games xtreme (Nov 20, 2014)
With numerous hidden easter-eggs, new content, shiny new-gen technology and a host of gameplay tweaks rolling around the game, it would be remiss of me not to award it the highest marks possible - this game sets the bar for remasters and old-gen to new-gen gaming. Seriously. It would have been easy for R* to take the easy way out and just pop a texture pack onto the thing, calling it a job done. Nope, not them, they went the extra 1000 miles it takes to produce GTA V for the new-generation and: job done!

Grand Theft Auto 5 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is a masterwork for all the same reasons mentioned in our original Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 review. Its world is a truly astonishing achievement in so many ways, and these two versions are currently the best way to experience it, aside from the hobbled multiplayer matchmaking. If you missed GTA 5 before, it’s absolutely a game that has to be played. Whether it’s worth buying a second time is entirely dependent on whether you’re interested in replaying the same game again – and only you can answer that. But I’m glad to have had a reason to revisit it, and am happy to find it even more impressive than it was before.

The game was already one of the best games ever made, and the improvements for the new gen only improve on perfection. It is incredibly massive and varied, and looks absolutely sublime on the Xbox One and PS4. Any new gen console owners who haven’t already dipped their toes into GTA V would do well to pick up a copy. For those who already have the game on the previous consoles, the improved graphics, gameplay tweaks and first-person mode only add a glossy veneer to what is essentially the same game, and the additional purchase will be something that each player has to come to terms with. For me though, it is a no brainer. There can never be too much GTA V.

Grand Theft Auto 5 on the new platforms is a great comeback for the already impressive game. The first-person view mode, the enhanced visuals, and the many different smaller alterations transform the game into an even better experience. However, lingering problems with the gameplay and a few visual issues keep it from achieving perfection.
CD-Action (Jan, 2015)
