Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is a good upgrade to the original game, managing to drastically improve its visuals over the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. While PC owners won't find that many upgrades, the game is still quite worth the investment for its stellar story. Bear in mind that the combat and the camera issues are still present.

For those who missed out on Sleeping Dogs two years ago, the title is correct: this is the definitive version. Unfortunately, those who already visited the compressed streets of Hong Kong will have almost no incentive to go back. All of the downloadable content that was slowly rolled out post-launch is included here, but they’re not worthy of your time to begin with. The upgraded visual effects add to the overall atmosphere of the fantastic brooding story, and the action packed combat will have you coming back for more, even though the driving mechanics will take some time to get used to. While the landscape for open world action titles has changed drastically over the last two years, somehow Sleeping Dogs remains a diverse and highly impactful experience.

God is a Geek (Oct 09, 2014)
Despite such middling visual complaints, an incredibly playable game remains just that on current gen, maintaining its slightly broken charm and presenting a huge, sprawling adventure with DLC that extends the already impressive runtime by several hours. Definitive Edition is not quite an essential purchase – especially if you already played and finished the original release – but it’s definitely worth picking up if you’re hankering after the kind of open world criminal action that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Despite its quirks and flaws, Sleeping Dogs remains an improbably fresh take on the open world action formula. And I’m rooting for a sequel that expands upon its unusual setting and irons out the lingering issues that continue to plague the action. But I don’t see how this Definitive Edition of the original is going to advance that cause.

The Escapist (Oct 09, 2014)
Still a very good game, but it's on the more pointless end of the rerelease spectrum, and they really should have fixed those bugs.
