This is a fun and addicting game. If your a fan of the originals you should defiantly pick this one up or even if your a action/RPG fan or just looking for a great Xbox Live game go get this one.
Next Level Gaming (Apr 12, 2003)
Overall the game is great. You will be playing this one for a long time. I don't know how I'm going to balance this game out with Everquest. This is one addicting game. But I'll be honest, the ability to chat voice makes that a tough decision to make. One thing is for sure, if the Xbox is your sole system, then you've got to have this game. Period!

Buy it now! The only reason why it is not a good game to buy, is that you will become totally addicted to it and lose track to time. If you can look over the $8.95 price tag per month, after the first two free months, then by all means pick this game up. You will not regret it!

When I reviewed the Dreamcast game over two years ago, I honestly thought there'd be a little more competition than the PS2's limp EverQuest Online Adventures. PSO is great for now, but Sonic Team better have a thorough gutting of the game planned for the inevitable Episode III. A new engine, new security measures, and server-side character storage are all musts. PSO: Episode I & II for Xbox straddles two ages bravely; it was ahead of its time when it debuted, and it's been patched and stapled and taped together into something that's almost as compelling now as it was over two years ago. The seams are starting to show, but it's still a great game.

XBox Solution (XBS) (May 04, 2003)
There is tremendous replay value with this title. Trying to level yourself up will keep you going for weeks at a time. Offline play is just as challenging as online, with over 10 missions plus the ability to download more through Xbox Live. 4 player split screen will keep your buddies coming over for more and more.
IGN (Apr 16, 2003)
This is a direct port of the GameCube version...which is a direct port of the Dreamcast version with the all-new Episode II levels. The only real benefits come in the form of basic technical enhancements, broadband only gameplay, and, the best thing of all, voice chat. Voice communication is what makes PSO addicting all over again, despite its lack of enhancements.

GamePro (US) (Apr 25, 2003)
But even with those minor issues, fans of the series will enjoy every hacking, slashing minute of PSO, talking and laughing the entire time.
XBox-Zone (Jul 30, 2003)
GameSpot (Apr 17, 2003)
If you passed on the GameCube version of Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II because of the lack of domestic keyboard support, then the Xbox version might be a worthwhile proposition. But keep in mind that if you've already played the Dreamcast incarnations of the Phantasy Star Online series, you'll have less incentive to check out what Episode I & II has to offer, simply because much of the content is identical. Of course, if you've already played through the GameCube version, there really is no reason to play through the Xbox version. However, if you're completely new to the Phantasy Star Online experience and you're willing to pay the fees for online play, then you'll find an incredibly addictive game that will keep you glued to the TV for hours on end.
