While the game is lacking the survival horror element that was introduced in the last entry, it is a well-made shooter worthy of any gamer’s collection; especially those of us who are familiar with the original’s brand of ultra-violence.

There is plenty to like in DOOM. Shoot everything that moves, a simple concept that doesn’t try to be more than it is. The large campaign, multiplayer options and SnapMap levels mean that there is always plenty to do, and the variety of different difficulty levels mean that every type of player is catered for here. And above everything else, it is limb-wrenching fun. Everyone who enjoys shooters should be playing DOOM.

As one Bethesda employee put it: "If you're not into violent, bloody games… DOOM's probably not a game for you". For everyone else, it’s impossible not to recommend trying the title. The campaign is where DOOM really shines with its fast-paced, slick, brutally bloody and exhilarating action that mixes old-school gameplay with modern design. The multiplayer is solid if not spectacular, but that may change in time once the game’s community begins to experiment with the creation tools in SnapMap. DOOM is back and it’s hellishly good.

If heavy metal music had a physical representation in videogame form it would be DOOM. If that statement excites you then this game is for you. If you are looking for a fantastic multiplayer experience I would suggest you look elsewhere. While it is entertaining in the short term, there isn’t much meat on that bone.
