition around the next corner. If you’re in the mood for a sarcastic cerebral affair, check out Midnight Nowhere. You’ll chuckle through your confusion and frustration.
GamePlasma (Apr 24, 2004)
Overall, Midnight Nowhere is a good game. The story is impressive and suspenseful, the environments are highly detailed, and the game has excellent voice acting. Unfortunately, it suffers from being too short, having no replayability, it suffers from a few annoying glitches. If I were to rate my experience playing the game, I'd say I had a pretty good time. I'd recommend this game to anyone looking for an immersive story driven adventure game.
Just Adventure (Apr 02, 2003)
Despite the problems I mentioned, Midnight Nowhere was an immensely satisfying adventure. I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome which was a very unconventional ending – this one will leave you with your jaw dropped and mentally revising the interwoven parts of the story for a while. Something about the setting or maybe the despairing soundtrack, especially the main tune, reminded me of a David Cronenberg movie. Definitely worth trying for any adventurer out there but specially good if you’re a fan of horror stuff – if you like adventures with spooky atmosphere, haunting storyline and creepy bathrooms, add a plus to that final score.

GameSpot (Apr 01, 2004)
As the gaming industry becomes more global, we're beginning to see a large number of games coming from Europe and Russia. Midnight Nowhere is one of these games, and it's an attempt to build a spooky horror adventure about serial killers. Unfortunately, it's also a game that you can't help but feel got lost in translation.
Adventurearchiv (Jan 30, 2004)
"Midnight Nowhere" is for people starting from 16 years, and addresses such players, who have themselves prepared against a bloody ambient inclusive violance and sex and also against the description of drug consumption. Thus rather a game for adults, who do not have anything against blood-smeared scenes and lying about corpses. Likewise one should forearm against a bleak environment with little communication, which often runs off misleadingly and medium puzzles. The label 'horror' better matches to the translation.
PC Games (Germany) (Jan 08, 2004)

Unfortunately, having to battle the interface made the game tedious, and I lost interest about a third of the way through. Taking several days' break from the game didn't improve my experience any, as I'd lost what little curiosity remained. And that's a shame, because Midnight Nowhere started out with promise and then slowly fizzled into a dud. Luckily, the pretty graphics and curious plot line kept the game from garnering the FFC rotten egg. As it stands, it's just mediocre average.
Adventure Gamers (Feb 08, 2004)
The puzzle structure, iffy dialogue, and subject matter make this a hard recommendation to a general audience. As the score indicates, unless you’re a hardcore horror/adventure fan, it might be wise to first play the demo, or await a price-drop.
Jolt (UK) (Apr 06, 2004)
Midnight Nowhere – this could be just the game for you if: Your favourite movie is Army of Darkness; your favourite TV show is the X-Files; you have a high tolerance for linear point’n’click adventures with occasionally obscure puzzles; you’re not claustrophobic. Not an entirely likely combination, but if you can tick off at least two of those then Midnight Nowhere might have something to offer.
Absolute Games (AG.ru) (Dec 09, 2002)
games xtreme (Jun 14, 2004)
Basically Midnight Nowhere doesn’t deliver what it promised. There are some nice quirky moments, for example you can make a corpse dance around by sending an electrical charge through it, and certainly some of the imagery is eerie and disturbing, but basically the game has too many faults. The humour doesn’t work because it has been poorly translated and the plot often suffers from the same problem. The game also has a tendency to crash, so regular saving is a must. This may be what is hot in Siberia but the game certainly left me cold.
Schade eigentlich.
Quandary (Apr, 2004)
The one thought that stayed with me throughout the game was that some (not all) teenage males will probably think this is 'cool'. Uncharitable of me, I know but the audience for Midnight Nowhere is one that sees 'attitude', juvenile humour, body count and scantily clad or naked females as a definite plus. Grown up adventurers may consider looking elsewhere for 'mature' and 'adult' content.
GameSpy (Apr 14, 2004)
Midnight Nowhere has a very creepy atmosphere, excellent puzzles, and great voice acting. If it weren't for the terrible translations, it might be one of the best adventure games of the year. As it is, only give this Russian import a try if hours of nonsensical sentences don't bother you.
Gamers Europe (Apr 19, 2004)
Midnight Nowhere has the worst box art ever. Fact. That’s a stone cold, hard as nails fact. No getting around it, this box art is simply appalling. From the pathetic background picture to the cheap Photoshop job done on the text, it reeks. Could well put you off buying the game, but don’t let it. This review will do that for you.
Thunderbolt Games (Apr 19, 2004)
The game's opening cutscene in all it's cinematic glory sets a dark and grisly tone, but fails to reveal an awful lot. Where is this city? In which country? How were the victims murdered? What the hell is going on here? The confusion continues as the game begins. You wake up inside a body bag, unzip it and find yourself in a morgue. Who are you? How did you get there? Why are you in a body bag, but not dead? Are you a zombie?
If you’re a lewd, foul-mouthed heroin aficionado who enjoys lame, linear puzzle games, then play Midnight Nowhere. If you’re more the genteel and discriminating sort, consider yourself warned: The gameplay in this game about serial murders is even more horrific than its story line.
Just Adventure (Feb 10, 2004)
In the end, the title is prophetic. Midnight Nowhere will take you nowhere. Unless you enjoy mature content, the game is not too much fun. I am not one of those persons. It is too bad that a game with some clever puzzles, a good story and creepy environments is ruined by an over reliance on unnecessary mature content. This will be the first time I given two different grades to a game. It’s up to you to decide whether this game will suitable for you or not.
I would say don’t get this game unless it is bargain basement priced and only if you have a WT in hand to help you find the hot spots in the game. Even then – be prepared to search and re-search the same area to trigger them. However, for people interested in collector’s items – you might get it.
Unless you enjoy the frivolous feeling of tossing your hard earned money out the window just for grins, hold on to your purses and wallets and save that cash for a game that is worth buying.
