World Cup is a football game where you and seven friends can pick one of 10 teams and compete to get to the final and win it. The computer will play as the other teams not selected. The match action is viewed from the side above the pitch and the screen shows just a part of the pitch. The screen scrolls when a player moves with the ball. A joystick or keyboard can be used to control your team.

The C16 version just has two teams playing each other with a two player option.

World Cup Carnival

The re-release version by US Gold was initially planned as an in-house title, however time constraints after a failed first attempt forced them to acquire Artic's World Cup, and fit the game with licensing tags and 'feelies' including a badge and wallchart, to release the game in time for the competition.

Although one of US Gold's biggest ever sales successes, their reputation was not helped by the game. Amstrad Action magazine gave it 0%, and other reviews were highly negative. On forums such as Lemon64, the US Gold game has a much lower rating than World Cup, despite being all-but identical.
