Rochard is a well designed puzzle platformer that is fun, and has enough challenge for the 7+ hours you’ll have on your first play-through, although if the achievements are to believed, you should be able to complete it in under 3 hours if you really go for it. But don’t rush through it, or you’ll miss a lot of the charm that the game has. The combat does get a bit cumbersome when there’s a lot of things to fight off, but it’s a minor complaint. For £7.99, Rochard is an absolute bargain and worthy of your time.

If you enjoyed the puzzle nature of Portal and the action of Shadow Complex, there is no reason why you shouldn’t play Rochard. Even if you didn’t particularly like those games, I feel that you should give it a shot. Not only is Rochard fun to play, it is incredibly well built and glistens with polish. Games like Rochard are proof that casual titles can be just as fun and engaging as multi-million dollar blockbusters and it’s simplicity of design and gameplay is something that players of any skill level can enjoy. Based on the experience, I think we can expect some great things in the future from Recoil Games.

Game Chronicles (Jan 07, 2012)
When it comes right down to it Rochard is a fully enjoyable action game with plenty of puzzles to work through. While not overly challenging, though some took me a few second to figure out just what to do, I can tell you I missed the three hour speed run achievement by several hours, but considering all the hidden health and weapons upgrades as well as trophies that’s one achievement that will have to come later. You can also go back and play each of the chapters individually to find any collectibles you missed. Rochard is a great adventure-puzzle game that needs to be played, and I hope that we see more of John and Skyler in the future.

Recoil Games not just ported an already good game to the PC, but they improved on it. Rochard felt it was made for the PC with the style and control scheme. It is a surprise that Rochard was not released on the PC first. The classic 2D platform style mixed with the puzzles and combat makes Rochard a perfect game for retro gamers and new aged gamers alike.

IGN (Nov 08, 2011)
Rochard is a great game to sit down with over a weekend. It took me about six and a half hours to get through, and I enjoyed the overall experience. It's certainly not a game without its issues, but it's still a great title, and at $10, it's also a total steal. Rochard isn't only a one-off experience, either. There's reason to go back for more. Collectibles and upgrades are strewn around that are easy to miss if you aren't paying careful attention, and then there's that pesky Achievement that will require you to beat the game in three hours or less. But save the speed-running for a second playthrough. Enjoy Rochard as it was intended, and let it bend your mind a bit. You won't be sorry you did.

For ten bucks, Rochard is a decent little game. There are some rather frustrating parts in both combat and the physics-based puzzles, but when the game does click, it’s actually rather clever. The art style and concept of John Rochard is very interesting, and the story, while a little bland, will keep you going to the end. Give it a shot. There’s some fun to be had.

When it comes down to it though Rochard is a short game well worth the download and adding to your gaming library, it made me smile, it made me think, it helped me get away from it all for a while, it is fun, and that my fellow Impulse Gamers, is what gaming is all about.

We liked this game a lot. It is not going to break any new ground in the genre but it is a very well designed game that is challenging and rewarding to play. Well worth getting from Steam and great value at less than $10.

CD-Action (Jan, 2012)
The misadventures of P.B.

Thunderbolt Games (Nov 23, 2011)
As a whole, Rochard is a mixed bag. If the story wasn’t so prominent and terrible, if the characters weren’t so unlikable, this could have been an amazing little experience. As it stands, it remains a mediocre representation of what could have been.

Calm Down Tom (Nov 29, 2011)
Rochard is a nice puzzler with some action thrown but it finds time to be humorous too. It’s not going to blow you away but it’s a great game for the small price of £7.99

Rochard isn’t long, it’s not the prettiest game, and it’s not really worth more than an hour of your time. You may even find it completely offensive. While attempting to create its own identity, Rochard stumbles by becoming something we’ve seen many times before. A multi-utility gun is still a gun when you’ve got bad guys shooting at you.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun (Mar 23, 2012)
Sure, it’s light fare almost to the point of being throwaway, but I enjoyed spending time in Rochard’s gravity-bending world, and I do encourage you to do the same.
