Main menu.
You can start a regular or a modded game. Every new menu in the game opens a new movable and adjustable window.
You start on a Federation planet. Here you can buy items, ships, ship modules, get missions and even attack the planet.
You can upgrade five ship modules (guns, engines, ECM, targeting computer and ballistic missiles), however each upgrade often offers trade-off of various statistics.
Larger ships allow you to buy engines for inter-stellar travel and provide more firepower and endurance, but they also require you to hire a crew.
First order of business - get a new mission. There are several mission types (patrol, search&destroy, transfer goods), they are provided by different factions and have varying difficulties.
Map of the starting system. I'll need to travel to a different planet to find my mark. Every action takes time, which ages your character, advances the war, etc.
I've found my mark - a lone pirate!
We have the same ship type so it comes down to armament, minor tactics and lack. Each action costs AP, which can be altered by various modules.
Success! I've destroyed the pirate, claimed my reward and am now ready to loot what remains of my enemy.
But where to sell the loot? The game has a price table, which changes with time, trade and tides of war.
The quadrant map shows which stars are controlled by the Federation, the Outer Rim Alliance and the dangerous, disputed systems.
Alas, I've been accused of war crimes. Probably shouldn't have attacked that allied planet.
While I was rotting in prison there were new developments in the war.
On any planet I can visit my office and bask in the glory of my meager achievements.
Nothing to do now but retire to a lucrative life of... a slave. The more you achieve (in combat and in trade) the better your retirement will be - you might get your own planet.
