Okay, so running through dungeons may not be top on your list of things to do when you get to space, but we can think of a many less entertaining ways to spend your time than a trip through Space Siege. It's definitely action-packed, especially when playing with friends. It's just a damn-shame that Chris Taylor and his cronies at Gas Powered Games didn't get with the times and mix in a proper action-focused control scheme. We can't help but think of the serious can of cybernetic whoopass we could have opened on the Kerak if only we could circle-strafe.

Impulse Gamer (Sep, 2008)
At this point I really do not see much replay value to this the weakest addition to the Siege series. Space Siege may be for those more hard core fans that know that not every addition to a series is going to be a slam dunk blast of an adventure. Or some one looking for something new to pass the time, myself one time around with Space Siege is enough.
Jolt (UK) (Aug 22, 2008)
With so many big-name sci-fi games on the horizon, Space Siege feels more like a stop-gap until something better comes along. For the most part it’s an enjoyable if unremarkable shooter, where satisfying gunplay and alien carnage struggle to overcome a shallow plot and quirky controls. Overall it’s not a bad buy if you’re hard up for entertainment at them moment, especially if you intend to give the co-operative multiplayer a go.

Space Siege on periaatteessa mielenkiintoinen teos.
Space Siege is a decent enough game, and in the current climate of quality starved PC games it should sell a few copies. After playing it all the way through I can't help but feel however that the developers were going through the motions and the end product lacks some play-testing. The combat system is unfinished, clumsy and the computer AI is quite appalling. Tactically the game is non existent and the looting aspects of Dungeon Siege are missing. There are very limited choices in game which restrict the role playing aspect entirely. I can only moderately recommend the game if you like what you see, otherwise, avoid.
GameStar (Germany) (Aug 27, 2008)
Krawall Gaming Network (Aug 18, 2008)

Let it be clear that despite these complaints there is still some fun to be had as Space Siege ain't no slug like Harbinger for example. But if you look at the whole package then it surely ain't at least the decent Diablo-in-space we've hoped for nor is it an excellent action game by itself either, and thus I can't recommend SS at its current full price.
IGN (Aug 12, 2008)
Expectations are tricky, particularly when a developer takes a proven game concept to a new setting. We didn't want to presume too much about this "dungeon crawl in space" approach to Space Siege but many of us here at IGN are fans of the original Dungeon Siege and were cautiously hopeful about Gas Powered Games' new action RPG. While Space Siege definitely delivers the superficial experience of a classic dungeon crawl, it fails to provide the player with enough meaningful choices or variety to make it worthwhile.
Games TM (Sep 04, 2008)
(...) Space Siege is nothing more than a very modest achievement. It's perfectly functional, neatly presented, and consistently enjoyable to play, but there's nothing here to make it particularly memorable or great.
Giant Bomb (Aug 21, 2008)
Space Siege is genuinely fun for a while, but at some point in the dozen-or-so-hour campaign it became more tedious than entertaining, and I just wished there was more depth in the mechanics to hold my interest. A couple of glaring omissions didn't help matters, such as cooperative play integrated into the campaign (it's instead relegated to a series of unrelated one-off missions, launched from a really clumsy external application, that don't really go anywhere) and the ability to remap your controls at all, which, just...well, that speaks for itself. With quality dungeon crawlers like Titan Quest now going for bargain-bin prices, and Diablo III threatening to redefine this specific genre in the relatively near future, Space Siege is hard to recommend at its full asking price, but it's entertaining enough for hardcore fans of this kind of game, if you can find it at a reasonable discount.
Power Unlimited (Oct 03, 2008)
Thunderbolt Games (Sep 05, 2008)
The gameplay in Space Siege is an improvement over many of the other action RPGs that I’ve played, but the plot and the design leave a lot to be desired. I would have really appreciated if the developers tried to imagine beyond the traditional stereotypes of the space genre to create something truly unique. Unfortunately, they instead chose clichés, which sadly bring down the gameplay experience. While Space Siege is by no means bad, it is a very typical and uninspired video game.
Good Game (Aug 25, 2008)
Occasionally you’d come across a big rhino alien, or a big robot boss, or lithe assassins, and you feel like it’s gunna pick up, but it doesn’t. The last boss had a few tricks up his sleeve that proved a challenge, but it should have been like that the whole way through. I’m giving it 6/10 rubber chickens.
Space Siege has two good bits - the cool dodge move and lots of explosive environmental elements - wrapped in a thin layer of utterly forgettable content. I'd stay away from it unless the very idea of an isometric hack n' slash in space seems too good to be true.
UOL Jogos (Sep 17, 2008)
Cheat Code Central (Aug, 2008)
Overall, Space Siege is mildly entertaining, but many of its features will leave the player feeling unsatisfied. Conversely, Space Siege does manage to do some things right, such as making combat fun, which is practically a given considering how much time is spent cutting through enemies. The lack of atmosphere, tension, and urgency doesn't help either, especially since the player is supposed to feel like humanity is on its last leg. The characters fit into the common stereotypes, making them far too shallow to be interesting. In the end, Space Siege attempts to blend the Action and RPG genres, but all it manages to do is strip the best parts of both and throw what's left into a heap of cybernetic rubble, making fans of both genres equally disappointed.

ActionTrip (Aug 27, 2008)
What the developers tried to do is wrap Dungeon Siege into a sci-fi package resembling Mass Effect and have failed miserably at it. While it certainly lacks the depth and epic atmosphere of Mass Effect and similar top releases, it also doesn't live up to the rich content and immersive settings of the Dungeon Siege games. This is the first time we are honestly disappointed with the folks at GPG.
Worth Playing (Nov 24, 2008)
I'll admit that as I started going at it hardcore, I began to feel a twinge of affection for Space Siege; it had become some degree of fun to slaughter aliens wholesale for no other reason than because I could, and the controls were finally starting to sort of gel despite their oddness, but the restrictive nature of mouse-based combat with a dodge button really never sat well. (Point of order: I am a fan of games like Alien Shooter Rampage, where the player is given free motion, and this may have biased my opinions on the controls.) I've found that despite executing a number of things competently, Space Siege really has little going for it as a whole and winds up being a simply average product with an uninteresting cast, a plot full of clichés, and some confusing design decisions. This one may prove to be an appealing bargain bin title for a few hours of entertaining destruction, but only Diablo fans will feel truly at home, and they have other choices that they'll probably enjoy more.
The parts you collect from downed aliens can be used to upgrade the abilities for you and your clueless AI controlled robot companion, but the options are so limited you'd swear they took the design from the current two-party political system. Unless you're hard up for a modest retro gaming fix, don't surrender to this siege.
GameSpy (Aug 14, 2008)
Space Siege is a game that had a lot of potential, but it feels like it was never fleshed out beyond the very basics. It lacks depth, offers minimal incentive to continue playing past the first hour or two, and doesn't do anything with its online offerings that could convince you to neglect the countless other games that offer far richer multiplayer experiences. There's no reason to pick this one up unless you're desperate for something in the space milieu. If that's enough to make you happy, it may be time for you to raise your standards.
CanardPC (Sep 02, 2008)
Good Game (Aug 25, 2008)
It runs on older PCs, and it’s certainly not lacking in time, there’s more than 1 ending according to your decisions. I think that above all, it demonstrates that a moral dilemma needs to be reflected in the game’s mechanics for the player to care, rather than just the story. I’m giving it 5/10 rubber chickens.

Space Siege's timing is fascinating, however - releasing just prior to Too Human on Xbox 360, it's hard not to draw comparisons, not least because TH's original plot dealt with very similar subject matter (its title is pretty meaningless since the story switched to Thor-in-space). And also because anyone who thinks TH is a disaster really should play this (and, if it isn't too impolitic to do so, I'd include Eurogamer's TH reviewer amongst those people). While riddled with design disasters, Too Human seems like an action-RPG holy grail by comparison to this startling mess. Better yet, play Shadowgrounds: Survivor instead of the both of 'em.
GameSpot (Aug 26, 2008)
It's a shame Space Siege went in the direction it did. Gas Powered Games should be given credit for trying to infuse a genre typically defined by hacking and slashing with important moral decisions and branching gameplay paths, but ultimately failed in the final execution. It was a good idea, but it takes more than a good idea to make a good game.
46 (Sep 08, 2008)
Overall, Space Siege is quite a sad game really. I'm sure no one deliberately went out to create such a boring experience with depressing backdrops and uninteresting characters, but that's exactly what has happened. The branching storylines that were meant to display the moral quandaries that so many players wish for in games just doesn't quite work. When your options as a player are to go the human route and be weaker with no advantages, or to be cybernetic and stronger, why would you even contemplate being cybernetic? I really can't find any reason to recommend this game, it's not the worst game ever, there's simply no point in playing it unless you've played every other half decent RPG first.
Computer Bild Spiele (Sep 03, 2008)
RPGWatch (Sep 09, 2008)
None of it would matter if the game was just loads of fun to play like Alien Shooter Vengeance. In that game, it would have been a blast if you played it in a language you didn't understand, so the RPG-lite features and story were just icing on the bloody cake. But Space Siege never puts you in 'that place', where you are very powerful but still in a constant struggle for your life. Sure there is a horde of enemies around every corner, but the pacing and lousy control scheme and lack of tactics make it a dreary affair. You kill them, pick up the upgrade parts, move on, kill more, move on, kill more, and so on until you decide you've had enough for that gaming session.
