In addition to reviewing episodes 5 and 6, I was given the opportunity to investigate the earlier episodes too, and therefore I am happy to say that the quality of the games (technically, graphically, musically, plot-wise and puzzle-wise) seems to be very consistent throughout. I had a lot of fun with the wit of the eponymous anti-heroes, even unto their own self-parody late in episode 6. So if you haven’t already played any of the episodes, I fully recommend the whole of Sam & Max: Season 1. Of course, if you’ve already seen the earlier episodes, you know perfectly well by now that you’re going to buy the last two episodes, to complete the tale.

Tudo isso sem perder a qualidade e o requinte típico do adventure, o que mostra que a Teltalle está afinada com a série. Mit Reality 2.0 übertreffen sich die Macher der Sam & Max-Serie selbst, denn diese Episode ist tatsächlich noch verrückter als alles zuvor. Insbesondere Computer- und Spielefreaks werden das zu würdigen wissen, denn das 3D-Abenteuer strotzt nur so vor Anspielungen aus dem Alltag - da passt die elektronische Cyberoptik hervorragend. Allerdings müsst ihr kein Kenner der Serie sein, um den Adventure-Spaß genießen zu können. Auch ein Neueinstieg ist möglich, da jede Episode abgeschlossen ist - jedoch gehen euch dann einige Wiedersehenstränen flöten, da ihr natürlich wieder auf Sybil, Bosco und die ganze Rasselbande trefft. Spielerisch gibt es Rätsel, die nicht mehr ganz so simpel sind wie noch zuvor. Mit dem Anbringen eines Gegenstands allein ist es nicht mehr getan, da ihr den Cyberspace einsetzen müsst. Die üblichen Seitenhiebe auf das Internet, die Onlinesucht und die US-Gesellschaft gibt's gratis dazu, wenn ihr des Englischen mächtig seid.

Sadly, after completing Reality 2.0, I realized that there was just one more episode to go in the series. Man, gaming time flies when you’re having fun! But shortly, we’ll be loony with lunar laughs in episode 6, Bright Side of The Moon, the culmination of what has proved to be a triumphant comeback for both Sam & Max and point & click adventures while firmly establishing what true episodic gaming really is.

Extremely close to a five-star game—it's remarkable that Telltale can still, at this point in the series, reinvent the entire concept and create such an original and delightful adventure experience. The best episode yet; I would say that there's no way they'll do it again next month...but I already said that last month.

Sam & Max episodes will never last more than a few hours - that's just the way they're designed - and Reality 2.0 is no different. It's a little longer, a lot meatier and a lot more fun than the last four chapters, though, and the price - nine bucks direct from the publisher, or free with a GameTap subscription - is still hard to argue with. If for some reason you've been putting off playing the series up until now, then Reality 2.0 is a great reason to start.

With tons of one liners and gamer gags to spare, players need to tune in to this episode. The next one will be the season finale, but the developers will have their work cut out for them trying to top Reality 2.0.

It's easy to love a game like Reality 2.0, it tells one of the best stories in the season, it's full of laugh out loud moments, and most gamers will get a kick out of all of the classic video game references. If you've never had a chance to experience a Sam & Max game then this is a good starting point, even if it is relatively late in the season. If they could charge by the laugh then this game would cost thousands of dollars, it's that funny. These Sam & Max episodes are getting better with each passing game; it's definitely a shame that it's all coming to an end next episode.

Reality 2.0 is worth taking a break from your own reality to enjoy.
Unfortunately I can't speak about the best parts without giving away plot points or surprises. Suffice to say that the final sequence brought tears of laughter to my eyes and made me nostalgic for my gaming childhood at the same time. If the final episode keeps the magic present here and delivers a satisfying conclusion, Tellgale and Gametap will have a real winner on their hands.

Sie ist sehr kurz, sie ist nicht wirklich fordern, und sie ist herrlich albern - die fünfte Episode reiht sich perfekt in die erste Staffel von Sam & Max ein und tanzt in keinem Punkt aus der Reihe. Mir gefällt das Cyberspace-Setting vor allem wegen der zahlreichen Anspielungen auf andere Videospiele zwar etwas besser als der Wahlkampf in Folge vier, aber das ist reine Geschmackssache. Absolute Ehrensache ist dagegen: Wenn Sie schon die Vorgänger besitzen, gehört auch Reality 2.0 in Ihre Sammlung. Nach den knapp drei Stunden Spielzeit freuen Sie sich dann zusammen mit mir auf ein hoffentlich furioses Finale in Folge sechs und auf eine möglichst bald startende zweite Staffel - vielleicht ja mit etwas umfangreicheren Folgen.

It’s truly a difficult task to take a product that has a large fan appeal and a solid reputation and resurrect it successfully many years later. I have been disappointed many times before with similar games that just didn’t meet the bar set by the original game. Telltale has done a splendid job with Sam & Max, although I don’t like the episodic formula as well. However, Telltale is a business and hopefully this particular business model is bringing in profit, so they can continue to make great games.

For 8-9 bucks, I think this game is a worthwhile purchase whose entertainment value outweighs its linearity and lack of replay value. If you have played through the previous four episodes, then you owe it to yourself to work through Reality 2.0.

Reality 2.0 is a fun experience crammed with humor. I'd recommend it inexperienced gamers as well as players who are into classic adventure games. Sam & Max Episode 5: Reality 2.0 is available from GameTap as of today and will be downloadable from Telltale Games on April 12th for $8.95. So, once again, for the amount of money you pay, it's decent game overall.

Abe Lincoln Must Die! was a high point for the series in terms of humor and the first adventure to actually deliver on the promise of the initial episode. Reality 2.0 takes things a step further in terms of quality. The jokes and puzzles are much more satisfying than we've seen in the series so far. Our only complaint now is that there doesn't seem to be enough connection between the episodes. We're in the fifth of six chapters here and we still don't feel that the series is building to anything worthwhile in terms of the narrative. Even without the promise of a season-wide story arc, this adventure is well worth exploring.

Leider ist diese Folge nicht ganz so gelungen wie die letzte: Der Humor ist weniger bissig, die Spielzeit fällt kürzer aus und die Rätsel sind nicht so fordernd. Richtig enttäuschend ist diesmal aber die Gesangseinlage: Das minutenlange Gebrabbel vier altersschwacher Computer nervt mehr, als es unterhält.

Reality 2.0 se sitúa casi a la par con su antecesor, Abe Lincoln Must Die! Decir que uno es mejor que otro es meramente subjetivo, y dependerá de la susceptibilidad para reírse con la temática de cada uno, más que de cualquier otra cosa. Los dos están diseñados de manera soberbia, los dos estimulan el intelecto tanto de los aventureros casuales como de los “hardcore” y, en resumen, sendas aventuras son merecedoras de un notable alto.
If Abe Lincoln Must Die was the start of Telltale taking action on their audience’s feedback, Reality 2.0 is the continuation of this healthy practise. Little quirks throughout like the never-changing billboard atop Sybil’s store finally sporting a change (in this case, a 'cancelled due to lack of interest' notice) and a joke being made on the fact that the same calendar month had been used through the first four episodes show that Telltale are staring to truly nail the episodic nature of their series. I appreciated the little touches strewn throughout Episode 5 just as much as I did the clever parodying of a media I spend a lot of time immersed in, and so will anyone else following the series already. If you’re not, well, thanks for reading – maybe it’s about time you jumped in. The conclusion of this series looks to be its strongest point.
The puzzles are much better this time around both in quantity and quality. The first few puzzles literally solve themselves, but they have more of a relation to the end of the game. Unfortunately, the game ends all to soon and it is not as funny as Abe Lincoln Must Die either. The game is all about the hilarious gags and great voice acting (except for the annoying bunny). Keep an eye peeled for jokes placed in the backgrounds and you will end up having a great time with yet another good point-and-click adventure from the guys over at Telltale Games.

Das wurde ja auch mal Zeit, dass die Phänomene Internet und Online-Rollenspiel ihr Fett wegbekommen! Sam & Max: Reality 2.0 schafft das sowohl suptil als auch in der Holzhammer-Variante. Sicher, die Episode ist abermals winzig und die Schauplätze sind wieder enorm begrenzt, aber was wiegt das noch, wenn Dialoge, Witze - wenn einfach der ganze Rest so wahnsinnig großartig und fast schon schmerzende Wahrheit ist? Ich habe seit langem nicht mehr so befreiend über ein an sich ernstes Thema gelacht.
My overall impression of Sam & Max Episode 5: Reality 2.0 is actually very good. The main plot makes much room paying homage to the gaming community. While earlier episodes may be easily converted from a game to a television cartoon and will still be funny to watch, this episode differs in that an interactive game is really the perfect medium for enjoying this episode.

In the end, Sam and Max: Reality 2.0 goes to show that in the right hands, the adventure game genre can be massaged back to life and that you can't ever have too much of a good thing. It may not be as diverse and big as some of the other episodes, but it's certainly as funny and is proof that the Sam and Max series is maintaining the same high quality humour and presentation that we've come to expect over the years.

Sam & Max: Reality 2.0 may be the best individual episode in the series, but what it really does is validate a lot of the work leading up to it. You get the feeling that there's a good payoff planned for the end of the season. At this point, you could go back and download all of the individual episodes, but we feel comfortable saying that you should just spring for the entire season--if you haven't already. With its solid puzzle design and terrific sense of humor, this is a strong adventure series that is better if taken as a whole rather than as individual episodes that can be burned through in just a couple of hours. However, that number increases dramatically if you decide to just sit in Bosco's and click on the "hot rump" over and over again.
All in all I’m very pleased with Reality 2.0 and am very excited for episode 6 and the end of the season. There’s a lot of arguments in the webosphere about the success of episodic gaming and the Sam and Max games show that it not only can be done, but can be done well. I just hope they get back to Reality 1.0 in time to keep Max’s giant robots from destroying South Dakota!

It's witty, smoothly produced, and absorbing. It's not longer, more difficult, or a significant break from the series' established norm, but then, that's not what episodic games are about. Roll on the season finale; it's already clear that the consistent quality and swift release timetable of the Sam & Max episodes make the entire series a must play.

Reality 2.0 is definitely a step in the right direction for Telltale, with a more interesting premise, a better structure and some absolutely hilarious set-pieces to look back on. It's clear that Telltale is very much learning on the job - mistakes are still in evidence, and certain characters still provide more irritation than entertainment, but this latest episode proves more than ever that the team definitely has what it takes to come up with fantastic scenarios, wicked one liners and little moments that reaffirm why we're so interested in their progress. Apart from the predictable opening section, this is in many ways the best episode so far.

However, I'm convinced that if video games want to be taken seriously, they need to observe our world -- our current needs, desires, successes, and failures -- and have something to say about them. And these Sam and Max episodes give hope. Series creator and ringleader Steve Purcell sees video games as more than a medium to replicate, or even inform the violence and depravity we see in the real world. Purcell's willing to tackle our pop culture and politics. Though I'd like to see him do it more concretely with specifically named targets, he also does it with more verve and humor than anybody else. Most importantly, it's done in a way that's timely, entertaining, and not submerged beneath Kojima-esque pedantries.

But all transgressions are forgiven once you make it to Episode 5's finale -- a surprising, sparse, and spot-on little jaunt into "Reality 1.5" that'll likely stand as the series' landmark moment once it's bundled into a season.

Episode 5 is an interesting turning point for the Sam & Max series. What was designed to be an experiment in "episodic gaming," has become quite a successful one. Reality 2.0 can be purchased and downloaded for $8.95 (the game is free with a Gametap subscription) for about 4-6 hours of entertainment. At this point, however, we'd just as soon recommend ordering the entire six-episode "Season One" package for $34.95. On an individual basis, Reality 2.0 marks a dramatic improvement in the pure "gameplay" portion of the game, and the storyline is certainly funny enough, but we'd love to see future episodes of the series have this level of interactivity with the kinds of incredible scripts we know that Telltale Games team is capable of producing.
