Description
Onikira: Demon Killer is a 2D platform game set in ancient Japan. According to a legend if a mortal could bind the soul of a dragon, they would gain access to unlimited power. Emperor Hirumo brough magic from the underworld to defeat a dragon and used the power for thousands of years to bring suffering to dragons and humans. One of the last remaining dragons, Mizuchi, chose to bound herself to another warrior to use the combined power to stop Hirumo. Now they fight an endless battle in the underground. The player controls a warrior through a side-scrolling environment. He can move around and uses a light and a heavy attack that can be combined to execute combos. It is also possible to double jump and attack in the air with two different attacks. It is often possible to stay in the air, engaging different enemies, without touching the ground. By holding the heavy attack a move can be executed that generally launches the enemy into the air. The warrior is also able to dash to avoid enemies. Most of the battles take place in closed off sections and the barriers disappear when all enemies have been defeated. There are also platform elements and the warrior is able to wall jump and climb stairs. In other sections there are disappearing platforms and fire that gradually consumes the environment. Defeated enemies leave behind red and blue orbs. Red orbs restore small amount of health and blue orbs can be exchanged at a soul portal to purchase new moves.
The Early Access version was launched with two levels, a boss battle, five enemy types and four weapons. The weapons can be found early in the game, they each offer a different fighting style and they can be switched on the fly with 50 moves in total. There are also three challenge arenas with a specific goal. Levels are split up with checkpoints, there are secret areas and there is an unlimited amount of lives. The full version will contain eleven levels, a new core mechanic called Bushido Focus mode, dragons, additional enemies and about 100 moves.
