Qin's structure is nothing new — like its inspiration, the game unfolds as a series of lush still photos and doesn't offer players much in the way of assistance, but its authentic-looking artifacts and ambient, atonal music make it as novel an experience as attending an archaeological exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Aesthetics, aesthetics. On the whole, Qin succeeds as both entertainment and education. The adventure-gaming enthusiast who enjoys puzzles is going to like this one and so is the casual player who prefers sidetrips into the exotic. Coming out of left field - or a tomb in Central Asia, at any rate - Qin scores well indeed.

Qin is pretty to look at, but it's just old wine in a new bottle. If Myst rings your bell, you'll definitely get hours of enjoyment out of this. On the other hand, if you don't enjoy endless pointing and clicking in an environment devoid of real interaction, you'd be better off getting a taste of Chinese culture from another source.

Also the game is very short, being one of only two games I’ve ever finished in a single day. This is not necessarily a criticism. The main reason my friend and I finished it in one day is that it was so compelling we couldn’t quit playing it! I would recommend Qin for its lovely, mysterious atmosphere, intriguing content, beautiful graphics and compelling (if easy) puzzles.

This is a short but enjoyable game provided you would like to learn more about Chinese culture, art and way of life in the time of Qin. If you do you will have an informative experience, if you do not and want a fast game with a lots of action look elsewhere because you will be bored here.

The graphics are beautiful, the music entertaining and the content educational. The game is too short and easy with one really bad puzzle, but Qin is a nice dreamy, leisurely escape that I would recommend to anyone interested in the subject matter.

Anyone interested in the culture and history of China will be impressed by this product. In fact, anyone will probably be impressed by this product. But most of us do not buy games to be impressed; we buy them to have fun. As a work of art Qin succeeds masterfully. As a game, well, it leaves a lot to be desired. After the look of the game dutifully extracts an "ooooh.." from our lips, its heavy-handedness becomes wearing - not at all what we look for in a successful "explore the-empty-world chock-full-of strange-devices type game (pronounced "Myst").

Quandary (Nov, 2002)
The puzzles are a good mix of the language and culture of the Qin Dynasty, but it would be going too far to say they are integrated into the game in any meaningful sense. There is a "plot" of sorts, but it essentially bookends the game. By this I mean that except for the start and the end, the story has nothing to do (that I could see) with anything that you were doing whilst playing the game. It felt like someone told the makers after they had finished that they would sell more copies to adventure game players if it had a story, so they added "once upon a time" and "they all lived happily (or not) ever after".
