Armchair Empire, The (Jun 15, 2003)
With the huge popularity of American Idol and to a lesser extent, Star Search and a plethora of similar “I-wanna-be-a-star” television shows, it’s hard to believe that it took this long for The Sims, the living simulation PC game that is the biggest-selling and most-expanded (or so it seems) PC title of all time, to have an expansion pack that lets you reach for the stars of movie, runway and music fame. The release of The Sims Superstar finally brings the quest for glitz and glamorous living to Will Wright’s Sim world, and a few new wrinkles to the basic Sims gameplay make this the series’ best expansion pack ever.
GameSpy (May 28, 2003)
Even if you're eagerly awaiting The Sims 2, you'll find plenty of reasons to pick up the Superstar expansion pack. Over a hundred and fifty new objects, new interactions and actions, and a tongue-in-cheek look into the world of entertainment make The Sims: Superstar the best expansion yet.
GameStar (Germany) (May, 2003)
GameZone (May 29, 2003)
Overall, The Sims: Superstar is well worth the monetary investment involved even if you’ve already purchased the five other expansion packs released in the last three years. The huge amount of new objects, interactions, and locations ensure that you’ll get your money’s worth out of the deal.
IGN (Jun 06, 2003)
Superstar is at once both the most rewarding and most challenging of the expansion packs to date, at least in terms of gameplay. It's a confident step in a new direction and one that I hope indicates what we can expect from The Sims 2. Still, even when measured by the old standard of merely adding new toys and diversions, Superstar scores high. The previous expansions have sold like crazy almost entirely on the basis of new features that, while compelling, still merely served as a sideline to the gameplay that was offered in the original game.
PC Games (Germany) (May 15, 2003)
The pursuit of fame and fortune adds a new level of intensity to an already overly addictive game. The Sims: Superstar is a worthwhile investment for diehard fans and newbies alike.
G4 TV: X-Play (Mar 30, 2006)
"The Sims: Superstar" is as close to a full-blown sequel as we've seen to the original "Sims," and is sure to hold most gamers over until 2004. More immediately enjoyable than "The Sims: Online," it's the type of open-ended game you can intensely play over time or just spend a few hours with here and there. With its emphasis on a more linear and fleshed-out career path, it may even win over some gamers who have been skeptical of the series. Regardless, "The Sims: Superstar" is another solid addition to the series, and it's sure to keep some of the die-hard fans living like shut-ins for months to come.
Worth Playing (Jul 10, 2003)
Overall The Sims Superstar was quite well done for the latest installment in the series, but Maxis should think about finishing the series after this title and concentrating on the sequel to the original game. The sound and graphics although nothing new was added, were still very nice and as good as any top-down game out today. From a gameplay standpoint, the game was a little on the difficult side, as it is hard to manage a sim’s life and a movie career at once, but that is part of the fun. The addition of the new items was a cool bonus as it added neat new objects to buy like the oxygen machine. In the long run, this was a very worthy add-on, and would be a worthwhile investment to any fan of the series.
GameSpot (May 27, 2003)
Maxis' unusual strategy game The Sims, which lets you control the lives of little computer people, rocketed to the top of the sales charts when it was released in 2000, and its subsequent expansion packs have done the same. And just like the others, the latest expansion, The Sims: Superstar, doesn't change the basics of the original game, or fix any of the inherent issues (it actually adds a few stability problems), but it does add enough new content to make it worthwhile. And Superstar has the added distinction of being the first truly challenging expansion pack for The Sims.
ActionTrip (May 30, 2003)
Until 2004, we can still have some fun with The Sims Superstar expansion pack and try to become more famous than Brad Pitt or Eminem, at least in the Studio Town. With one new rich location and a lot of opportunities to enter show-business, playing Superstar can be an interesting venture. Those of you who would like to see something new, and are not really hard core Sims - expansion-pack players (and preferably, not even interested in show-business), can wait for the beginning of the next year and The Sims 2. As for the fans, they have to buy this expansion pack... well, what are you waiting for?
GamingExcellence (Jul 14, 2003)
Albeit the title still suffers from many of the problems of the original game, it is evident that the intention was never to fix these issues. Nonetheless, if you are looking to pickup one or more of the Sims expansion packs, Superstar is a well-rounded selection. As a wise man once said, "rinse, lather and repeat. Always repeat." That seems to be the strategy Maxis has taken and it is surely working out for them.
Gameguru Mania (Jul 10, 2003)
After so many expansions, The Sims: Superstar is surprisingly one of the best add-on for The Sims. Those of you who have purchased the five previous expansion packs will likely find this worth buying. In other words, buy it if you still play The Sims

To end this review, I’d like to say that The Sims Superstar deserves the title of a worthy The Sims expansion but after a while you realise that not that much has changed. I was addicted once again to the Sims for about 10-15 hours, which proves Maxis still got the magic touch. Players older than 7 years can enjoy once more of the very good gameplay that the Sims offers you! Up to The Sims 2.0!

Computer Active (Sep 18, 2003)
This update is the best one yet, with a number of novel features that improve the game. For a start. you can interact in the workplace (the studios), with a rating scheme showing your ascendancy to superstardom. At last, the Sims offers something resembling gameplay.
Gamekult (May 28, 2003)
Game Revolution (May 01, 2003)
The Sims: Superstar is yet another thumbsucker meant to whet the appetites of Sims aficionados until Maxis obliterates this shallow but entertaining universe with The Sims 2. Sure, it's got plenty of new items and toys, but unless the majority of your Sims have an interest in a show biz career, this star-studded expansion is somewhat hollow and does little to bring the rosiness back into this old game's cheeks.

The sad thing is that Superstar stands up as one of the best expansions for The Sims, but as the latest in a series of six it's about as exciting as news of another Friday the 13th sequel. Although it's obvious that Maxis still has ideas (what with another expansion planned for the end of the year, and a true sequel thereafter), our patience is wearing thin, and even at £15 the cynical Superstar isn't glamorous enough to light up our lives. Buy it if you still play The Sims.
