Lofty expectations just may be too difficult to overcome and for me to handle. Or it could be that the developers of Pompei did not feel the need to extend the art of making historical adventure games beyond what had been accomplished previously. In any case, the result for me was that Pompei was a good game-playing experience, enjoyable from many perspectives, but not up to the high standards set by Faust or most recently by TLJ. So ... permit me to explain my impressions about what worked well in Pompei and what didn't quite measure up to my hopes or satisfy my expectations.

Timescape: Journey to Pompeii is a unique blend of an enjoyable game with a great deal of educational value. However, unlike Beyond Atlantis, it balances these two parts very well and does not force either down your throat. If you simply wish to have an enjoyable adventure, that's fine; and if you merely want to learn about the Pompeii and its citizens, that's possible too. Personally, I found a blend of the two to be the most enjoyable.

Pompei ist ein historisches Adventure im Stil von Egypt 1. Es ist ein reines Adventure, doch kann man in diesem Spiel an diversen Stellen durch falsche oder zu langsame Handlungen sterben. Das Spiel setzt an diesen Stellen nicht automatisch wieder ein. Hat man nicht kurz vorher gespeichert, muss man ein ganze Stück wieder von vorne spielen.

TimeScape: Journey to Pompeii does have some graphical drawbacks (such as the pixilization of elements if you get too close to them), but they aren't enough to detract from the gaming experience itself. There is nothing here that would present problems to anyone. This is family-oriented entertainment, a rich adventure tale that will have players spending, well, days of discovery in the doomed city.

Un gioco indubbiamente interessante sia per le premesse che per l'epoca in cui si svolge. Bella e a volte spettacolare la grafica, ma il gioco ne suo insieme appare piuttosto statico e freddo, insomma non riesce a coinvolgere molto.

Timescape: Journey to Pompeii won't go down as a major achievement in the annals of adventure gaming, but then again it never really aspires to. What it does manage to do is keep you interested from start to finish, and if you can overlook the decidedly spartan production values, then that's probably enough to make it more than worth the asking price.

To sum up: From this marvelous idea one could have made a gigantic adventure game - I'm dreaming about Atlantis 1 still - with a more branched and through that suspenseful storyline and more and generously stretched locations. But nowadays unfortunately the budget for adventure games doesn't support such expense. Money probably to a large extend flows into complex 3D graphics, while other important things to constitute a good adventure are neglected. Thus the game can be arranged in the series: Aztec, Dracula, Vikings and so on.

Pompeii is a game to be lingered over. It is not a game to be played simply to find Sophia and escape. To get everything out of it, you need to stop and look and - dare I say it - perhaps even learn. An interest in history and this period in particular would be a bonus. As such, it won't be for everyone, and if you are looking for the next Faust you won't find it here. However if you hanker to experience a bygone age, and solve a few puzzles whilst you are at it, you will be well rewarded.

Pompei est le premier volet de ce qui aurait du être au départ une trilogie (dont le second volet sera Jérusalem : Les trois chemins de la ville sainte). Reprenant le procédé qui avait été un tel succès avec Versailles, Egypte et autres, ce jeu vous propose, au travers d’un contexte historique (ici, la destruction de la ville par le Vésuve) de vous en apprendre plus sur les us et coutumes de l’époque, tout en mêlant l’éducatif à un jeu d’aventure classique.
In the end, Pompei: The Legend of Vesuvius has left me feeling a bit flat after playing it. There are some highlights, but also too many lowlights. The puzzles are far too easy for a seasoned adventure gamer. Moreover, the game can be completed in just 8-10 hours. I cannot personally recommend the game, but I feel gamers who are also students can gain valuable knowledge from playing the game, if not for education than for historical curiosity.

Что же касается Софии... не волнуйтесь, наш герой найдет ее. Излечит, болезную, от жуткой амнезии, спасет из лап нехорошего помпейца по имени Статиус, а потом умотает вместе с ней из города за пару часов до извержения, в память о котором 1921 год спустя некая фирма Cryo слабает самую серую, занудную и скучную игру в своей истории. Вот вам и весь драматизм, господа.
TimeScape provides a moderately well-done graphical landscape, combined with a great deal of historical research into the ancient city of Pompeii. The tedious dialogue, combined with the extreme linearity of the game, and the overdone tendency to "die" without warning, contribute to my low review of the game.
I expected Pompei to be more of an adventure, not just another Cryo historical drama. Why? Because of the involvement of the talented team at Arxel Tribe. But even as an addition to Cryo's historical drama series, Pompei disappoints in virtually every department.

Aceptables gráficos, música y poco más, en una aventura que no satisface y que no es nada recomendable para los que busquen diversión a raudales.
Unless you're just so fascinated with the subject that you don't mind slow, silly, illogical gameplay, I advise against a purchase of Timescape. Indeed it was nice to wander around in ancient Pompeii, but you can do that in half an hour under the "visit mode." You also might read a book instead of playing this tedious game. I finished it, because having started the thing I was determined to finish it. I also wanted to see the spectacular animation of Pompeii's destruction in the final cutscene. Even that proved to be less than spectacular. A few of those 3D puppets running and being hit by falling columns, a crude animation of Vesuvius erupting that looks like a shot from a Saturday morning cartoon show, and that's it. Not worth the wait, not worth the plodding gameplay, not worth the time, not worth the money.
