Из полена под названием “Аркадные гонки” давно невозможно выстругать что-нибудь новаторско-революционное. Как ни извращайся с формой транспортных средств, трасс и способов модернизации, содержание все равно останется прежним. TDOR 3 — добротная, веселая, аркадная гонка. Повернись время вспять (желательно, где-то на середину 97-го), я бы сказал эти же слова и о первом TDOR. Но последний NFS, в силу ряда указанных в начале обзора причин, все равно интереснее.

As with most entertainment industries, such as music, film or TV, computer gaming trends come and go. The year nineteen hundred and ninety-nine will certainly go down in the books as the breakthrough one for online RPGs, turn-based strategy games, and of course, racing titles in all shapes and forms. And we're not just talking about traditional driving sims either (such as Official F1 Racing, Rally Championship, NASCAR 3, etc.) but rather, more non-traditional racing titles with the likes of Driver, Midtown Madness, Re-Volt, Interstate '82, Star Wars Episode I Racer, Harley-Davidson: Race Across America, and LEGO Racing, to name a few.

Because sport utility vehicles are becoming more popular on the streets, it makes sense that Infogrames is trying to capitalize on its popularity with a game that lets you drive some of the coolest SUVs out there on real off-road tracks. Most SUV owners haven't even driven on bumpy roads; it'd be nice to see how their cars might actually react in extreme road conditions, such as those in this game. Unfortunately, Test Drive: Off-Road 3 demanded a lot more attention to detail than its developers actually invested.

Igrajmo se matematike. Krenimo od 100%. Za neproširivanje koncepcije u odnosu na EA igre, oduzimam 5%. Za nepostojanje multiplayera, dodatnih 10%. Za katastrofalnu fiziku, još 10%. Za smiješnu grafiku, 10%. I još po 2% za monotonu mjuzu (iako potencijalno dobru) i za manjak multiplayera. I znam da sam to već napisala.

Anyone that has gotten behind the wheel of a car knows what it feels like to drive on the road at 45MPH in their city or suburbs. Sure, they will hop into their expensive $36,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee or $32,000 Oldsmobile Bravada sport utility vehicles and just drive on the roads, when the real existence of these SUV's call for extreme rigid, tight, unbalanced, unpaved, and simply crazy off-road conditions. Most racing games just depict racing on a paved road or dirt road that is flat around a circuit that continually laps around in circles. Sometimes, that is just not exotic enough to simply get into a fantasy Aston Martin and rev up to 170MPH around a track. There is need for some different types of running around the world in a totally different vehicle or different location. Going off the roads and into the rocky and hilly terrain of the wilderness or forests. This is what Test Drive Off-Road 3 shoots to do.
Everything about this title smacks of greed and laziness. Nevertheless, Test Drive Off-Road 3 shows the barest hint of promise for the series. If the developers choose to put a little time and thought into the inevitable follow-up, rather than try to get it out the door as quickly as possible, there may be life in the series yet.

As the reviewer of countless racing titles at the Adrenaline Vault, I have been getting one particular plea from fans: More and more of you want to be released from the confines of narrow tracks and be able to drive wherever you want. Many of you have asked for a list of all the offerings in which you can do just that, and there are precious few. Although Microsoft has made the greatest effort in this direction with its extensive Madness series of racing titles, the longest running off-road racing product line is Accolade and Infogrames' Test Drive Off-Road franchise, the latest of which is the newly released Test Drive Off-Road 3.

Wo die beiden Vorgänger noch mit fantasievollen Pisten für das schwache Fahrmodell entschädigen konnte, präsentiert Off-Road 3 nur noch eintönige Schluchten und glatte Flächen. Die Steuerung ist wie eh und je vollkommen gefühllos ausgefallen, nicht einmal an ein Schadensmodell wurde gedacht.
