The Wizard
- The Wizard (1983 on BBC Micro)
Description
Life as a wizard is not easy. You wake up and someone stole your face. But, as in many Wizard's world, there is a dungeon in which you can find the thief and your face. Although, of course, the dungeon is filled with monsters.
The Wizard is a turn-based game, in which you guide your wizard through the levels of the dungeons, in search of new spells to cast to ease the way to the deeper levels of the dungeon. Casting spells is done by drawing them on a 8 field grid around your character: each spell has a unique pattern, and also a direction. So you can cast, for example, a magic missile in four directions by simply rotating the pattern. Killing enemies gains experience points, and levelling up gains a point to extend the power or range of your spells. There are offensive spells damaging opponents, as well as control spells like slowing enemies. As enemies often have far more actions per round than yourself, control is very essential.
The story is told by pictures and text, and there are three different difficulties to play the game.
