Xbox Fitness is an app for the Xbox One console connected to an online service that provides access to different types of fitness programs by many different trainers that were previously available as video workouts. These app introduces an overlay over the videos, providing interactivity and tracking the player's performance through Kinect. When starting the app many types of fitness programs can be chosen, each with a different instructor, targeting a certain area of the body or for a specific type of workout. Some of the programs are available for free when the user pays for the Xbox Live Gold service and the app itself is free until December 2014 for Xbox Live Gold owners. There are also videos that need to be paid for separately.
The app keeps detailed statistics of the workouts and progress over time. While the fitness video is playing the remaining time is shown at the bottom of the screen. On the right hand side a separate section is provided. It shows an avatar visualizing the player's posture and movement. There are circles around the feet to mark weight transfer, glowing lines around the arms when they move, and muscles glow when they are used to signify tension. Each video is broken up into smaller sections with a countdown timer. Surrounding the timer a circular bar fills up with different colours to show the player's performance while points are building up, making available badges that have the player level up over time. If a section is complete before time runs out, a score multiplier is activated with up to five stars. When the section is complete, a new one is started. The game is also able to measure the player's heart rate. Periodically during workouts challenges pop up which pit you against the average score for others in your same age group.
