What Morpheus is, though, is a solid adventure game experience wherein the sum of the parts add up to an engrossing, challenging whole. The conclusion wraps up the game nicely and makes it all seem worthwhile. It is really a feeling of satisfaction to complete this game. It does not jump on the new action/adventure bandwagon that seems to be prevalent in almost every adventure game coming out this fall/winter. Morpheus is an adventure experience for those gamers crying out for a return to pure adventure.
Gamezilla (Oct 05, 1998)
I originally gave this game a score of 89 because of a few serious technical difficulties. Since Piranha immediately issued a patch to fix the worst bug, I brought the score up a few points. I could easily have given the game a 95; it's that good. As it stands, Morpheus succeeds in far more ways than it disappoints. If you're a die-hard adventure gamer, a fan of Titanic, a mystery buff, or just want a good puzzle to solve, it's well worth your time and money. If you're a twitch junkie, however, another title may give you the adrenaline rush you crave.
Having now played Morpheus through all the way twice over the last few months (the final release version had a lot of substantial improvements over the beta I played originally), I have become quite addicted to this game. I would rank it right up there with my very favorites in this genre, Cyan’s MYST/Riven and SegaSoft’s Obsidian. While dark plots are not usually my cup of tea, the magnificent graphics and music, consistently high production values, connection to deep-seated emotions, and fascinating characters won me over on this one. I enthusiastically give it a Reviewer’s Choice Award, and maybe now that I have finished this review I can finally begin to have normal dreams again when I sleep.
Power Unlimited (Feb, 1999)

Bottom line, I would buy this game again. It is a great game and though I had some gripes it would be a welcome addition to any gamers library. The puzzles will keep even the most avid player awake at night and the graphics put that other great ship, the Titanic, to shame. If you are like me, always looking for an absorbing and formidable game, than Morpheus will fit the bill. Bon voyage!
Quandary (Oct, 1998)
This game is quite absorbing and it does have something different in the presentation of some of the puzzles. I only wish that it had a few more puzzles to keep me occupied, perhaps the 'dream world' episodes could have delivered more in this respect, but I surely enjoyed the experience. I especially appreciated the ending when the stories merge, but my lips are sealed on this point :).
Morpheus's end came as suddenly as did Mathew's unconsciousness and left me a bit bewildered if not a little disappointed. Others may like the type of ending that Morpheus offers, but I don't, either in games or in movies. But don't let this keep you from playing the game—inevitably you will meet a host of characters, listen to tales, and observe actions from long ago that make up a terrific story and make for a really good game. Had I not experienced the technical glitches, I would have given Morpheus a Gold Star.
Mystery Manor (May 27, 2005)
Morpheus is an interesting and challenging adventure game with many types of puzzles and areas to explore. Better characterization would have led to a better story, and a better game. The navigation was bad enough that it almost stopped me from playing it. It is, however a memorable game, and one I would recommend, but with a few caveats.
Overall, MORPHEUS is a nice adventure game, despite occasional unevenness and an ambivalent conclusion. While several puzzles are too simple, others will give your brain a workout. Between that and the superior graphics, most adventurers are likely to find this one a pleasant few days’ diversion.
Morpheus also finds some occasional nice moments when it portrays the haunting of the ship. Whenever full-motion video isn't involved, these ghosts pack a bit of bite-a familiar bite, of course, obviously scavenged from The Shining and Disney World's Haunted Mansion, but bite nonetheless. If the game didn't lapse into FMV time and time again, it might even manage to create some atmosphere. As it stands, however, Morpheus is worthy of your gaming dollars only if you're a rabid fan of the genre who has exhausted all other alternatives-or if you adore lousy actors wrassling with lousier lines on cheap sets with poor lighting.
