Clearly made with a lot of love, and proving that Capcom still has love for its fans despite recent snafus, Street Fighter X Mega Man is the holiday gift the Capcom fanbase needed in 2012. The incredibly low cost of entry that is "nothing at all," doesn't hurt, either. Fans of either franchise can find a lot to love in this crossover, though the action-platformer impaired may want to stick to having Ryu and Mega Man face off in their myraid Versus series appearances.
Cheat Code Central (Dec 19, 2012)
But hey—it's a fan-made Mega Man/Street Fighter crossover, complete with lots of stages and great boss fights, released for free with Capcom's blessing. It's hard to imagine anything cooler than that, and hardcore Mega Man fans will be more than willing to sink hours into mastering each and every stage, discovering tricks and secrets along the way. SFXMM isn't a bold new direction for Mega Man, but it's a terrific look back.

All in all, Street Fighter X Mega Man is a noble effort. Although a number of levels could use a lot of tweaks, and it feels unpolished at times, you really can’t go wrong with playing it, as it has a ton of heart. I wouldn’t put it above the contemporary classic Mega Man 9, but it’s a much more solid effort than the soulless Mega Man 10. With a few upgrades and an XBLA/PSN release, this could be something truly special.
Game Informer Magazine (Dec 19, 2012)
Nothing should stop you from downloading Street Fighter X Mega Man and giving it a shot. After all, it’s free. Street Fighter X Mega Man pales in comparison to the rest of the classic entries, but it’s still a wonderful test of the waters for newcomers and a charming experiment for lifelong fans. I hope to see more Capcom-endorsed fan projects in the near future.

Street Fighter x Mega Man is made by the fans, for the fans. As a celebration of 25 years of games from both Mega Man and Street Fighter, SFxMM whets your appetite for everything that made both franchises so memorable and successful. While some may feel disappointed by a free PC download in lieu of a brand new game for either series, SFxMM still comes off as a greatly enjoyable game that fans of both series’ will find a lot to love. Though it’s short and strays away a bit from traditional Mega Man games, Street Fighter x Mega Man is a great play that you honestly have little reason not to experience.

Mega Man fans want more Mega Man. Instead, they got a fun fan project that still doesn’t replace the real thing.
Destructoid (Dec 19, 2012)
Street Fighter X Mega Man is not the best or most polished Mega Man game around, but it's solid effort by a very dedicated fan. I hope it does it well enough to convince Capcom that there is life yet in this franchise. In the meanwhile, just enjoy the crossover fun for its cleverness and not its missteps.
Vandal Online (Dec 20, 2012)
Leviathyn (Dec 18, 2012)
Stepping back and looking at this overall, Street Fighter x Mega Man is a nice download and it was awesome to see it for free but if this was something you had to pay for, I’d tell you to keep your money and spend it elsewhere.
Retro Spirit Games (Dec 27, 2012)
The game does act as a nice stop gap while we wait for the forthcoming Mega Man 1 – 6 collection that will be appearing on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013. Now that is definitely something to get excited about! But before that materialises, I suggest you dust off your old NES cartridges, or buy the newer Mega Man 9 & 10 chapters if you haven't already.
