It’s a little disheartening to see how much the Xbox version is missing when compared to its Xbox 360 doppelganger, but I suppose that’s what you should expect when you pay forty bucks less for a game. There just isn’t enough new stuff to warrant a purchase, unless you’ve missed out on the past few years of collegiate basketball. The gameplay is solid, and the feature list is acceptable if you don’t know what you’re missing, but those looking for a genre defining game will need to move along.

2K Sport created a very impressive game... on the Xbox 360. College Hoops 2K7 on the Xbox is more of a cut-and-paste job of 2K6, with virtually identical graphics and sound. A few nice control tweaks like the jump stop, doesn't add anything fresh however. While the presentation, Legacy and online play are all great, 2K7 feels more like a roster update. It's a great value if you don't have 2K6 and love college hoops. If you do own College Hoops, you may just want to update your rosters.

Here’s my guarantee to you. Rent this game first and play the hell out of it over the weekend. If you don’t find that it’s totally derivative of Hoops 2K6, then go back to the store and buy it. That way nobody gets hurt.

College Hoops 2K7 is a good game that does a nice job of capturing the look, feel, and sound of college basketball. There's no shortage of activities--be it controlling every aspect of a program in legacy mode or creating custom arena music--so you can lose yourself in the game for hours on end. However, it's tough to recommend to anyone who owns College Hoops 2K6, because the two games are virtually indistinguishable. If you're on the fence on whether to pick the game up for the Xbox or the Xbox 360, the game's much better on the 360, but it is $40 bucks more.

While a few of credits shy of an A, it's a good value at $20 even without the bonus content. Unless you've already got NBA 2K7 and an empty wallet, College Hoops NCAA 2K7 deserves a spot in your rotation. So go ahead - grab your books and head back to campus. You'll learn something, we guarantee.

But of course, no game's atmosphere is going to win any awards on its own -- as much fun as Crowd Simulator 2K7 sounds. In terms of gameplay you'll find much improved passing, as the lead pass button keeps your fast break motoring (something you won't find on next-gen). But there are too many blown buckets because the shot stick seems a bit inconsistent, especially right around the hoop where players should be more willing to roll in a layup or go for a dunk. And Isomotion dribbling needs a dust-up as it requires too much studying to get it right. Another issue: too many steals! But it's the obvious choice for hardcore college hoops fans, and not even the Florida Gators can beat the price.
