Not only is the overall CD a parody, the games are parodies as well. You’ll recognize outer space–themed versions of Pac-Man, Centipede and You Don’t Know Jack (using “X-Files” trivia). After you’ve accessed most of the items, you’re rewarded with the key to the evidence locker, where you can view top-secret materials. You can also take a shortcut by getting the password from the company’s Website, where there are other games and jokes to download. This is a unique and interesting diversion for “X-Files” fans. But if you’re not a fan, the CD won’t make one of you.

Since it will be some time before Fox Interactive releases its X-Files adventure game, you may, if you are a devoted fan of the show, think that The X-Fools just might tide you over until then. But unless you are a complete fanatic, forget it; this parody is so lukewarm, it will make you grateful that the actual show, as several episodes have demonstrated, is far more skillful at poking fun at itself.
