Just when you thought you’d seen everything, HER Interactive finally pulled just the right strings to create the latest – and greatest – Nancy Drew mystery so far.

There will always be gentle debates between fans of this series as to the “best” Nancy Drew game yet. I will have to pick Deception Island, with Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake running a very close second. Deception Island to me has it all; a wide range of game environments, a host of credible characters, well crafted graphics and ambiance, and a great plot that weaves the curiosities of the past with the present day mysteries into one entertaining package. Then they threw in some diverting side events just for fun’s sake. Toss it all together and you have one charming game, sure to give adventure players their moneys worth and more.

Nancy Drew games are usually a good bit of bang for the buck, offering many hours of interesting play, and the newest title, "Danger on Deception Island" is excellent value. We expect to pay about $25 for a mystery, and this price compares to a good hardback book. The Nancy mysteries are as much like a book or a movie, as they are a game. A player only has so much control of the story, but they do sometimes decide the order. This combination of book and game is eloquent.

Nancy Drew Danger on Deception Island is a solid kids' game with straight-ahead puzzles and pleasant graphics. You can buy this game for your child without giving a second thought to age-appropriate material. I suspect the adult fans of this game will like it a lot. Nonfans take heed. As I mentioned above, I haven't played any of the prior eight games so I'll leave the compare and contrast to others. For me it was a nice interlude from my more adult fare and did exactly what it was supposed to do, the way a freezer should make ice cubes or a battery should power a radio. Nothing extra special, not great, not terrible. Just Nancy Drew doing what Nancy Drew do.

A great game for the family, and one that parents can feel safe letting their teens play. This is one of the easier games in the series, and parents who don't own any of the Nancy Drew games may want to look at the earlier ones like Ghost Dogs, Secret of the Scarlet Hand and Message in a Haunted Mansion for their older teens. There's different levels of difficulty, but the hardest level still features fairly easy puzzles.

I have to say that of the nine games released—and I have played all of them—this is definitely the best one. I can only hope that they keep up this standard of quality and maybe add in a few new elements for the next game, The Secret of Shadow Ranch.

I had fun playing Danger on Deception Island. Over all another great game has been made by Her Interactive, well done!
