A stunning return to form for the annual football franchise – and one of the finest all-round Madden packages in years.
IGN (Aug 01, 2018)
Madden 19 returns the primary focus where it belongs: that moment-to-moment gameplay between the end zones. It’s only true stumbling point is the lackluster story mode that fails to recapture the magic of the first, but that's entirely offset by the new player handling that once again leverages the power of the Frostbite engine. Most importantly, Madden 19 has finally cracked that slightly repetitive feel that can make it tough to go on, game after game. With Real Player Motion delivering a fluid on-the-field experience, and Franchise mode customization offering another level of realism, Madden is in a great place.

Way Too Many Games (Aug 29, 2018)
This is the first Madden in a while where I felt it wasn’t worth the upgrade. There just isn’t enough new or upgraded in Madden NFL 19 to warrant a full game purchase. Between the various bugs, glitches, and scaled back modes along with cut mechanics from Madden 18, and only introducing Real Player Motion and celebrations, there isn’t much of a reason to buy in. I’d stick to Madden 18 for now until you can find ’19 on sale.

It's usually unfair to say an annual sports game is the same as last year's, but for the first time in a while, it feels more appropriate with Madden NFL 19. Small changes across Franchise, online play, and MUT will be welcome by yearly diehards of the sport and the game series, but they ultimately don't feel important enough to make the game an easy recommendation. On top of that, the third pillar of the game, its story mode, is so bad that it feels quite disappointing to think of how much better that time and money could've been spent. On the field it's still a fun game as always, but for the first time in a long time, it feels like little more than a roster update.
