Description

Triennale Game Collection is a collection of five games created for the La Triennale di Milano, a design and art museum in the Parco Sempione in Milan, in Lombardy in northern Italy. More specifically, the game were created for the XXI Triennale International Exhibition that ran between 2nd April and 12th September 2016 with the theme 21st Century. Design after Design. The games are self-contained and could originally only be played there, but eventually they were are also made available for a worldwide audience in this collection. All five titles can be accessed right away.

  1. Il Filo Conduttore presents a scene with objects. There is an overhanging cord and interacting with it is largely the only way to influence the scene. This is done in different ways, by pulling it, throwing it, stretching it or using the string for a different purpose. With each successful interaction changes to the scene are made, introducing new objects or removing them, or introducing new options. Typical objects include fruit, a cup, balls and a rocket.

  2. L.O.C.K., short for Loci Omnes Caelesistis Kyries, is an experimental exploration of the universe based on the outdated Christian cosmology which places the Earth, and thus humans, at the center of the universe. The player gets to explore twelve heavenly spheres where Earth at the centre. Interaction is done by dragging circles in the middle of the screen. Dragging counterclockwise travels outwards, while clockwise travels inwards.

  3. Neighbor lets the player control a sombrero-wearing character who lives in a crater in an experimental house. He is moved around by clicking and dragging an object to guide him. By pointing it at certain locations, the character will automatically interact with it. For instance picking up objects and using them elsewhere, meditating, offering or getting supplies. It is up to the player to figure out which interactions are possible. Often there are different options to choose from, presented through text. The game has a day-and-night cycle.

  4. A Glass Room is based around pictures and animated sequences from the author Pol Clarissou's own life. The flickering photographs are presented as if projected on virtual walls. There are different narratives to explore for each picture as a device is superimposed and can be turned through holding and rotating a double dot. This distorts the images, superimposes additional images or introduces or alters sound effects. Additional dots are used to move on to new images.

  5. The Worm Room is a linear walk using a first-person perspective through a series of endless glass greenhouses. It simulates visiting a botanical garden. Pointing is used to travel and move forward. At any moment it is possible to look around in any direction. It is also possible to switch to a different camera view.
