For fans of Lovecraftian horror, The Sinking City is filled with... fishy details and lore that is used to enrich the world that Frogwares has created. Private Investigator Charles Reed must voyage through the deepest and most disturbing parts of his mind, as well as Oakmont itself, to find a way to rid the town residents of their visions. Doing what he does best, Reed must investigate and solve crimes while battling the horrors that jump out from the dark. While it lacks a bit of polish, The Sinking City is an otherwise weird and mind-bending journey, bundled with all the ingredients for a great experience.

A rich theme and atmospheric world shine through forgettable gameplay.

Spazio Games (Jun 25, 2019)

Despite featuring elements from many video games that I love, The Sinking City still fell flat for me.

Through solid world design and intelligently structured detective mechanics, The Sinking City provides a commendable basis for its intriguing adventure. The game is every bit as seemingly interesting as it is unique, and makes for a strong story that knows how to toy with perception. It’s a damn shame that it sits in the midst of so many technical drawbacks, so many bugs, and so many poor design choices. This, is squandered potential at its finest.

It’s very hard to call The Sinking City a “good game,” all things considered, but it was definitely a game worth making. Keep an eye out for future improvements and hopefully someday it’ll be a game worth playing.

You'll rise from the murky depths of The Sinking City wondering whether you should have bothered getting wet in the first place.

The Sinking City’s engrossing premise is ultimately betrayed by counterintuitive systems and bleak monotony.

Big Boss Battle (B3) (Jul 17, 2019)
Charles Reed, former US Navy diver turned private investigator, has been having strange dreams and visions of giant, horrifying creatures beneath the sea. After some time, he determines that the town of Oakmont, Massachusetts may have some answers and he finds himself arriving at the town via boat. He quickly discovers that this place has been subjected to seemingly unnatural rain storms, flooding many parts of the settlement and turning Oakmont into something of a gradually sinking city. The rainstorms aren’t the only unnatural things that seem to exist here though, and Charles will need to work hard to survive, let alone discover the cause of his own maladies.
