Interesting story for a party game. It goes a little something like this: sometime in the future cities have become intense battlegrounds for dangerous games played by people of all ages. What's the goal? To prove who's the best. Televised worldwide, the tournaments have become almost an obsession, and each zone of the world has sent the best of their best to bring glory and honor to their home. This game brings back memories of the old days, when you could walk into a room where people are playing a video game, and having no knowledge of the game itself, can immeadiatly play.
This is an excellent multiplayer title. Please keep an open mind about this “party” game. However, once you look past the seemingly innocent façade, you will find yourself tossed around the proverbial meat grinder. It almost feels like a futuristic American Gladiators, only hopped up on goofballs.
Is Fuzion Frenzy the best party game ever? Well, not exactly, but it comes quite close to that title with its large arsenal of cleverly designed games. In fact, the only real stumbling blocks on its way to being the Super Star is the lack of customization options. While you can play the mini-games separately or in a tournament, there’s no way to specify a tournament structure or in any way modify the list of possible games. Players who enjoy the more esoteric trappings of Mario Party‘s style will be equally disappointed, since there are absolutely no breaks between the mini-games and no three on one situations. These quibbles aside, Fuzion Frenzy manages to be an extremely fun party game for four, which is an impressive feat since neither Sega nor Sony seem to have been able to put together this quality of games together in their respective offerings.
Just the fact that this game has such variety in a limited genre is more than enough reason to give this game a spin. It’s interesting to see how they jazzed up party gaming. You will have such a rush beating your friends. Even when most party games suffer from a stingy one player mode, Fuzion Frenzy offers an entertaining game for those of us without any friends (such as myself).
Fuzion Frenzy, being the party game that it is, is intended for multiplayer gaming. While competing against three computer opponents is a viable option, it quickly wears thin due to the lack of a reward system, such as hidden characters or arenas. If you’re not one to invite your friends over for a little multiplayer action, you’re better off leaving Fuzion Frenzy on the shelf, perhaps renting it when the occasion arises.
While there’s not much ground-breaking to the game, it offers up exactly what
it advertises, a whole lot of multiplayer fun!
Still, with a bunch of friends, Fuzion is fun. Good but unspectacular graphics and above-average sounds almost forgive the simple-but-clunky controls. Fuzion Frenzy lacks the personality of the plumber or the bandicoot, but it’ll do.
When it comes to sitting shoulder to shoulder with some of your friends, Fuzion Frenzy is a passable alternative to having to teach a new player how all the buttons work in Halo. But since it doesn't have much long-term appeal, think of this as a brief mindless place to occasionally visit.
There are other, more-engaging multiplayer experiences to be had with the Xbox, but at this point, none have the pick-up-and-play appeal of Fuzion Frenzy.
Fuzion Frenzy is mindless fun. In a genre laden with excrement like Mario Party and Sonic Shuffle, I fancy FF to be tops of the minigame-fests – though that isn't saying much.
Fuzion Frenzy is alright, but not to the tune of $50. If you like this type of game and can get it cheap, though, you'll find it a fair way to pass the time with your buds.
But don't get me wrong, Fuzion Frenzy is definitely a great one night party pleaser. It does have good graphics as well as the ability to play your hard drive tunes while you play. This game doesn't make the $50 climb, but as a rental for a night with friends, Fuzion Frenzy rocks.
Remember pong? Well, that game's gameplay owns Fusion Frenzy on every level. I can understand that some people really like to play family/party games like Monopoly, Trivial pursuit, … but this game has some nasty features that just demoralize you from start to finish.
Fuzion Frenzy’s selection of 45 minigames sounds like it has potential for some fun party game play, but the lousy Tournament mode ended up slotting many of them into similar half-baked designs rather than having varied, unique gameplay challenges on offer. Since each minigame needs to fit a theme of the city zones you conquer in Tournament mode, concepts are reused and rules lightly changed to pass them off as new games, but this wouldn’t be a problem if the games were structurally sound. There are some highlights to be found like the jumping challenges and bomb battles, but many games are about passive competition where the action is straightforward and bland. Minigames often have one thing to do that remains too consistent during play, making the action wear thin quickly even though the games are often already short. Most games are just too slow, easy, and dull to enjoy or too chaotic and messy to really put in the effort to try and win.
Vorsicht Schrott.
Fuzion Frenzy's graphic quality isn't bad, but all the futuristic city locations look the same - pretty boring! This has got to be one of the most unappealing multi-player games I've ever come across. I find it astonishing that Microsoft felt this deserved a sequel!
