But here’s the big problem. We play softball because we can’t play baseball. So, given our PC-sports fantasy druthers, we’ll bypass this in favor of a baseball sim. But if you have kids or are interested in a less serious sports game, SAMMY SOSA won’t do you wrong.
True, Softball Slam isn't supposed to be a realistic softball sim; it's aimed at the younger set. But the folks at 3DO still could have worked harder to give this shallow offering more depth.
Sammy Sosa Softball Slam simply isn’t fun to play. Over the top action based sports games succeed when the correct sport is being "simulated". This works in games such as NFL Blitz—football is great for fast paced button smashing action. Softball is slower paced and it doesn’t translate well to the computer when tossed into this "extreme" atmosphere. If you really need a softball fix—join a work league or go to the local park on a Saturday afternoon. The beer is usually free from a keg and you’ll get some sun and exercise to boot.
