Relive the battle for Kuwait as the four brave Special Forces lads head back to the Gulf for another poke at Saddam

With an easy-to-master control method and intense, all-action gameplay, the original Conflict: Desert Storm was quite rightly a smash hit in 2002. Now SCi returns to the Gulf to once again put you in command of a crack, four-man squad, deep behind enemy lines. Bradly, Foley, Connors and Jones must once again use stealth, squad tactics and high-tech weapons and equipment to overcome a numerically superior Iraqi force.

Choosing to fight as either a U.S. Delta Force unit or a British SAS squad, you are plunged into the heat of the Middle Eastern sun or the chill of the desert night. Train yourself as a soldier and commander to the highest level over four intense Boot Camp stages then head into the field for 14 gruelling missions against a determined enemy. Your various hazardous objectives include rescue, extraction, sabotage and infiltration, and to aid you you'll have the latest in intel and advanced weaponry. Utilising your four-man squad effectively is essential to success and survival, but you can call on a friend to take control of two of your men for split-screen, co-operative operations. Good luck and remember, who dares, wins.

    • Return to the Gulf in the sequel to the hit squad combat game of 2002

    • Command a team of SAS or Delta Force experts comprising a soldier, a marksman, a heavy weapons operative and a covert, close-quarters specialist

    • Encounter enemy infantry, emplaced weaponry, armoured personnel carriers, tanks and helicopter gunships

    • Utilise pistols, grenade launchers, sniper rifles, anti-tank launchers and your trusty boot knife

    • Head into the fray with a friend for split-screen tactical warfare

Focusing on the events of the 1991 Gulf War, Conflict Desert Storm II: Back to Baghdad is the sequel to the highly acclaimed 3rd person squad combat game of 2002.

Conflict Desert Storm II: Back to Baghdad takes the level of gameplay and realism to new heights. The campaign begins with an urgent call to rescue a downed UH-60 Blackhawk’s crew in a heavily defended city, and ending with the allied endeavours to liberate Kuwait City.

The game captures the 3rd person squad-based action of the original, and applies layer upon layer of polish and advances. These include: enhanced graphics, deformable terrain, huge explosions and more fluid movement to the radically improved combat AI. The enemy is noticeably more intelligent, reacting to player’s tactics more realistically and the troops communicate with each other, taking cover and implementing counter defensive actions.

So get ready to take control of the elite SAS or Delta Force squads. Commandeer more vehicles, from jeeps through to armoured tanks, call in military air-strikes to clear heavy artillery and barricades and much more. Your squad is armed and ready for the hardest challenge of their careers.

Press Release:

Take-Two Interactive Software Ships Conflict: Desert Storm II - Back to Baghdad for the PlayStation®2, Xbox® and PC

NEW YORK - October 9, 2003 - Gotham Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today that Conflict: Desert Storm II - Back to Baghdad for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft, and PC has shipped to retail outlets in North America. The game follows up on the successful title Conflict: Desert Storm, which sold over 750,000 units in North America since its launch in September 2002. Conflict: Desert Storm II captures all of the intense, third-person squad-based action of the original and builds on it as players command U.S. Delta Forces or British SAS over the sands of Iraq to crush what remains of Saddam's evil regime.

Based on events of the 1991 Gulf War, Conflict: Desert Storm II challenges gamers with a multitude of intense, expansive missions that offer greater levels of atmosphere, realism and tactical tasks than its predecessor. In order to present the most realistic depiction of the intense ground war in Iraq, Gotham Games has brought back Cameron Spence as technical consultant, a former high-ranking British SAS officer who served in the 1991 Gulf War. Cameron's expertise was tapped even further, giving the developers further insight into desert warfare. An incredible number of authentic weapons, equipment and Gulf War-era vehicles are included to add an amazing level of realism and detail. Each highly intricate campaign will require players to coordinate the unique skills and weapons of each team member, to strategically combat a variety of scenarios and enemy forces. Additional advances include a new weapon-specific targeting system, dynamic lighting, environmental effects, and deformable terrain among other features.

Before Senate subcommittees and intelligence foibles, there were the harrowing feats of the first Gulf War.

As you step into the shoes of an elite Special Forces team, the last thing on your mind will be UN approval.

    • Play as the US Delta force or the British SAS
    • Earn your stripes in 10 intense missions using stealth tactics and heavy weaponry
    • Coordinate four elite specialists in squad-based gameplay that emphasizes teamwork and strategy
    • Clever enemy AI will react to your movements and work as a unit to attack and defend

Let's get one thing straight. Despite the "Back to Baghdad" name, your mission does not take place in present day, but instead begins during the height of the Gulf War in 1991 (David Kay can breath a sigh of relief). The relevance of the story and setting make it easy to dig right into your role as an elite military team.

You'll face urban firefights, desert raids and vehicular combat. Your authentic weaponry includes sniper rifles, machine guns and anti-tank rockets. But the key to success isn't firepower but the deliberate use of teamwork.

You are introduced to the complex control scheme in an extensive boot-camp tutorial. You'll be able to switch control of soldiers, issue commands, reload weapons, make evasive maneuvers and more. However, poorly implemented stealth tactics make direct combat a more viable option in most situations.

When not controlled by you, team members will do a surprising amount on their own. They will target and shoot enemies, take cover and communicate their status. Clever enemy teamwork makes for fun and challenging opponents.

The tiered missions take your team through an entire operation from start to finish. One early mission challenges you to search a helicopter crash site for survivors. You must infiltrate an enemy camp, travel by jeep to a walled city, destroy a placement of anti-aircraft guns and suppress enemy resistance before reaching the survivors.

Perhaps the most exciting feature is the ability to play cooperatively with as many as four players via a split screen. There's nothing quite like working as a unit with your buddies.

    Bottom Line

For military combat that excels with single or multiple players look no further. The controls are complex yet manageable and the graphics and sound are convincing.
