One of Rage's last games, and one of their best. If you like transformers or action games, this is for you! yprbest (128) 4.6 Stars4.6 Stars4.6 Stars4.6 Stars4.6 Stars

This game brings me back to the great mech shooting days of Battletech (Commodore 64) and the first Mechwarrior (on PC). Maybe that's too Old School for some, but if you want great arcade action with minimal thinking, then pick this game up. Because once you go Mech/Jet you never go back.

Worth Playing (Aug 28, 2002)
In conclusion, this game rocks, the controls are great, the game play is even better, and the graphics are of the standard eye candy that you've come to expect from the Xbox. However, I am kind of disappointed that there isn't a multiplayer mode, because I was looking forward to some hellish nights of duking it out with my pals in one massive robot battle royale. I guess you can’t have your cake and eat it too ... I'm going to chalk up this title as being worth playing.

Game Chronicles (Apr 12, 2003)
This isn’t to say that Gun Metal is a bad game; far from it in fact. I had a blast playing this title despite a total lack of motivating story or cutscenes. Anyone who loves a good mech or air combat game will also enjoy Gun Metal and the challenging gameplay it brings to the table.
IGN (Aug 08, 2002)
Gun Metal isn't strong in any particular area. However, the gameplay does grab the viewer, making it hard to put down. However, after I did put the game down, it was hard to pick it back up. While absorbed in the game, the flaws seemed to not even exist, but when I sat back and took a good look at the overall game, it was nothing to be ga-ga over. However, this game will satisfy you until the two big mech titles make their way to the Xbox later this year. If I were in your shoes, I'd rent before I bought. You might have second thoughts about the game as I did.

I’m pissed over this game. The Xbox is worth so much more. I’m getting sick and tired of developers not using the hardware. Oh yeah don’t think of this as Gun Metal. Think of it as Gunvalkrie 2. But worst than the first. If you really want to try this game RENT it. Other than that stay away.
Game Critics (Aug 28, 2002)
All told, Gun Metal is a very simple game with a few good ideas and a lot of wasted potential. While it does deliver action-flavored goodies on the most basic level, the concept just wasn't taken far enough and lacks both the sophistication and depth needed to turn it into a real contender. The developers were lucky that it was released so early in the Xbox's life cycle since the library is still relatively small. Gun Metal is the only game in town now and the transformation gimmick is enough to ensure a few hours of fun, but there's not enough substance here to save it from being eclipsed and forgotten.
GameSpot (Aug 30, 2002)
Overall, Gun Metal is a middle-of-the-road game that makes only a few mistakes, but doesn't exactly reach for the stars, either. It's precisely the sort of game that you'd want to rent for a few days and move on to something else.

Without a doubt, hardcore mech fanatics should steer clear of this title. In fact, it is nearly arguable that Gun Metal misses the mark completely as a mech game. Lack of strategy, complexity, longevity and intensive AI and multiplayer modes which are usually the foundation of true mech warfare are absent here. I would consider this more of an advanced 2nd or 3rd generation shoot’em up with extra eye candy.
