As derivative and uninspired as WarPath’s premise of sci-fi deathmatches, base assaults, and capture-the-flag contests is, the game still succeeds on a basic level.

Playfuls (Aug 07, 2006)
The implementation of destructible vehicles is more than welcomed, but the pleasure is sabotaged by an improper design of the battle arenas, twisted, narrow and thus not allowing an efficient control (I already know the analogy you'll make, who doesn't recall UT2004's Onslaught mode). Most of the time, the lack of space brings about real "traffic jams", solved only by firepower. The rides become the key element in the unwanted change of pace.

Gamers who are looking for a serious, story driven game should avoid Warpath like the plague, but if you are looking for an unsubtle shooter with big explosions and relentless action, it might just be worth a few quid out of your pocket.

In the end, Warpath misses the mark on a number of levels. AI is some of the worst you'll find in a shooter, the design is uninspired, and the gameplay reeks of half a dozen other titles. WarPath tries so hard to be other games that there's no room left for innovation or more than five hours worth of enjoyment. Even for a competitively-priced title, it's a waste.

GameSpot (Jul 27, 2006)
So, with all that said, the answer to the question posed at the beginning is, ultimately, no. Warpath, while not devoid of enjoyable qualities, doesn't have enough going on in either the multiplayer or single-player departments to really be worth your time or money. The multiplayer definitely can be fun, and at the relatively cheap price of $20 on the PC and $30 on Xbox, those in serious need of a new FPS for their chosen platform could find Warpath entirely tempting. But considering the number of multiplayer FPSes currently available on both platforms that not only retail comparably, but also manage to provide both a compelling online community and a single-player campaign that's actually worth playing, Warpath looks rather perfunctory by comparison.

IGN (Jul 25, 2006)
While WarPath doesn't do anything blatantly wrong, it fails to do anything new. Charging through the repetitive metallic halls of each level will feel very familiar to anyone who's played a lot of first person shooters. Even the bots on the hardest difficult suffer from noticeable A.I. issues, so if this one's to be played at all it should be online. After numerous hours of play some weapon balance issues will become apparent, especially with the Vibro Blade during close range battles. Vehicles are included, but they're generally useless as the stages are so small. A larger variety of game modes more interesting maps would have helped out, but ultimately WarPath does little too differentiate itself from the rest of the shooters out there. The upgradeable weapons are a good feature, but nothing that'll hold players' interest beyond a few hours.

Warpath is a budget game that doesn't look too bad, but with unconvincing gameplay. Maybe it could interest you for some hours, but this probably isn't a game you want to buy.

But with nothing new to offer, lousy single-player, and virtually no one to play against, there's not much really being offered here at all. Admittedly the multiplayer-focused FPS has been a declining sub-genre as first-person storytelling has taken great strides in recent years. But even when compared with aging games like Unreal Tournament 2004, there's not much incentive to choose Warpath. Ultimately I would rather play an ambitious game that only half succeeds than one than generic one which hopes only not to stumble. But for those craving something new that isn't quite, this is still at least a solid product. If some people actually start playing, there could be hope for it yet.

Ahmet might have enjoyed himself, but I found Warpath a waste of my time. I'm glad I didn't part with my cashola for what is a rehash of the games mentioned in the opening paragraph. With more players I'm sure it will hold up against the big boys of the run-and-gun multiplayer world, certainly looking better than most. But without the players to fill the rooms, Warpath is pretty much meaningless. Ahmet, wherever you are my love, I miss you. Although this is a bit unfair as the servers were empty.

Quite simply, WarPath is a mess. With terrible gameplay, bland graphics, forgettable sound, a whole host of technical issues, and a lifespan shorter than the manhood of a poorly equipped midget, there is little to savour from this game. Some may find a bit of life in the online mode, but with very few players online as I write and with such inferior gameplay to most other shooters around, there really is no saving grace for WarPath. This game is less WarPath, more WarPathetic.

A éviter.
