Mountain Goat Mountain
Description official description
Mountain Goat Mountain is a fast game where the player helps a goat ascend an endless mountain made up out of blocks, designed with the diagonal movement of the classic Q*bert. The game is almost the reverse of the contemporary and slightly earlier released Down the Mountain that uses a similar design and visual style. There are different control schemes, but the default one splits the game vertically control-wise. Swiping the left or right side makes the goat jump that way and the diagonal direction of the swipe determines whether it goes up or down.
There are various hazards to avoid such as boulders, logs, snowballs, gaps, water, crumbling blocks, lightning, trees that block a direction etc. Jump pads can be used to cross large gaps, springs provide temporary invulnerability and coins can be collected as the single currency in the game. Next to hazards, the player needs to prevent the goat from dying by eating vegetation regularly, forcing quick gameplay to keep moving. A meter appears and depletes when the goat gets hungry. When the goat dies, the game is over and needs to be restarted entirely. The environment is randomized with each session.
There are many different types of goats that can be unlocked. This is done through chests, provided regularly or found in-game, or by spending 100 coins to open a mystery crate. Different goats do not only provide an aesthetic variation, but can add very different changes to the environment. The dubstep goat drops a bass with every jump, the rain goat slips and slides, the blizzard goat needs to travel through a snowy environment, the samurai goat adds an Asian theme to the game etc. The game is free-to-play with in-app purchases for certain goats, even though they can also be unlocked through gameplay. Additional coins, next to those found in-game, can be earned regularly by watching video advertisements.
