AceGamez (2004)
The perfect balance between our ability to concentrate for certain periods of time and the length of each race really adds to an incredibly polished title. What with the totally aggressive but fun gameplay, the sheer madness of the speed at which you drive, the incredible quality of the foreground, background and moving visuals and the pumping soundtrack to run alongside it, you'd be a fool not to have Burnout 3: Takedown in your collection. Even if the only games you usually play are RPGs or first person shooters, I can guarantee you will have fun with this game and come back to it again and again while other old favourites gather dust on your shelf.
Gamestyle (Apr 25, 2006)
Racing games have now changed forever, and entirely for the better - for that there can be no higher recommendation. It's that good.
100 (Sep 13, 2004)
With all of that being said, I think it is a pretty safe bet that I am going to recommend this to anyone looking for a new game. I don't care if racing games appeal to you or not, Burnout 3 is a game to own. Burnout 3 adds a few simple concepts to the world of racing games and blows the competition away. I can honestly say that this is the best racing game I have ever played and the bar has been set so high that it will take a lot to knock Burnout 3 off the top spot. So without further delay, get yourself to the store and buy Burnout 3. You will thank me right after you take your Tuned Coupe into a crowded intersection and cause an accident that would make worldwide headlines.
Operation Sports (Sep 16, 2004)
Basically, "Burnout 3: Takedown" achieves what it sets out to do: set online racing on fire by redefining the arcade racer. The offline modes are phenomenal, and the online ones are even more addicting. Let those friends of yours keep their “lines” and “throttles”: in “Burnout 3” all you need to worry about is driving fast, having fun, and checking to see who’s going to take you out next.
100 (GAF) (Sep 18, 2004)
In conclusion, Burnout 3 is truly a fantastic game. In my opinion, the Crash events alone would be worth the $50 it costs. There are a huge amount of cars, awards, events, locations, etc. to unlock. The graphics and sound are superb, and the amount of detail is amazing. I could go on and on. If you like racing, buy this game now. If you don't like racing, I recommend at least renting Burnout 3 and giving it a try. You might like this style of racing, and if not, you can always have fun creating huge crashes.
Gaming Age (2005)
All I can say is that Burnout 3 is damn near flawless in almost every way shape and form. Brilliant visuals, ear pleasing audio, highly addictive game play, and enough modes and tracks to keep you busy for months on end. If you do not own Burnout 3 by now, you are letting one of the best, if not the best, arcade racer pass you buy.
GamePro (US) (Sep 24, 2004)
The Burnout series was one of the unsung heroes of the racing world, always finishing a distant third when placed against such high rollers as Need For Speed and Midnight Club. But now, the series could finally get the notoriety it deserves?not just for its new publisher, but because Burnout 3: Takedown is a remarkable improvement over its predecessor?not to mention the best arcade racer of the year.
GameSpy (Sep 07, 2004)
As much as I'm hesitant to make statements as conclusive as the following, it must be said: Burnout 3: Takedown is the new king of arcade racers. Think about everything that was brilliant about its predecessors -- the whimsical take on the laws of physics, the gorgeous graphics, and the completely insane emphasis on crashing -- and multiply it by ten thousand. You now have an inkling as to how much Burnout 3 has added to the series' already-solid formula.
Worth Playing (Sep 22, 2004)
I have always been a fan of the Burnout series, but now thanks to Burnout 3: Takedown, I am no longer a fan but now a full-fledged junkie! I would certainly consider Burnout 3 to be the "GoldenEye" of racing games!
If you're a casual racer, or hardcore, Burnout 3 is a racing game that no one should pass up. The sheer amount of time dedicated to this game, that the gamer will enjoy, is unbelievable. You'll never grow tired of the crashes, adrenaline-filled speed boosts, or insane traffic junctions. To close this review though, Burnout 3 is a game to remember, possibly the best arcade racer ever created.
VGcore (Oct 08, 2004)
Burnout 3: Takedown is by far the game that you will have the most fun with since Halo came out. Seriously, even if you are not into racing type games, this game is worth purchasing. The gameplay is filled with action, and the entire game has a real sense of speed. Both the racing and crashing aspect of the game are extremely fun, and if you get board of racing you can always try out some of the crash events. The graphics are some of the best yet on Xbox, too.
Let’s skip the preamble. Burnout 3 is easily one of the greatest arcade racing games ever made, seamlessly blending together all of the elements that have traditionally made the genre compelling, while managing to add an onslaught of unique nuances.
97 (Sep 18, 2004)
Burnout 3:Takedown is the videogame equivalent of Hurricane Ivan; everyone that has come into contact with it has either been stuck with an immense sense of awe, or had their life changed in a significant manner. While I have yet to meet someone who falls into the latter category, I have no doubt they are out there, as this is the type of game that could get someone fired from work, divorced, and deeply in debt simply by way of how addictive it is. Without a doubt the best racing game on the Xbox, EA would be wise to take Need for Speed: Underground 2 back to the drawing board if they hope to have it come anywhere close to the unadulterated quality that Criterion Games has put on display with their latest effort.
Overall EA and Criterion Games have provided Xbox owners all over the world with another must buy title. With amazingly addictive gameplay, fabulous graphics, astonishing speed and enjoyable online gameplay (when EA's servers are cooperating) one cannot help but not want to play this title all the time. This reviewer's extended gameplay only confirms this fact. Burnout 3: Takedown has definitely earned it's stripes and it easliy falls into the prestigeous category of the coveted Dagameboyz Players Choice Award.
Gamer 2.0 (Sep 14, 2004)
Burnout 3 is without a shadow of a doubt the best in the series and arguably the best arcade racer in history. Not many things hold Burnout 3 back, which by all means is a great thing for EA and Criterion, and they have certainly raised the bar, once again, for its followers to attempt to surpass. Despite the fact that sometimes the gameplay can become repetitive, every time you play it, it manages to keep you on your toes and can definitely be used as a wake-up call in the morning, lighting up your nerves as you simply try to survive out on the road. Burnout 3: Takedown is definitely recommended to any of those who either liked the series or is even the least bit interested.
TeamXbox (Sep 08, 2004)
Burnout 3 is one of those rare games that doesn’t have any chinks in its armor; amazing car physics? Got it. 480p support? Of course. Online play? Seven modes of it. Custom soundtracks? What would an upper echelon title be without it? Even EA haters will be anonymously purchasing Burnout 3: Takedown like a 16 year old sneaking on the family computer to peep the latest updates on; there's no denying its absolutely addictive offerings. Jump in your jalopy and speed down to your favorite game store for Burnout 3, but try and save the takedowns and the point of impacts for the game, will ya?
Gaming Target (Oct 07, 2004)
Aside from some minor annoyances (the announcer/DJ can get a tad tedious) Burnout 3: Takedown is an absolutely exceptional game and it’s quite frankly hard to imagine how the next one could be much better. This game is a must-buy for almost anyone, as it truly is hard to imagine anyone who would not like this game.
GamersMark (Sep 10, 2004)
Perhaps words cannot convey the excitement and energy produced when playing this game. Burnout 3 is the kind of game you sacrifice going to the bathroom for just to play one more race - just one more race. No, I mean it this time - just one more! With so many single player events, unlockable secrets, multiplayer modes and online gameplay, it’s nearly enough to make your head spin. And while the multiplayer experience might have fallen short of my expectations, the single player game is just too damn fun and exciting for any gamer to pass up. I simply cannot wait to see what Criterion does next with the Burnout franchise. If you are even remotely interested in racing games, exciting action games, or hell – just a fan of video games in general, at the very least give Burnout 3 a rent. You will be glad you did.
PGNx Media (Oct 01, 2004)
The Burnout series has finally received the recognition it deserves with the series' latest entry. A strong candidate for the coveted Game of the Year award, Burnout 3: Takedown is one of the best arcade racing games to come out in years.
Gamer Within (Sep 03, 2005)
You have to take the good with the bad though and, unfortunately, the game does include a number of small problems. I haven’t even begun to scratch on the surface of this title but frankly I don’t need to. All you need to know is that this title delivers one addictive experience and it is damn fun to play. That is what gaming is all about after all, so do yourself a favour and pick this fine game up.
VGPub (2004)
This game will easily keep you glued to your chair for hours on end. I found myself playing it for six hours straight one night and that was just doing the World Tour, not even online. With more than 150 courses, 60+ vehicles to unlock, different modes of play and tons of multiplayer madness this is going to keep you addicted for a long, long time. The incredible pick up and play style is a breath of fresh air among the sea of racers populating our world today. Burnout 3 is hands down the best Arcade racer of our time, go buy it and I?ll see you on Live.
Burnout 3 is an awesome arcade racer, and definitely ranks right up there as one of the best racing games available on the Xbox, arcade or otherwise. With its outstanding graphics, highly addictive adrenaline pumping gameplay and its terrific emphasis on carnage and destruction, this is not a game to be missed by anyone who has even just a passing interest in arcade racers. There is tons of gameplay in single player mode, made even better by the inclusion of great multiplayer options including Xbox Live. Burnout 3 is pure, unadulterated car-nage at its very best!
XBox Solution (XBS) (Mar 03, 2005)
This is one helluva good game! Bone jarring impacts, oncoming traffic flying through the air, takedowns, crash junctions, this game is just shy of being perfect. Some of the most awesome, if not the best, crashes you will ever find in a racing game. If you’re into racing games, get this one. It’s that good!
Game Over Online (Sep 28, 2004)
Regardless of the system or slight differences (soundtracks and online specifically), PS2 and Xbox owners both have outstanding racing awaiting them in Burnout 3: Takedown. The pictures accompanying this article just doesn’t do the game’s motion justice, and the sheer amount of racing options, tight controls, and satisfaction of crashes easily vaults this title into one of the best games of the year. If you own any of these consoles, go out, buy this game and get your crash on.
95 (Apr 01, 2005)
With 70 cars to choose from and online and multiplayer modes on top of single player race and crash modes, Burnout 3: Takedown has a lot to offer. I don't think I have ever played a faster racing game that had me not wanting to blink nor turn my XBox off. The game looks great, sounds great, and plays great and I can't recommend it enough. Burnout 3: Takedown is a must buy for every racing game fan and probably should be purchased or at least rented by every XBox owner on the planet, since it is that good.
Extreme Gamer (Nov 06, 2004)
Burnout 3 is the crowning jewel in the Burnout series, it's fun, fast and furious, and at the same time it is also original and addicting. I can easily recommend Burnout 3 to anyone. Even if you don't like racing games you will probably find something to like in this incredible game. Burnout 3 is by far the best arcade racer I have ever played, and probably the best racing game to date!
If you’re looking for a hardcore racing simulation, this isn’t it. There are no real cars, no customization, and driving skill is hardly a requirement. However, this is one of the best games I’ve ever played involving cars, asphalt and disregard for public safety. It is a must have for any gamer’s collection, anybody who ever had fun smashing hot wheels cars into each other, or anyone who likes destruction. Once again, Burnout 3 is not a racing game. If you’re looking for a racing sim, get something like Forza Motor Sport. But get this too. Whether you’re a racing fan or not, you gotta give this a try.
IGN (Sep 02, 2004)
You have never played a racer like Burnout 3: Takedown, and it would be an absolute crime if you went on living that way. Criterion's relentless ambitions for its arcade-inspired franchise, combined with Electronic Arts' steadfast production values, have paved the way for a true breakthrough in the amped-up racing genre. Burnout 3 offers up insane speed, unequaled crash sequences, and a truly new style of gameplay. It has reinvented the wheel, so to speak.
GameSpot (Sep 07, 2004)
Burnout 3: Takedown is an amazing achievement that anyone with a pulse will probably love. As driving games continue to flood the market, the genre seems to be splintering apart further and further. It used to be easy. Driving games were either attempting to simulate actual driving, or they were eschewing realism in favor of a more accessible, more instantly gratifying game. But now there are even more subsets to choose from. You've got the hardcore simulations that attempt to model cars and driving as accurately as possible.
Burnout 3: Takedown may be the finest example of arcade racing games out there right now. Criterion was smart to go with Electronic Arts (who later purchased them), even though some people would argue about the EA-izing of this game with such things as billboard ads for upcoming EA games. If you have time, like arcade racing and don't mind getting super addicted, Burnout 3: Takedown is the game for you.
94 (Sep 17, 2004)
I must say that EA have definitely done it again; with 173 tracks to race on, and a wide variety of different types of racing to choose from, Burnout 3 is more than worth the asking price. EA were also smart enough to add Xbox Live to this title, which was sadly missing from Need For Speed Underground. The fact that you can play online with other people is great, but there is a little bit of an issue on load times. It takes forever for some games to launch, and you may often find yourself becoming somewhat impatient. Once you get into a party game, though, you can converse over your headset to your opponents, and talk smack when you smash them into a wall at 150mph. Burnout 3 is a standout title for Microsoft's Xbox, and I hope that it finds a way into your collection so that you don't miss out on all the action.
This could very well be the racing game of the year. Burnout 2 was hot and on fire. Burnout 3 is an uncontrollable, unstoppable worldwide explosion. Burnout 3 is all about fast reflexes and making last second decisions. No matter the publisher, Criterion knows how to make a great racing game. This third iteration is the best one yet.
Next Level Gaming (Sep 13, 2004)
There seems to always be something magical that happens when Electronic Arts gets their hands on a license. And when it comes to supporting a developer in their efforts, I think EA Games has proven themselves once again. They gave Criterion the resources they needed to make Burnout 3: Takedown the best game in the series, and Criterion responded. Not only is this the best game in the series by leaps and bounds, but it's one of the top 4-5 racing games I think you'll find since the next generation of consoles hit. This is an arcade racer that all others will be judged against; even games like Outrun 2. Burnout 3 is flat out hot hot hot, and a must have for either console; Playstation 2 or Xbox. If you have both consoles, go with the Xbox version, it's just a hair better in a couple of minor areas. Any way you look at it, you absolutely have to have this game.
Wham! gaming (Sep 12, 2004)
Even without the car crashes, Burnout 3: Takedown would have been a superb arcade-style racing game. But the incredible vehicular carnage makes it a thing of profound destructive beauty.
Xboxdynasty (XD) (Apr 03, 2005)
GameZone (Sep 20, 2004)
Burnout 3 is one of the best arcade racers of all time. It’s instantly fun to play for just about anyone. The game’s speed progresses from Andy Dick insane to Charles Manson insane, always pushing the envelope and always keeping gamers glued to their TV, white knuckling their controllers. With a nearly flawless combination of graphics, gameplay, and gorgeous crashes, Burnout 3 is a must play for anyone with a need for speed.
A celebration of breakneck speeds and pile-ups, Burnout 3 achieves racing omnipotence, giving the industry's most pimped-out racers a serious run for their money.
Armchair Empire, The (Oct 06, 2004)
If you can put up with the loading screens galore and a bad soundtrack, Burnout 3: Takedown is an arcade racer that should please hardcore and casual race fans. If you’re a fan of the series, skip the rental and just buy it.
Atomic Gamer (Sep 13, 2004)
Criterion has done it again with Burnout 3, as this is about the best you can get when it comes to arcade racing. The graphics are outdone only by the satisfying gameplay, tight controls, and superb crashes. Add in the full complement of online play, and this one becomes a must-have even with the few minor issues I found. Don't hestitate to check this game out.
Xbox Gazette (Dec 10, 2004)
ActionTrip (Sep 15, 2004)
I think that we should make beginning drivers and repeat drunk drivers play this game. Hell, everyone that operates a car should have to play. While it does reward you for driving like a shithead, the first time you smash head on into an 18 wheeler and the battered remains of both cars cause a pile-up as well as giving you the picture that it is unlikely anyone would survive being in your shoes in the real world, you never want to fuck around behind the wheel again. I used to drive like a crazy freak, but after I took out a family of four in a minivan and my own car was sent into the third story of a nearby office building, I learned my lesson.
91 (Sep 13, 2004)
I would go on but as you'll probably realise by now, as each moment passes the need to boot up Burnout 3 is growing inside me once again. I'll make it very simple - if you have the means you need to buy this game now, whether you're online or not. Even if you hate racers, as long as you like good games you're bound to get something from the sheer manic exhilaration on offer here. The best racer ever? Mmm, that's a tough one. The most intense online racing experience? You'd better believe it.
TalkXbox (Sep 10, 2004)
It’s a very gutsy thing to take something that works pretty darn good and try to make it 120% better. Criterion has really upped the ante in the sequel department in my opinion. Every developer should work this hard to make each new game even greater than it’s predecessor. Burnout’s wide variety of game modes and the added bonus of Xbox Live support make it an incredibly well rounded package. Any would be racer should grab Burnout 3, whip up a custom soundtrack, pour your favorite caffeinated beverage and log on. Until next time, drive recklessly.
FOK!games (Sep 13, 2004)
Game Revolution (Sep 16, 2004)
Burnout 3 is anything but standard. With outstanding physics, an unmatched sense of speed and a wealth of game types, it easily blows the doors off the competition. And that's all the realism I need.
XBox Front (Jan 04, 2005)
91 (Oct 18, 2004)
Burnout 2 was in my opinion the best, most addictive arcade racer. When my ears caught the news that Criterion was busy working on the third installment, I started to wonder what could be improved. The main subject of criticism for me was the poor diversity in the tracks. I'm glad to say that this has changed drastically.
90 (Sep 18, 2004)
Edge (Sep 30, 2004)
Until you’ve blasted along the gently curved outline of its European motorways via a delicate balance of brake and steering input (the accelerator never anything other than flat to the pad), nitrous flowing, gaze fixed firmly on the distance through burning eyes you daren’t shut while carving your way through traffic and trading paint with the competition at 200mph or more, you won’t have delved deep into Takedown’s core. It still possesses the series’ trademark ability to deliver Tempest-like ‘in the zone’ moments of remarkable intensity unlike any of its contemporaries, but now comes with a confidently revised dynamic, marking this as Criterion Games’ finest hour. Crucially, it’s everything a racing videogame should be: a relentless, unwavering and phenomenal assault on the senses.
JeuxActu (Sep 10, 2004)
90 (UK) (Sep 14, 2004)
With a fully featured, properly implemented online mode, Burnout 3 had the right to be considered the arcade racing game to end them all. As it stands, it's the offline arcade racing game to end them all, with an online implementation that falls frustratingly short of expectations. The ingredients are all there for it to have been an unprecedented and sensational package, and in nearly all areas it really is. Most of it is, or will be forgivable, and will be fixed in the future - we all know that EA and Microsoft can't afford this kind of debacle to continue - but right now we're caught in this strange state of mind between celebrating what is undeniably a great game both offline and online. It's just the two areas should be part of the same game, not working against one another. Whatever. Justifiable niggles aside; it's one of this year's best games and an essential purchase, simple as that.
All in all Burnout 3 is about as perfect an arcade racer as you could ever hope to play. My message to you all is to go out and buy it now. Stop reading this drivel and head to your nearest store. This game has so much packed into it, it could make at least two games I'd be happy to spend my hard earned cash on. Crash Junction alone is worth the price and is guaranteed to provide you with hours of fun. Yes, it is now an EA game and it might stick in my throat, but they've done a blooming good job and earned every glittering 4.5 GIN gem.
Jive Magazine (Sep 07, 2004)
All in all, Burnout 3 is one of the best games that has been released all year. I’ve put a controller in the hands of some of the most skeptical, most novice non-gamers and they’ve loved it. If it can get them hooked, it will most certainly hook you.
90 (Oct 12, 2004)
Burnout 3 is a fantastic game. Its works because it appeals on many levels; have great multiplayer sessions or just play for hours on the superb single player mode. The game mechanics and graphics are amongst the best ever seen in the racing genre too. There are cracks though, such as the need to unlock all the Crash junctions, which can frustrate at times. The online mode is the biggest disappointment; a real missed opportunity. If Criterion had managed to successfully implement all of these modes, this game would have been one of the most complete gaming packages ever. As it stands, it's a game that nearly everyone will enjoy and it certainly is a true evolution of the racing genre.
Burnout 3 is the pinnacle of arcade racing and definitely one that will be tough to beat, the only game we can see "taking down" this is Burnout 4, although that will probably struggle too as this is dangerously close to perfection. There is so much here for your cash that you won't need another racer for quite a while. One of the biggest, fastest and destructive games around right now, racing game of 2004? We'll see.
Burnout 3: Takedown is one of the best titles of the year. It is lengthy, has Xbox live support, beautiful graphics and should keep gamers entertained for a long time to come.
Yahoo! Games (Sep 08, 2004)
There's just no two-way streets about it; Burnout 3: Takedown is an eye-opening, awe-inspiring psychotic arcade racer with addictive, high-energy and often hysterical gameplay. EA and Criterion really hit it out of the parking lot with this one... and into the crowded street, off a few passing cars and burning hulks, into a debris-strewn tunnel, then over a cliff.
TotalVideoGames (TVG) (Oct 09, 2004)
Every aspect comes together to create a gaming experience that is one of the most polished and perfected we’ve ever seen, regardless of genre – you simply need Burnout 3: Takedown now…
Bordersdown (Aug, 2004)
And what an experience it ultimately proves to be. Burnout 3 has turned an obsession with high-speed destruction into a masterpiece. No idle sequel, no mere upgrade, Takedown is nothing short of a declaration of war – a nosebleed racer that's faster, angrier and more explosive than practically any video game you’ve ever seen. Moreover, when the online dust clears, the scene as a whole should be refreshingly short of casualties.
HonestGamers (Oct 01, 2004)
Add online components to a single-player game that’s far above average and you have the kind of package that any serious racing fan simply must experience. At length. Burnout 3: Takedown is an easy game to play, and it’s even easier to recommend. Experience it as soon as possible. You’ll be glad you did.
Game Critics (Nov 03, 2004)
Unfortunately, Burnout 3: Takedown doesn't do everything right: the game's disaffected DJ aggravates (my advice: switch him off as soon as possible); the 170-plus single-player challenges feature far too many cause-as-much-damage-as-possible Crash Events for my taste; and the landscape of the game is still much too impersonal and sterile (making me long for the nuanced noir of Need For Speed: Underground). No matter. EA, by taking the series in a bigger and bolder direction, especially when considering the advent of "takedowns" and "crash time," has skillfully built upon what was a rock-solid foundation. As a result, Burnout 3: Takedown, whether it's making my heart pump or the hair stand up on the back of my neck, not only represents a dramatic step in the right direction for the series, but also for the racing game genre in general.
The Next Level (Oct 11, 2004)
Minor quibbles aside, Burnout 3 is unquestionably the breathtaking, definitive racing game of this generation. With its stunning display of 3D visuals, adrenaline-fuelled gameplay, this is one game you shouldn't pass up adding to your collection. Get ready for a ride on the wild side.
The physics are rock solid, and the only place that I'd like to see some change is in the cars (I'm a car dork, and real rides would be a nice addition). Still, I haven't played for about two hours, and the time away has been a worse withdrawal than any game in recent memory.
So when you sit back and look at the whole package and you realize that beating this game with all gold medals can take more then 40 hours, and you will actually want to get all the gold medals in this game, you can’t give this game any less then the best. Easily the most enjoyable racing game for any age of gamer, and the best crashes you will probably see this generation of machines (unless a sequel is to come out before the next generation). Top notch game, go pick it up if you have not already.
Burnout 3: Takedown is a sequel that will surely please fans of the series. The game contains everything that was great about the series and adds extra zest. It's fast, furious and chock full of exhilarating smashes that make for one very enjoyable game. Whilst the Xbox Live modes have got a lot of attention it's important to note that even if you only intend to play the single player game Burnout 3 is still highly recommended. There's more than enough here to last you a long time with a huge amount of events and vehicles to be unlocked. If you're at all interested in arcade racing that rewards your dangerous driving then Burnout 3 is a must.
For everyone that is a fan of the series or arcade racers in general, this is an absolutely essential purchase, and it’s so nice to see the arcade style racer is still very much alive and kicking, and with a certain SEGA arcade classic sequel coming to Xbox soon, we have much more of it to come. Go buy Burnout 3 now, you’ll love it.
This is a game just shy of absolute perfection. Hardly any other title on the current market can test a player's reaction time like this one. Not a single new addition disappoints and the tweaks to the old ones only improve upon the concepts. "Burnout 3" becomes an instant classic immediately after the disc drive shuts on your console.

After getting into the vehicular madness of the first two Burnout games, I've been looking forward to Burnout 3: Takedown for quite some time. Now it's arrived, and I can easily say that it is truly one of the best arcade-themed racers ever made. Everything about its craftsmanship is top of the line, right down to some of the most disastrous wrecks you could ever imagine. Factor in some imaginative modes, fantastic gameplay, online play (for up to 6 players), and killer presentation, and you have a game that simply demands a place in your collection. Highly recommended.

Press Start Online (Nov 16, 2006)
Burnout 3 is a game that thoroughly deserves to be played. It represents a great deal of effort put in by Criterion, for which they are to be congratulated. Most importantly, it offers a downright thrilling experience that, no matter how games grow in the future, will always tempt you back for one more race.

It's difficult to talk about Burnout 3 using words. My initial plan was to compose this review entirely out of emoticons, using a lot of :D and XD and ^______^ -- that would be the most efficient (also the most annoying) way to get across how much fun this game is to play. Even not playing Burnout 3 is more fun than playing most games; I'm sitting here trying to write while my coworker is alternating between Road Rage and Crash Mode, and let me tell you, you ought to consider the mere existence of this writeup as me doing you a favor. Such is the hypnotic power of Burnout 3.

Absolute Kaufempfehlung!
In conclusion, there is no reason for anyone not to buy Burnout 3 unless that person HATES racing games. This is one of the most unapologetically fun games out there, and if you aren''t burning already, you should be!

At the end of the day, Burnout 3 is a little too simplified for our tastes. The crash events seem either too easy or too arbitrary and just don’t favour emergent gameplay – it’s usually about finding the one correct path for maximum points and there’s little scope to think outside the box. Where’s the custom crash editor or open-ended crash challenges? Races can also be a huge amount of fun, but again, in a very mindless sort way. Dodging traffic at high-speed and laying the smackdown on opponents is a joy, but even the most ham-fisted handling of your vehicle will get you through a race provided you can avoid too many collisions. The (mostly) shitty music and annoying commentary (both muteable) don’t really help us feel good about this game either, which is a shame because it is so easy to enjoy, at least for some length of time. We just hope they take the training wheels off for the inevitable next game.

MS Xbox World (Oct 04, 2004)
Burnout 3 is super fast nitro fueled arcade action at warp speed, Criterion have done a great job taking the Burnout franchise to yet another level of Nitro fueled heart pounding action, it improves over its predecessors in most areas other than maybe the graphics department. There’s tons of fun to be had for racing fans and gamers alike with either a quick pick up and play blast or a sustained gaming session. Whether you like racing games or not you might just love Burnout 3: Takedown!

The music in the game is probably hit or miss for some people. It seems like a mixture of modern alternative with some punk mixed in. The delivery of the music while in a race is similar to that of a radio station with a DJ named Stryker. Stryker quickly makes you hate him with his stupid remarks and repeat comments. Fortunately enough EA did include the ability for custom soundtracks so put in the music that you want.

Overall, Burnout 3 provides exhilarating gameplay, a stylistic presentation and an online mode with potential (that has yet to deliver). Old fans of the series will find themselves satisfied with their purchase, and newcomers to the series may want to buy this simply for the offline crash-mode. All in all this is a solidly built offline title that stalls and dies once you try and take it online. The online gameplay is what really digs into that rating above. If you are not heading online to play it, consider this game near perfect. If things get fixed, I’ll be revving my engines for years to come, otherwise, I may be taking it back to the shop for a trade-in.
X-Power (Sep 23, 2004)
Gameplanet (Oct 05, 2004)
The types of race that can be entered into has expanded along with the main mode of the game, now dubbed Burnout 3 World Tour. This large single player mode has a mix of race, time attack, elimination, and Road Rage events. The races are generally between six racers, with the occasional one-on-one match as well. Most enjoyable are the Road Rage events. Rather than racing a certain number of laps, a timer counts down a certain number of minutes, in which time players must takedown a certain number of rivals. The pure focus on takedowns is a visceral experience, and some may find achieving a high score in these events more enjoyable than the rest of the game.

PlayDevil (Oct 29, 2004)
The new Burnout 3 : Takedown is surely one of the best racing (destruction) games @ the moment for X-box. Developer Criterion surely knew what they were doing when they worked on this game. The visuals are jawdropping, audio effects are great and if the music isn't your cup of tea you can always use your own custom audio tracks. The game also features an ONLINE-enabled mode so you can always compete with other people from around the world. When we compare version 3 to the previous game, Burnout 2 we can say that it has progressed a lot. Criterion added a lot of new features to the game since this will add the gameplay factor. Burnout 3 : Takedown features plenty of cars, modes, tracks and bonusses to unlock so it will definitely keep you busy for a long time. We were impressed by the quality of the game and if you loved the previous two games then Burnout 3 : Takedown is a must-have!
ToTheGame (Sep 12, 2004)
Withstanding some annoying AI issues, Burnout 3 is probably the most surprising title of the year. I figured there would be some car crashes and a little fun here and there, but I couldn’t have imagined this amount of pleasure coming from this title. The sheer enjoyment of planning the perfect takedown against your opponent (or better yet a friend) is priceless. Though just a tad bit repetitive at times during the World Tour, the online play keeps things fresh and fun for hours on end. I don’t see the fun stopping for quite some time. Pile on the cars and bring on the speed!
Gamezine (Sep 04, 2004)
Club Skill (Jan 10, 2005)
The Burnout World Tour mode as well as the option to tailor make your own races will mean that this will keep gamers occupied for a long time to come. Add in online play and this is everything gamers wanted for Burnout 3! They say all good things come in threes and the Burnout series is definitely no exception!
The Video Game Critic (Apr 15, 2005)
Overall, Burnout 3 is certainly a solid title, but in some ways it's too much of a good thing.
