Game Chronicles (Nov 27, 2004)
Second Sight tries to cover multiple genres and succeeds on nearly every front. You have excellent traditional combat mixed with a bit of stealth. The psychic element is a nice supplement to the weapons and presents some unique puzzle opportunities. Best of all, Second Sight tells an excellent story and does so with a presentation that borders on interactive cinema. This is a fantastic game at a great price and a must own for any action gamer.
XBox Front (Jan 16, 2005)
Next Level Gaming (Sep 20, 2004)
Free Radical Design has a pretty busy schedule ahead of it for the rest of the year, that is for sure. The developers of the highly acclaimed and successful TimeSplitters franchise has been pretty hard at work with two seperate games on their plate. One is a sequel to that very same popular series which will be hitting sometime in 2005. The other is a new title and idea which was picked up by Codemasters earlier this year. Codemasters has certainly done as great a job of picking up quality titles as they do developing them.
Game Over Online (Sep 21, 2004)
First things first: this is not a Psi-Ops ripoff. I've seen that opinion promulgated on several boards, and it's pretty much entirely false. Psi-Ops is a straight-up third-person shooter based around a combination of action and sadism; Second Sight is a third-person game that's made up of equal parts adventure, shooter, stealth, and psychological drama. About the only things that the two games have in common are a protagonist with psionic powers and the ability to throw random enemies off of very tall buildings.

All in all, I’ve found that the best game you can play is one that takes you by surprise. With little to no expectations, being impressed by the final product is one of the sweetest feelings you can have as a gamer. Gameplay will last you around a cool fifteen hours or so, not breaking any records in length, but you get the feeling that they kept the game fresh until the end.
Joypad (Sep, 2004)
Eurogamer.net (UK) (Aug 24, 2004)
Mind games. John Lennon once sung winsomely about them. Women are past masters at the them. Now suddenly it's the game du jour, with every sod under the sun is making videogames about scary men with telekinetic powers. What's that all about? Did Midway and Free Radical get mullered one night at GDC two years ago and have a pissing contest about who could make the best one? How else do you explain the almost simultaneous arrival of two games that are almost identical in concept? Co-incidence? They don't get much bigger than this - or perhaps a psychic designer simply scanned the minds of rival teams until finally discovering the best-sounding idea.
GameSpy (Sep 21, 2004)
When the standard GoldenEye clone wasn't shooter enough for most players, along came Free Radical Design with its genre-busting TimeSplitters. And just as games using mental powers begin to proliferate, here comes the studio once again. Second Sight packs a huge core of ideas into what could have been a standard shooter. We've got powerful psionics, extensive gun combat, and a great story. The trade-off is a lack of polish, but if you like games rough around the edges, read on.
FOK!games (Aug 01, 2004)
IGN (Sep 16, 2004)
In the beginning… While playing Second Sight, the latest entry in the burgeoning trend of mind games, I noticed one thing and pondered another. First, I noticed that I hadn't been so enthralled by the narrative of a supposed "action" game in months. And second, I wondered what took developers so long to incorporate psychic abilities into video games? To be fair, certain games have done it before, but never like this.
Second Sight is a nice diversion for a rainy weekend. The story will keep you entertained and the psychological effects will keep you thinking of the game for weeks. Unfortunately, there's no real reason to play through the game twice, but the length of the game warrants a good time the first time through.
Kombo.com (Sep 24, 2004)
In the end Second Sight offers a refreshing difference from other games that are of its same genre. Loaded with action, and stealth, the game appeals to a wide variety of audiences. The storyline progresses in an entertaining manner, to keep the gamer glued to the TV for hours. Despite the short length of the game, which is on average 15 hours, Second Sight packs a lot during that time. Second Sight is a game worth its weight in gold, but if you aren’t interested in the type, then at least give it a rent to see what I am raving about.
GameSpot (Sep 20, 2004)
Second Sight marks the second major action-game-with-psychic-powers release this year; the first was Midway's Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. Just because it's not first out of the gate doesn't make Second Sight an also-ran, though. Developer Free Radical has imbued the game with an interesting storyline and satisfying gameplay that blend to create a rewarding experience with its own unique identity. Despite a few rough patches, Second Sight proves to be an entertaining ride while it lasts.
X-Power (Aug 30, 2004)
Extreme Gamer (Oct 18, 2004)
Second Sight's visuals are a little dull, and the game isn't as violent or flashy as its rival Psi-Ops. But where Second Sight does excel is in the balancing of the story with some innovative gameplay elements. Although Second Sight has some flaws it will keep you gaming until the end.
Diehard GameFan (Sep 29, 2004)
One of the better action games of 2004, Second Sight is worth picking up and playing through to see what all you can do in the game, and to sit through the well thought out story it has. It”s ten hours long, so it may be better for you to rent it instead of purchasing it, but it’s still a game I heartily recommend as even non 3d action adventure fans will be able to enjoy this.
Games TM (Sep 09, 2004)
To be fair, Second Sight is at least intriguing and relatively enjoyable and will keep you wanting to see it through to its conclusion. Ultimately, though, there's no ignoring the fact that Psi-Ops - a game that, subtlety and stealth aside, features everything Second Sight offers, only better - has beaten this to the psychic punch, leaving it feeling rather inadequate.
