The Witcher 3 is probably the best open-world RPG ever made, but it still falls prey to some of the genre's worst traps.

I have trouble thinking of a reason to not recommend this game to people. Even if you aren’t a fan of the fantasy genre, the characters and world will no doubt draw you in given just a couple hours. If you’re looking for a time sink, there is so much to explore and do that you can easily spend a couple hundred hours without exhausting your options. And there is plenty of replayability with the difficulty options, forcing you to change the way you spec Geralt, and potentially changing your tactics. There are bugs here and there, but the game is being patched on a fairly regular basis. It’s just about impossible for a game of this size to be bug-free *cough* Bethesda *cough*, and with as few as I’ve encountered, I can’t really say it’s a reason to wait. Unless Persona 5 comes out this year, it’s pretty safe to say this will be my undisputed GotY.

A monumental achievement of staggeringly aching beauty, the Witcher III stands proudly as the greatest video game of all time, regardless of genre. Geralt's final, epic ride, is the high water-mark by which all future games will be judged and found lacking. Indeed, it's only disadvantage is that it completely ruins every other title on the market right now by nailing every single aspect of game design with almost supernatural clarity and perfection. If you play one video game in your life, make sure it's this one.

The Witcher 3 on PC looks absolutely wonderful, particularly if you have a reasonably powerful machine and can see the game in motion at its highest settings.

This is the new standard for open world role-playing games. There is no such thing as a perfect game, but The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt come as close to perfect as any RPG to date.

Quarter to Three (Jun 16, 2015)
It raises the bar on story and personality so much higher than its been for RPGs. After spending some time as Geralt, it’s tough to shake the sense that being Commander Shepard, The Dragonborn, or even a Jedi Knight is so much less exciting than simply being a monster-hunter in fantasy Poland. Saving the universe is nothing compared to the look you’ll get when you confirm someone’s worst fears.

Not without a few issues, The Witcher 3 is still a towering achievement for CDPR and is one of the best RPGs in years.

DarkZero (Jul 04, 2015)
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is more than just an incredible game that successfully brings lush visuals, tactical combat and a captivating world untainted with the issues that games of similar nature have when building such huge open spaces. It is also a respectful closure for Geralt, the series and its fans.

What CD Projekt Red has done here is make the defining CRPG of a generation. An antidote to the forced and contrived drama found in *other* so-called “mature” and “adult-themed” RPGs. A game that doesn’t spend its time tokenizing homosexuals or shoehorning in an elven woman that looks like a meth addict and call it “inclusive” because she is hideously ugly to appeal to god knows who for god knows what reason. No, what these wonderful Poles have done is make a game that has adult situations that make sense and stir up real emotions without resorting to the thin and plastic-like motivations other triple-A developers seem content to resort to. The fact that I sat crying in front of my screen after the Keira Metz quest line and debated quitting the game forever stands as proof of that.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ends Geralt’s tale in spectacular fashion, finding ways to fill a giant world with thrilling combat, beautiful sights, and a bevy of compelling content. A strong conclusion to The Witcher trilogy, and a masterpiece that will keep you enthralled for weeks and months to come.

Though the straightforward and fetch-quest-heavy main story overstays its welcome, the option of joyfully adventuring through a rich, expansive open world was always there for me when I’d start to burn out. Even if the plot isn’t terribly interesting, the many characters who play a part in it are, and along with the excellent combat and RPG gameplay, they elevate The Witcher 3 to a plane few other RPGs inhabit.

For a game boasting all of the political treachery and turmoil common in the genre, The Witcher 3 succeeds because it puts people first. More compelling than Geralt’s lofty, heroic journey are the stories about the humdrum, circumstantial horrors of the helpless as they watch their world crumble. I’m looking forward to returning to The Northern Realms and visiting all of its villages and ruins. That’s where the heart of The Witcher 3 lies: not in its hero, but in the complicated world it brings to life.

Gaming Age (May 25, 2015)
Still, despite some evident flaws, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a game you should be playing. It’s one of the few open-world RPG’s that manages to excel at not only giving you an expansive world to explore, but at also giving you plenty to do within that world. And those activities manage to go above and beyond what I’ve come to expect out of open-world games nowadays, RPG or otherwise. It’s also worth noting that CD Projekt RED has already shown a commitment to working on issues and cleaning up various technical problems with a few patches already out and available. So while The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt might not be a flawless RPG, it’s certainly one of the best in the genre, and absolutely not one to be missed.

Ten Ton Hammer (Jun 05, 2015)
The Witcher III is worth the full retail value and you will get well over 40 hours of gameplay out of it if you set the game to the lowest difficulty and only grind away at the main quest, however, there is well over 80 hours of content in the base game (more if you up the difficulty) and with the DLC missions, contracts, and the purchasable DLC expansions to the game there is so much more coming. The Witcher III is very similar to Red Dead Redemption, in terms of story and size, and choice finally truly has consequence - there is rarely someone who you will deal with where your actions don't impact their future and possibly yours.

Games Finder (Jul 12, 2015)
The sheer amount of content that The Witcher 3 offers (in excess of 150 for a full complete) make it worth the dollars alone. Once you factor in the dark story, beautiful landscape and the little touches of detail around the corner the game should be an instant buy.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a stupendous achievement for CD Projekt Red. This is a studio rich in love for the RPG genre, and it shows. With each consecutive release, their craft has been finer and finer tuned. If Wild Hunt is any indication, the next game from the Polish band of gamers will be something to behold. Most of you are probably already playing Wild Hunt and loving it. If for some reason you’re on the fence, hop off and go to your favorite gaming retailer now. This is not one you want to miss. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt an absolute classic.

The Witcher 3 is a fitting end for the saga from CD Projekt Red. It's also the most accessible title in the series and manages to delight through most of its mechanics, especially the huge open world. While the main storyline doesn't exactly live up to expectations and it has quite a few smaller annoyances, it's still a blast to play and should offer hundreds of hours of enjoyment to any RPG fan.

Cheat Happens (May 29, 2015)
The Witcher 3 may not be perfect but it is one hell of an interactive experience. It’s at it’s best when you’re off the beaten path carving your own story but it’s compelling regardless. Fans of western RPGs will want to try their hand at The Witcher’s epic final conclusion, it’s right up there with the best in the series and genre.

Polygon (Mar 15, 2015)
The result is still a game that often feels like a stunningly confident, competent shot across the bow of the open world genre, folding in an incredibly strong narrative and a good sense of consequence to the decisions that present themselves throughout, presenting a fun bit of combat creativity into a genre that desperately needs it. With that going for it, The Witcher 3 is a great game though it isn't a classic — and it can carry a somewhat qualified recommendation.

I've made it pretty clear that it's hardly a flawless game, but that doesn't change the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something pretty bloody special and you should absolutely play it.

Game Critics (Jul 30, 2015)
So, despite its overlong running time and the malaise that delayed this review, it has to be said that I did enjoy my time with The Witcher 3... but not enough to return to it any time soon, nor to be interested in with any of the upcoming downloadable content. Given that the game already has too much content in its vanilla release, it's more refinement that I'd like to see now—and to be fair, few developers offer post release support like CD Projekt Red do. In this massive adventure the good largely outweighs the bad, but it's a shame that they're so closely intertwined from start to finish.

The Witcher 3 is an intriguing but deeply flawed action-RPG with an unnecessary sandbox taped on.
